Devotion from the Pastor You shall not commit adultery. Exodus 20:14 It s June that makes this the 6 th month so I ve chosen the 6 th commandment to reflect upon for our June newsletter. And I know many of you might be saying to yourselves, But Pastor, we just had the 10 commandments during Lent why do we need them again??? To which I now respond but dear brothers and sisters, did you notice that I said MANY of you might and not ALL??? That s because I wish to have us reflect this month on something that is near and dear to my heart the gathering of God s children as we work not on keeping the 6 th commandment, which most often reflects upon something that s done in private, but on the 3 rd commandment that Remember the Sabbath Day one You see, I m someone (and I pray this doesn t come as a surprise) who like the Psalmist so wonderfully says: O LORD, I love the habitation of your house and the place where your glory dwells. Psalm 26:8 and, One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in his temple. Psalm 27:4. And as some of you may remember last April, I was blessed to be asked to present teachings on the book of Hebrews, chapter 10, which included these wonderful words: And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. Hebrew 10:24-25 Now I know that there will always be days when we re physically unable to be in church we may be ill, or weather might not be conducive to getting out, especially given the terrain here in East Tennessee but shouldn t we try harder to show our God we love Him??? Shouldn t we be better at Putting on our Sunday Best to reflect back to Him who has done so much for us or is it too much to rise up on a Sunday morning and, offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name. Hebrews 13:15 And I pray that as you now contemplate this devotion of mine, your heart may be renewed to increase devotion to Him who has poured out so much knowing that we ought to do as the Psalmist suggests: One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in his temple. Psalm 27:4 And since there is no other place where we can receive His blessings, especially those blessings received through the Sacraments, where else but in His house can we be so blessed??? So may this new month renew in you an earnest desire to seek the Lord while He may be found in His Word and sacraments here in your church home, located at 2717 Buffalo Trail, at 11am each and every Sunday possible Amen.

Commentary from Doris HALF TIME Those of us who are into watching basketball play-offs (college or NBA) are ready to get up-stretch-go for a short walk or fill up our cups/glasses for the next 5-8 minutes while re-hashing of the first half of the game(s) are re-played/re-analyzed/et.al. Now, June is a half-time too. Sixth month of the year of 12 months. O.K., technically, it s really June 30 th when it s fully half year-but, for now let s get a jump on the actual end of our half-a-year. As basketball players do at half-time, let s take a review of how we played the first half: the good plays/the oops plays/ and the bad plays. Did we as Christs team members pump up our defense against the opponent- the tempter, Satan? Did we guard our opponent well enough to prevent his scoring points against us? And, did we-aggressively-score as many points against him when the opportunity presented itself? : Well, half-time is a good time to listen to our coach-who knows the opponent even better than we do-and who gives wise and winning words of instruction to us. Oh yes, you and I need those instructions-else we won t make it as a team-much less a winning team. Don t think I ll insult you dear readers by naming the Coach here-you know who it is, right?! RIGHT. So-use the mistakes from the first-half to your advantage, team-there is a positive lesson to be learned from them. Review the game-plan and the instructions for how you ll be a V.I.P. member of the winningest ever. The instructions? Why, the coach wrote them OUT clearly in the only gameplan Book which guarantees a win all the way. Yes, the opponent is out there, just waiting for the chance to beat us at his own game-but, teamremember, that game doesn t have a chance against the basic instructions our Coach gave us.
