The Catholic Women s League of Canada LEAGUE PRAYERS (2016)

LEAGUE PRAYER We humbly pray You, O God our Father, to bless The Catholic Women s League of Canada. Bless our beloved country, our homes and families. Send Your Holy Spirit upon us to give light to our minds and strength to our wills that we may know and fulfil Your great law of charity. Teach us to share with others at home and abroad, the good things You have given us. This we ask through our Lord Jesus Christ and the intercession of our patroness, Our Lady of Good Counsel. 1

PRAYER FOR THE HOLY FATHER O God, shepherd and ruler of all the faithful, look with favour upon Your servant N whom You have chosen shepherd of Your church. Grant him, we beseech You, that by word and example he may so benefit those in his charge, that, together with the flock entrusted to his care, he may attain everlasting life. We ask this through Christ our Lord. PRAYER FOR BISHOPS God, in every pilgrim church in the world You show us the one, holy Catholic, and Apostolic church. Help Your faithful people to gather around their shepherd(s) and to be one in the Holy Spirit through the gospel and through the Eucharist. Enable our bishop(s) to represent all Your people worthily and to become a sign and instrument of Christ s presence in the world. 2

PRAYER FOR THOSE IN HOLY ORDERS Almighty and eternal God, whose spirit sanctifies and governs the church, hear our prayers for all in holy orders, so that by the gift of Your grace, Your priests and deacons may serve You faithfully. We ask this through Christ our Lord. PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS Lord Jesus Christ, You took to Yourself a body and soul like ours, to teach us the glory of self-sacrifice and service. Mercifully instill in our hearts the desire to dedicate our lives to You. Give us priests and deacons to stand at the altar and to speak the words of the gospel; brothers and sisters to teach the young, nurse the sick and minister charity to all; lay people to imitate You in their hearts, families, work and community. 3

PRAYER FOR PARISHES God our father, You gather us together as a sign of Your love for the world. Pour Your spirit upon our parish, grant each of us a new experience of Your power, a new faithfulness to Your word, and a new consecration to Your service. We pray lord that from our parish we may reach out with help and healing for all of our neighbours. We pray for those who suffer from health issues. We pray for those whose lives are filled with worry, concern, and anxiety. We pray for those who wrestle with addiction or violence in their lives. We pray for those who struggle to pray for themselves. God our father, help us to share our faith with others, so that all people can feel the love and peace of Your presence in their own lives. 4

We ask these things through Christ our Lord, in the unity of The holy spirit, so that Your love may grow among us and Your kingdom come. 5

PRAYER TO OUR LADY OF GOOD COUNSEL Patroness of The Catholic Women's League of Canada Mary, Our Lady of Good Counsel: filled with the Holy Spirit, you were a faithful disciple of Jesus, your son. Intercede with your son for us that we may be faithful to our baptism, fervent in prayer, and generous in the service we give to our sisters and brothers. May the spirit of the living God, who graced you with the gift of counsel, lead us in the way of truth and love. With the help of your prayers, may we come to rejoice forever with you and the great company of saints in the kingdom of heaven. 6

PRAYER TO WALK WITH MARY Jesus, our brother and our Lord, You have come to save us because God loves us with a deep and unending love. You have given us Mary, Your mother, to be our mother too, and invite us to follow her example. On earth she was a woman of faith and prayer, of obedience to God s will, always ready to serve in any way. In heaven she continues to pray for us, so that we may serve God faithfully in our daily living. Jesus, help us to ponder in our hearts over the many ways You show Your love in our lives, and lead us to walk with Your mother as we follow You each day. Jesus, we praise You, for You are our Lord and our God forever and ever. CCCB Prayers for Jubilee 2000. Used with permission of Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) 7

PRAYER FOR MARRIED LIFE O God, You have created man and woman in Your own image. Bless all men and women whom You have joined through the sacrament of marriage. Open their hearts and minds to receive Your great gift of love. Let this love they have for each other grow, as they cherish You and each other, so that they reflect Your covenant love, revealed in Your son. Make all couples a stable family unit, faithful to You and to each other. Gift all marriages with children as a special sign of Your love. Keep all couples ever mindful of Your constant love and their call to share it by teaching their children in Your loving ways. Help them to see beyond the bonds of their marriage, caring for all of Your creation. We make this prayer through Christ our Lord. 8

PRAYER TO ST. JOSEPH St. Joseph, your life was one of faithfulness, toward God, toward Jesus, toward Mary, toward all people. Obtain for us the grace to be faithful in all things to God, to Jesus, to one another, and to the church. Guardian of the holy family, be with us in our trials. May your prayers obtain for us the strength to flee from error and the powers of corruption so that in life we may grow in holiness and in death rejoice in the crown of victory.
