St. Martin of Tours Parish Mission Statement We are a community of faith, joined through Baptism, to bear witness to Jesus Christ, to celebrate God s presence, and to work together to serve the needs of the parish family and others, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Dear St. Martin of Tours Parishioners, I present to you our 2017-2018 Parish Directory. At this writing, I have been parochial administrator at St. Martin of Tours for three months. My assessment of this parish is as follows. First, this parish has one of the richest and most vibrant histories of any parish in the Archdiocese of St. Louis. Second, St. Martin of Tours Parish is the cornerstone of Catholicism in South County. Third, we have some of the most loyal parishioners in all of St. Louis. I have only one goal at this parish: Your salvation. I have three means to that goal: First, to be kind and compassionate to each one of you. Second, I would like Perpetual Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament here at the parish. Third, I desire that all who once called Saint Martin of Tours their home will return to our fold. In Christ, may God the Father bless you. 1

Funeral Choir Parishioners who enjoy singing and who are available in the morning during the week gather at Funeral Masses to support the participants with the responses and singing. Funeral Luncheon The Funeral Luncheon Committee prepares and serves meals in Runge Hall after Funerals. They provide care and support at a difficult time for those in our parish. It allows those who are grieving to focus on their families and friends while the Funeral Luncheon Committee does the preparation and servicing of the post-funeral meal. Please contact the Funeral Luncheon coordinator if you have an interest in joining the group, even if you cannot come to the luncheons and just want to contribute a dish. Gift Bearers This ministry, of loving service, is very important. Participation of the assembly is being expressed by its offering of the bread and wine, together with other gifts, for the needs of the church and the poor. Homebound Ministry A group of Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion who bring the Body of Christ to our homebound parishioners. Parish Council The Parish Council is a representative group of parishioners who prayerfully discuss the needs of the parish community. Meetings are held the second Wednesday of the month. The Parish Council serves as a catalyst by which the people of St. Martin of Tours share in their common baptismal call to proclaim the Gospel, celebrate the liturgy, pray, serve the people of God, and build community. Parish Picnic St. Martin of Tours holds an Annual Parish Picnic. It is a fun event for the whole family. The Picnic Committee organizes and plans the details of the picnic. Watch the bulletin for meeting dates. Contact the rectory if you would like to be part of the Picnic Committee. Parish School of Religion Our PSR classes are held on Wednesday evenings from 6:45 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at St. Andrew Church, 309 Hoffmeister Ave., Lemay, MO 63125. Our PSR is designed for children from K-8th Grade who attend public schools. Our PSR systematically and intentionally, within an age appropriate and family sensitive curriculum, supports the right of every Baptized person to a religious education. Our PSR has a goal, a fully expressed Sacramental life, a satisfying prayer life, and a life integrated with the moral teachings and doctrines of the Catholic Church. Prayer Chain The Prayer Chain is made up of parishioners who take time each day to pray for specific intentions as called in by parishioners. Our members pray individually as their time allots, and prayer intentions do not have to be specific to our parish community. Contact the coordinators for more information. Quilters The quilters are a group of women who meet to quilt. Everyone is welcome. They are always happy to teach beginners. They meet every Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. in the Lower Level. 9

RCIA The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults helps non-baptized persons, those baptized in another Christian Tradition, or those baptized as Catholic, but not raised as Catholic. The process helps them better understand the Catholic Faith in preparing to enter the Catholic Church. It is a time to listen to God, to each other, and to the wisdom of the tradition of the Catholic Church. Sessions are scheduled yearround. Please call the rectory for more information. RCIC The Rite of Christian Initiation of Children is the process of preparing children and teens for receiving the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, Reconciliation and Eucharist. The kind and length of this process depends upon the age and needs of the child and family. For more information, please contact the rectory. Respect Life The members of the Respect Life Group commit themselves to prayer, education, and action in defense of life. It is their mission to foster in our parish community an awareness of the dignity and sanctity of all human life, from conception to natural death. Members are dedicated to observing and promoting the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church on all life issues, including abortion, euthanasia, infanticide, assisted suicide, and stem cell research. I set before you life and death, blessing and cursing, therefore, CHOOSE LIFE, that you and your seed may live. Deuteronomy 30:19 Retreats Annual retreats are planned for both men and women of the parish. Contact the coordinators and watch the bulletin for information regarding dates. Sacramental Preparation Children are required to be enrolled in a formal religious education or home school program prior to First Reconciliation and Eucharist. Sacramental Preparation programs are established following Archdiocese guidelines for Baptism, Confirmation, Reconciliation and Eucharist. Contact the rectory for more information. 10

Safe Environment Program It is the policy of the Archdiocese of St. Louis that all clergy, employees, and volunteers whose service in the Church brings them into contact with children and/or vulnerable adults must have a regular background check conducted through the Missouri Family Care State Registry and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for those who have lived outside of the state of Missouri. They must also attend a Protecting God s Children Workshop and sign a Code of Ethical Conduct. The Church relies on the help of God s grace to remain firm in Her resolve and effective in Her action to protect children and any who are vulnerable. Let us pray that we may always express the love of Christ for children and the most vulnerable in our midst. St. Vincent DePaul Society This group attempts to carry out Our Lord s mandate: to help those in need. They organize what help can be given to those within our parish boundaries. Monthly meetings are held, discussing assistance to be given, with all matters remaining confidential. Servers Altar servers assist the priest and deacon during liturgical celebrations. Stewardship The stewardship committee uses the resource of the Archdiocesan Office of Stewardship to educate on the responsibilities of good stewards and to foster a spirit of stewarding at St. Martin of Tours. Ushers/Greeters We are a ministry of hospitality. Our basic duty is to serve and welcome the people coming and going from the church premises. We partake in the Mass and have the duty to take up a collection of the offering. Vacation Bible School Vacation Bible School is offered for one week, Monday thru Friday-9:00 a.m. till noon, during the summer at St. Andrew Church, 309 Hoffmeister Ave., Lemay, MO 63125. Five days of prayer, songs, games and fun activities for children, age three through grade eight. Welcoming Committee This committee contacts new parishioners once they have registered in the parish. The intent is to welcome the individuals and distribute information about the parish organizations and events. 11
