Visits at the Dedication of Temples The Dedication of the Kirtland Temple The Kirtland Temple was significant in the history of the Church and of the world. There the Lord revealed to the Prophet Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery the priesthood keys for the salvation of the entire human family keys that would make available saving ordinances to the living and the dead. Marvellous spiritual manifestations attended the dedication of the Kirtland Temple. Some who were present saw the Apostles Peter and John, and many saw other angels. The Prophet Joseph Smith recorded that during a meeting in the temple on the evening of the dedication, Brother George A. Smith arose and began to prophesy, when a noise was heard like the sound of a rushing mighty wind, which filled the Temple, and all the congregation simultaneously arose, being moved upon by an invisible power; many began to speak in tongues and prophesy; others saw glorious visions; and I beheld the Temple was filled with angels, which fact I declared to the congregation. The people of the neighborhood came running together (hearing an unusual sound within, and seeing a bright light like a pillar of fire resting upon the Temple), and were astonished at what was taking place (History of the Church, 2:428) From Seminary LDS.org Heber C. Kimball stated: "During the ceremonies of the dedication, an angel appeared and sat near President Joseph Smith, Sen., and Frederick G. Williams, so that they had a fair view of his person. He was a very tall personage, black eyes, white hair, and stoop shouldered; his garment was whole, extending to near his ankles; on his feet he had sandals. He was sent as a messenger to accept of the dedication...while these things were being attended to the beloved disciple John was seen in our midst by the Prophet Joseph, Oliver Cowdery and others." Journal of Discourses, 26 vols. (London: Latter-day Saints' Book Depot, 1854-1886), 9: 376. George A. Smith stated: "There were great manifestations of power, such as speaking in tongues, seeing visions, administration of angels. Many individuals bore testimony that they saw angels, and David Whitmer bore testimony that he saw three angels passing up the south aisle, and there came a shock on the house like the sound of a mighty rushing wind, and almost every man in the house arose, and hundreds of them were speaking in tongues, prophesying or declaring visions, almost with one voice." Ibid, 11:10 Truman Angell autobiography records seeing two angels with Brigham Young Before closing this writing I desire to mention an important incident in connection with the Kirtland Temple. After the building was dedicated, a few of us, some six or eight, having Patriarch Joseph Smith, Sr., in company, went morning and evening to pray, entering at the west end of the [Kirtland] Temple and going clear through to the east stand. This we enjoyed very much. The stand being enclosed by curtains or veils made it quite by itself and a good place to pray with none to molest. One evening, having been in the country, I was too late to 1

enter with the brethren. The company would not emerge till quite dark. I had tried the door and knew they were at prayer. I felt out of place and went to my house, but soon came out and met Brother Brigham Young, inquiring for Oliver Cowdery. I said I had not seen him. We walked out towards the [Kirtland] Temple, approaching the building on the side which was used for the Prophet Joseph and his counselors, a portion of the attic on the east being especially appropriated to their use. In the said attic, and right over the stand where the brethren were praying in the hall below were two windows in the gable end to help give light to his compartment or room, the windows being 12 or 14 feet apart, and unusually high from the floor; being nearly 4 feet to the bottom of the lower sash. When about ten rods distant we looked up and saw two personages; before each window, leaving and approaching each other like guards would do. This continued until quite dark. As they were walking back and forth, one turned his face to me for an instant; but while they walked to and fro, only a side view was visible. I have no doubt that the house was guarded, as I have had no other way to account for it. I insert this note thinking it may do someone good as it has me. With great fatigue, I have arrived at the present date, March 20, 1884. -- Truman Osborn Angell, Sr., T. J. Angell: Scribe Truman Angell also stated: "When about midway during the prayer, there was a glorious sensation passed through the house [Kirtland Temple]; and we, having our heads bowed in prayer, felt a sensation very elevating to the soul. At the close of the prayer, F. [Frederick] G. Williams being in the upper east stand- Joseph being in the speaking stand next below--rose and testified that midway during the prayer an holy angel came and seated himself in the stand. When the afternoon meeting assembled, Joseph, feeling very much elated, arose the first thing and said the personage who had appeared in the morning was the Angel Peter come to accept the dedication." Truman Angell, Autobiography, Our Pioneer Heritage, Writings of Early Latter-day Saints, 198 Harrison Burgess wrote: The Lord blessed His people abundantly in that Temple with the Spirit of prophecy, the ministering