FIFTH SUNDAY AFTER THE RESURRECTION Ephesians 2:1-10 Generosity of God s Plan Brothers and Sisters: You were dead through the trespasses and sin in which you once lived, following the course of this world, following the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work among those who are disobedient. All of us once lived among them in the passions of our flesh, following the desires of flesh and senses, and we were by nature children of wrath, like everyone else. But God, who is rich in mercy, out of the great love with which he loved us even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ by grace you have been saved and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the ages to come he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God not the result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life. Praise be to God always! John 21:15-19 Jesus and Peter. The Apostle writes: When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, Simon son of John, do you love me more than these? He said to him, Yes, Lord; you know that I love you. Jesus said to him, Feed my lambs. A second time he said to him, Simon son of John, do you love me? He said to him, Yes, Lord; you know that I love you. Jesus said to him, Tend my sheep. He said to him the third time, Simon son of John, do you love me? Peter felt hurt because he said to him the third time, Do you love me? And he said to him, Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you. Jesus said to him, Feed my sheep. Very truly, I tell you, when you were younger, you used to fasten your own belt and to go wherever you wished. But when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will fasten a belt around you and take you where you do not wish to go. (He said this to indicate the kind of death by which he would glorify God.) After this he said to him, Follow me. This is the truth. Peace be with you. CONFIRMATION Saturday May 19, 2018 at Please come join us to celebrate this special day. Families & friends are welcome. Our Lady of Lebanon is a marian shrine and a pilgrimage site, honoring the patron saint of of Lebanon. The Lebanese Christians have a special devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Maronite Patriarch of Antioch named her the Queen of Lebanon in 1908 upon completion of the shrine. Overlooking the bay of Jounieh, the shrine has become a major tourist attraction where tourists take the gondola lift, the Téléphérique, from the city of Jounieh to Harissa. PLEASE VISIT OUR GIFT SHOP We have many religious articles including statues, rosaries, jewelry, etc. in our gift cabinets. See Fr. Bassam or any of the ushers to help you. If you need a specific gift and it is not available, please let Fr. Bassam know so we can get it for you if possible. Thank you for your support. This is the letter that was sent to all parishioners this week. If you are not registered, you may not have received it. Dear Parishioners, Saint Jude Maronite Catholic Church is a strong, vibrant parish that ministers to the broad Catholic and Christian community in Orlando and beyond. Our Maronite traditions speak to and meet the needs of so many who come to us for healing, prayer, spiritual growth and connection to a worshiping community rooted in the person of Jesus Christ. In my 9 years with you, we have together built up this parish, and I appreciate all that you have done to bring us to this point in our history. This summer will bring a transition to our parish. The new pastor Fr. Elie Abi Chedid will be with you to continue this good work that we have begun. You have always met the challenges of this parish when we have had them, and now I ask that you and your fellow parishioners come together to meet this last challenge while I am with you. We have an outstanding mortgage of $100,000. Our goal is to fulfill the obligation and pay off that mortgage by August 1, 2018. Surely, I would like to celebrate with you one more time with a mortgage burning party in late summer. Leading this effort with me are some of our fellow parishioners, Amine Harb, Dr. Fouad Hajjar, Dr. Elias Maroun, Dr. Samuel Wakim, Khalil Abou Jaoude and Gail Bell along with our Parish Council and leadership. Over the next few weeks we will be asking you to consider a tax deductible charitable gift to the parish to meet this critical need. Please be receptive to our phone call or visit, and please be generous to fulfill this milestone for our parish. My time at Saint Jude Parish has been joyous and fulfilling. You and your family and friends have been a significant part of that experience. I will always remember you in my prayers and bring all that I have learned from you to my future ministry. Be assured of my continued prayers and thank you for your generosity. Sincerely yours in Christ, Rev. Father Bassam M. Saade, D.Min. Pastor