of angels, visions etc. I will here relate a vision which was shown me. It was near the close of the endowments I was in a meeting for instruction in the upper part of the temple, with about a hundred of the high priests, seventies, and elders. The Saints felt to shout, "Hosanna," and the spirit of God rested upon me in mighty power and I beheld the room lighted up, with a peculiar light such as I had never seen before; [soft and clear and] the room looked to me as though it had neither roof nor floor to the building and I beheld Joseph [Smith the Prophet] and Hyrum Smith [the Prophet's brother], and Roger Orton enveloped in the light. Joseph exclaimed aloud, "I behold the Savior, the Son of God." Hyrum exclaimed "I behold the angels of heaven." Brother Orton exclaimed, "I behold the chariots of Israel." All who were in the room felt the power of God to that degree that many prophesied, and the power of God was made manifest, [to all these in the assembly] the remembrance of which I shall never forget while I live upon the earth. Harrison Burgess, "Sketch of a Well-Spent Life," in "Labors in the Vineyard," in Classic Experiences and Adventures (Salt Lake City, Utah: Bookcraft, 1969) School of the Prophets: The temple was being rushed to completion. The school of the prophets was removed to the temple in the first part of January. The west room in the upper part of the temple was consecrated by prayer for the schoo1 of the prophets on January 4th, 1836. On January 21, 1836, the First Presidency met in this dedicated room of the temple to ordain Father Smith as the Patriarch and to instigate the ordinance of the Washing of The 2

Feet, to anoint each other and receive a blessing under the hand of Father Smith. They each received a blessing which included many prophecies. Joseph recorded also the following visions and manifestations. "The Heavens were opened upon us, and I beheld the Celestial Kingdom of God, and the glory thereof, whether in the body or out I cannot tell. I saw the transcendent beauty of the gate through which the heirs of the Kingdom will enter which was like unto circling flames of fire also blazing throne of God whereon was seated the Father and the Son. I saw the beautiful streets of the kingdom, which had the appearance of being paved with gold. I saw fathers Adam and Abraham." He received the following revelation also. "All who have died without a knowledge of this gospel who would have received it if they had been permitted to tarry, shall be heirs of the Celestial Kingdom of God...For I the Lord will judge all men according to their works according to the desire of their hearts." Joseph went on to state, "Many of the others saw glorious visions also angels administered unto them as well as to myself, and the power of the Highest rested upon us and the Temple was filled with the glory of God and we shouted Hosanna to God and the Lamb. Some of them saw the face of the Savior and the spirit of prophecy and revelation was poured out in mighty power. This all lasted until nearly 2:00 in the morning. The next day instead of studying they spent the time rehearsing to each other the glorious scenes that occurred there the night before, while attending to the ordinance of holy anointing That evening the twelve apostles met in the upper room to receive their anointing along with the seven presidents of Seventies and the High Council of Zion and Kirtland. Joseph said..."i laid my hands upon them and pronounced many great and glorious things upon their heads, the heavens were opened, and angels administered unto us...the Heavens were opened to Elder Sylvester Smith, and he leaped up exclaiming "The horsemen of Israel and the Chariots thereof.."... The gift of tongues fell upon us in mighty power. Angels mingled their voices with ours, while their presence was in our midst, and unceasing praises swelled our bosoms for the space of half an hour. We accordingly closed our interview and returned home about two o clock in the morning, and the spirit and visions of God attended me through the night "(DHC V.II p 379-382) On January 28, a week later, the presidency met with the High Priests and Elders Quorum to consecrate and anoint them. The Seventy and the Twelve Apostles were meeting in another room adjoining. He called on the Seven Presidents and the Twelve to call upon God with uplifted hands, to seal the blessing which had been promised them by the holy anointing. Of this meeting Joseph said, "President Sylvester Smith saw a pillar of fire rest down on the heads of the quorum (12), as we stood in the midst of the twelve... Elder Roger Orton saw a mighty angel riding upon a horse of fire, with flaming sword in hand, followed by five others, encircle the house, and protecting the Saints, even the Lords anointed, from the power of Satan and a host of Evil Spirits which were striving to disturb the Saints. President William Smith, one of the Twelve, saw the heavens opened, and the Lord protecting the Lords anointed. President Zebedee Coltrin, one of the seven presidents of the seventy, saw the Savior extended before him, as upon the cross, and a little after, crowned with glory upon his head above the brightness of the sun. (DHC VII P. 386) Zebedee Coltrin related a vision in the temple in Kirtland after the School of the Prophets was organized. He said while sitting in council, a personage passed through the room dressed in usual clothing. Joseph said that was the Savior. Soon another personage passed through 3

the house clothed in fire His features and feet were visible, but his body was wrapped in flames. Joseph said that was God the Father, and he said he was with Joseph and another man in the woods praying and the heavens were opened and they saw a man sitting upon a throne whose hair was white as wool and a woman sitting beside him, both dressed in white. Joseph said it was Adam and Eve (The Journal of Wilford Woodruff, October 11, 1883 ) The dedication was set for Sunday March 27, 1836. After everything was cleaned up and ready. The doors promptly opened at 8:00 AM. Nearly one thousand people had gathered there waiting to get in. Some had to be turned away. They sang some songs written by some of the brethren; Sidney Rigdon offered a prayer and then spoke for two and one half hours. They then sustained the general authorities. The prophet Joseph then arose and offered the dedicatory prayer. Among other things he said: "Thou hast commanded thy servants to build a house to thy name in this place. And now thou beholdest O Lord, that thy servants have done according to thy commandment...thou knowest that we have done this work through great tribulation; and out of poverty we have given our substance to build a house to thy name, that the Son of Man might have a place to manifest himself...and now Holy Father, we ask thee to assist us, thy people with thy grace, in calling our solemn assembly, that it may be done to thy honor and to thy divine acceptance...and in a manner that we may be found worthy, in thy sight, to secure a fulfillment of the promises which thou hast made unto us, thy people, in the revelation given unto us that thy glory may rest down upon the people, and upon thy house, which we now dedicate to thee..and we ask thee, Holy Father, that thy servants may go forth from this house armed with power which thou hast ordained to be poured out upon those who shall reverence thee in thy house... Let it be fulfilled upon them, as upon those on the day of Pentecost; let the gift of tongues be poured out upon thy people, even cloven tongues of fire, and the interpretation thereof. And let the house be filled, as with a rushing mighty wind with thy glory...that all the ends of the earth may know that we, thy servants, have heard thy voice, and that thou hast sent us." (DC 109: 2, 3,10-12,22,36,37) "President Frederick G. Williams arose and testified that while President Rigdon was making his first prayer, an angel entered the window and took his seat between Father Smith and himself and remained there during the prayer... President David Whitmer also saw angels in the house. President Hyrum Smith made some appropriate remarks congratulating those who had endured so many toils and privations to build the house. President Oliver Cowdery testified of the truth of the Book of Mormon, and of the work of the Lord in these last days. The Lords Supper was then administered; President Don Carlos Smith blessed the bread and the wine, which was distributed by several Elders to the church; after which I bore record of my mission, and of the ministration of angels...president Brigham Young gave a short address in tongues, David Patten interpreted, and gave a short exhortation in tongues himself...the assembly dispersed a little past four o'clock " (DHC Vol. II P 427-428) Heber C. Kimball says of this meeting "During the ceremonies of dedication, an angel appeared and sat near President Joseph Smith, Sr., and Frederick G. Williams, so that they had fair view of his person. He was a very tall personage, black eyes, white hair, and stooped shouldered; his garment was whole, extending near his ankles; on his feet he had sandals. He was sent as a messenger to accept the dedication " (Life of Heber C. Kimball P 91) Brigham reports that "Several brethren, upon invitation, bore testimony of the truth and 4

stated they had seen angels present in the Temple." (S. Dilworth Young, Here is Brigham, p. 149) Presindia Kimball was privileged to see Angels on top of the Kirtland Temple: She records: We enjoyed many very great blessings, and often saw the power of God manifested. On one occasion I saw angels clothed in white walking upon the temple. It was during one of our monthly fast meetings, when the saints were in the temple worshipping. A little girl came to my door and in wonder called me out, exclaiming, 'The meeting is on the top of the meeting house!' I went to the door, and there I saw on the temple angels clothed in white covering the roof from end to end. They seemed to be walking to and fro; they appeared and disappeared. The third time they appeared and disappeared before I realized that they were not mortal men. Each time in a moment they vanished, and their reappearance was the same. This was in broad daylight, in the afternoon. A number of the children in Kirtland saw the same. When the brethren and sisters came home in the evening, they told of the power of God manifested in the Temple that day, and of the prophesying and speaking in tongues. It was also said, in the interpretation of tongues, ' That the angels were resting down upon the house.' At another fast meeting I was in the Temple with my sister Zina. The whole of the congregation were on their knees, praying vocally, for such was the custom at the close of these meetings when Father Smith presided ; yet there was no confusion; the voices of the congregation mingled softly together. While the congregation was thus praying, we both heard, from one corner of the room above our heads, a choir of angels singing most beautifully. They were invisible to us, but myriads of angelic voices seemed to be united in singing some song of Zion, and their sweet harmony filled the temple of God. Nauvoo Temple John Pulispher recorded in his diary: The Saints gathered into Nauvoo, labored and toiled to finish the temple. Our enemies at the same time were planning to drive us from our city and from the United States. In the fall the temple was dedicated to the Lord, thus far completed. Prayer pronounced by President B. Young. The building was finished with the exception of a little inside work which was done during the winter. Most of the Saints, men and women, had the privilege of receiving their endowments, learning the order of the Priesthood, the fall and redemption of man, in the temple in the city of Joseph. Nauvoo was called by that name after the death of Joseph. I think it was in the month of January that I and my brother Charles received our endowments. The building was filled up in the nicest style. It was built according to the pattern that the Lord gave to Joseph. It was accepted of the Lord and His holy angels have ministered unto many therein and now because of persecution we must leave it and in leaving it we leave a monument of our industry which was reared in our poverty. It was the finest building in all the western country. Samuel Whitney Richards wrote in his diary: Sunday March 22 nd 1846: I went to my Seventies quorum meeting in the Nauvoo Temple. The whole quorum being present consisting of fifteen members...dressing ourselves in the Order of the Priesthood we called upon the Lord. His Spirit attended us and the visions were opened to our view...there 5

appeared a great company as it were of saints coming from the West...and I beheld other things which were glorious while the power of God rested down upon me. Others beheld Angels and the Glory of God...our joy increased by the Gift of Tongues and Prophecy by which great things were spoken and made known to us. The Dedication of the Salt Lake Temple LaRene Grant The Power of God was with us Ensign March 1993 (Extracts only) At the time of the dedication of the Salt Lake Temple, the Lord bestowed warm blessings and spiritual manifestations upon the Saints, who had worked and sacrificed for forty years to build the House of the Lord. On the morning of 6 April 1893 Wilford Woodruff entered the Salt Lake Temple through the southwest doors and proceeded to the fourth floor. At 10:00 a.m., with twenty-five hundred people in attendance, the first of a series of forty-one dedication services began. The dedication was the final step in a forty-year saga of sacrifice and labor surrounding the construction of the Salt Lake Temple. The Heavenly Host were in attendance at the [first] dedication [service], President Woodruff told the congregation in a subsequent dedicatory service. If the eyes of the congregation could be opened they would [have] seen Joseph and Hyrum [Smith], Brigham Young, John Taylor and all the good men who had lived in this dispensation assembled with us, as also Esaias, Jeremiah, and all the Holy Prophets and Apostles who had prophesied of the latter day work. They were rejoicing with us in this building which had been accepted of the Lord and [when] the [Hosanna] shout had reached the throne of the Almighty, they too had joined in the joyous shout. Susa Young Gates, the official stenographer for the dedicatory services, attended the first session of the dedication. I was sitting on the lower side of the east pulpits, at the recorder s table, she wrote. Almost as soon as President [Joseph F.] Smith began to address the Saints, there shone through his countenance a radiant light that gave me a peculiar feeling. I thought that the clouds must have lifted, and that a stream of sunlight had lighted on the President s head. I looked out of the window, and somewhat to my surprise there was not the slightest rift in the heavy, black clouds above the city; there was not a gleam of sunshine anywhere. Whence had come the light that shone from the face of President Smith? Most people remember the terrible storm of that day. It was a day not easily to be forgotten. I was told afterwards by Sister Edna Smith who lived on the corner of First West and north Temple streets that her parents came outside of their door at about the time of the opening of the services. They stood for some time watching the gloomy, cloud swept heavens intently, when they saw all at once a glow of glorious light surround the Temple and circle about it as if it were an intelligible Presence... Whence then had come the light that shone from the face of President Smith? I was sure that I had seen the actual Presence of the Holy Spirit, focussed upon the features of the beloved leader and Prophet Joseph F. Smith. I cherish the occurrence as one of the most sacred experiences of my life. Sister Gates was not the only person to witness the light surrounding President Smith. An elder seated at the opposite end of the room saw a light of yellowish or golden tint and exceedingly brilliant appear around President Smith as he spoke. 6

As the still-standing group of people in the assembly room sang The Spirit of God like a fire is burning! The latter-day glory begins to come forth; The visions and blessings of old are returning, And angels are coming to visit the earth, many wept uncontrollably and could not finish the hymn. 16 The Heavenly Manifestations Continue This same spirit prevailed throughout the remaining dedicatory services. A total of forty-one sessions were held over a two-week period in order for as many worthy members as possible to attend the sessions. In all, more than seventy-five thousand people attended the ceremonies, many of them later remembering the powerful spiritual feelings they experienced. On Monday, 17 April 1893, Brother Andrew Smith, Jr., a member of the Tabernacle Choir, opened his eyes as President Cannon read the dedicatory prayer. He said of the experience, I saw a bright light appeared above his [President Cannon s] head and behind him from his shoulders upwards. This light remained in that position a few moments and then raised until I could see the face of a personage in the midst of it. It was the countenance of President Brigham Young. I turned my gaze away for a moment as if to ascertain whether I was looking with my own eyes. On again looking toward the stand I beheld the entire person of President Young clothed in robes. He soon retires toward the rear of the stand and disappeared behind President Wilford Woodruff. After he had vanished I gain turned my attention to the Elder who was reading when I saw a light similar to what had appeared previously and then I beheld the person of President John Taylor who seemed to be looking towards the reader. I also saw a personage whom I took to be Hyrum Smith although he appeared to be more spare in build than he is represented to be in his pictures; then Orson Pratt, whom I at once recognized; then there were three large men whom I could not identify. There were others of more slender build whom I also failed to recognize. There were in all about twelve whom I saw during the dedicatory prayer. When the prayer was concluded and just before and during the sacred hosanna shout, I noticed a bright halo of light surrounding several of the brethren and the speakers during the same services were seemingly encircled by a brightness which appeared to emanate from their own persons. I was overcome and wept for joy. Having my head bowed for a short time I saw nothing more for a few moments. On raising it again I saw a brilliant light over the head of each member of the First Presidency while they sat upon the stand. Whichever way any of the speakers turned while addressing the people, the light followed every movement made by them. The number of personages seen by me during the services subsequent to the reading of the dedicatory prayer was about twelve making as near as I can state about twentyfour in all. At the afternoon session on the same day I saw several personages and immediately felt a desire to communicate the information of what I saw to Brother George Kirkham who was sitting near me. The vision then became dim. I turned to him and told him of those appearances. On directing my gaze once more toward the Melchezidek stand, I could see nothing more, the vision having closed. (Juvenile Instructor 15 Nov 1907 pages 683-684) Eleven-year-old George Monk of Payson, Utah, attended the temple dedication with his mother and grandmother. He saw a man appear at the south-east circular window of the assembly hall of the Temple. This personage looked into the interior. When he told his mother, he was surprised to hear her say she could not see him. As the meeting 7

continued, he saw two other [angels moving] across the upper part of the hall from south to north and five others [who] had entered the large compartment and were ranged upon the wide ledge which runs along the wall under the row of circular windows, and described them as the prettiest men he had ever seen. Just prior to the benediction, he said, Mamma, look at that one under the clock, he is the prettiest of them all. See! he is holding up both his hands like this. Then George held up his own hands to show his mother. In all, he saw eight angelic personages and described them as dressed in loose flowing white robes and most, if not all, had long and somewhat wavy hair. 18 Though his mother did not view the same manifestation, she did confirm George s conversation and hand gestures. Hans Jensen Hals viewed a similar Heavenly manifestation and recorded it in his journal. I and [my] family and two hundred members of the ward had the privilege to be at the dedication services and had a splendid time. Rich instructions [came] from the authorities [of the Church]. Angels of God were seen coming in the south-east window and sitting on the corners. Two of them moved across the large hall over the people and went out the north window. While outside the temple, others saw a glow of glorious light surround the Temple and circle about it as if it were an intelligible Presence. Rudger Clawson of the Quorum of the Twelve wrote in his journal that while he and his wife, Lydia, were waiting for the dedication service to begin on the evening of April 8, Lydia heard beautiful singing that seemed to come from the South East Corner of the room. At first she thought there must be a choir there, but of course there was not. She heard the singing twice. Eight-year-old Alice Minerva Richards recorded that during the meeting on April 7, she heard beautiful music, beyond anything [she had ever] heard elsewhere and saw angels. When she returned home, she told her younger brothers and sisters, including seven-year-old LeGrand, who later became a member of the Quorum of the Twelve, about her experience. The Dedication of the Manti Temple Elder Franklin D. Richards of the Twelve Apostles reported: "When we dedicated the Temple at Manti, many of the brethren and sisters saw the presence of spiritual beings, discernible only by the inward eye. The Prophets Joseph, Hyrum, Brigham and various other Apostles that have gone were seen and not only this, but the ears of many of the faithful were touched, and they heard the music of the Heavenly choir.", Genealogical Magazine, Vol. 15:148. The following was reported in the Millennial Star: On the 22 nd May when Brother John W. Taylor was speaking a bright halo surrounded him and in that halo the personages of Presidents Brigham Young, John Taylor and a third personage who we believed to be the Prophet Joseph were seen by sisters Emma G. Bull of Salt Lake City; also the personage of Brother Jedediah M. Grant was seen by her standing by his son Heber J. Grant, looking towards him while he was speaking; they were surrounded by a bright halo. Millennial Star Vol. 50 13 Aug 1888 p. 522 8

Heavenly Choirs and Music were also heard by many See accounts in And there were Angels among them by Marlene Sullivan pages 138-140 Just after the Dedication of the St. George Temple The signers of the Declaration of Independence appear to Wilford Woodruff We have labored in the St. George Temple since January, and we have done all we could there; and the Lord has stirred up our minds, and many things have been revealed to us concerning the dead. President Young has said to us, and it is verily so, if the dead could they would speak in language loud as ten thousand thunders, calling upon the servants of God to rise up and build Temples, magnify their calling and redeem their dead. This doubtless sounds strange to those present who believe not the faith and doctrine of the Latter-day Saints; but when we get to the spirit-world we will find out that all that God has revealed is true. We will find, too, that everything there is reality, and that God has a body, parts and passions, and the erroneous idea that exist now with regard to him will have passed away. I feel to say little else to the Latter-day Saints wherever and whenever I have the opportunity of speaking to them, that to call upon them to build these Temples now under way, to hurry them up to completion. The dead will be after you, they will seek after you as they have after us in St. George. They called upon us, knowing that we held the keys and power to redeem them. I will here say, before closing, that two weeks before I left St. George, the spirits of the dead gathered around me, wanting to know why we did not redeem them. Said they, You have had the use of the Endowment House for a number of years, and yet nothing has ever been done for us. We laid the foundation of the government you now enjoy, and we never apostatized from it, but we remained true to it and were faithful to God." These were the signers of the Declaration of Independence, and they waited on me for two days and two nights. I thought it very singular, that notwithstanding so much work had been done, and yet nothing had been done for them. The thought never entered my heart, from the fact, I suppose that heretofore our minds were reaching after our more immediate friends and relatives. I straightway went into the baptismal font and called upon brother McCallister to baptize me for the signers of the Declaration of Independence, and fifty other eminent men, making one hundred in all, including John Wesley, Columbus, and others; I then baptized him for every President of the United States, except three; and when their cause is just, somebody will do the work for them. I have to felt to rejoice exceedingly in this work of redeeming the dead. I do not wonder at President Young saying he felt moved upon to call upon the Latter-day Saints to hurry up the building of these Temples. He felt the importance of the work; but now he has gone, it rests 9

with us to continue it, and God will bless our labors and we will have joy therein. This is a preparation necessary for the second advent of the Savior; and when we shall have built the Temples now contemplated, we will then begin to see the necessity of building others, for in proportion to the diligence of our labors in this direction, will we comprehend the extent of the work to be done, and the present is only a beginning. When the Savior comes, a thousand years will be devoted to this work of redemption; and Temples will appear all over this land of Joseph.--North and South America--and also in Europe and elsewhere; and all the descendants of Shem, Ham, and Japheth who received not the Gospel in the flesh, must be officiated for in the temples of God, before the Savior can present the kingdom to the Father, saying, "It is finished." 10
