St. Agatha Parish FEATURED WEEKLY READING THEME: We must do what God wants. What in this reading touches you? What line or word in this reading caught your ear?? First Reading: Exodus 20: 1 17 In those days, God delivered all these commandments: I, the LORD am your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery. You shall not have other gods besides me. You shall not take the name of the LORD, your God, in vain. For the LORD will not leave unpunished the one who takes his name in vain. Remember to keep holy the sabbath day. Honor your father and your mother, that you may have a long life in the land which the Lord, your God, is giving you. You shall not kill. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. You shall not covet your neighbor s house. You shall not covet your neighbor s wife, nor his male or female slave, nor his ox or ass, nor anything else that belongs to him. Pastoral Planning March 4 ~ Third Sunday of Lent Today s Gospel gives us a picture of Jesus that may make us uncomfortable. Jesus knew well the wrongs and injustices that were prevalent in some temple practices. Let us remember the wrath of Jesus against those who made it difficult, if not impossible, for people to be welcome in the house of God. As we strive to become better at being evangelizing parishes, is there anything about our church/ parish life a snobbishness, an exclusiveness, a coldness, a lack of welcome which might keep the seeking stranger away? Lent gives us a good opportunity to make the necessary changes to those behaviors. Please join us after the 7am and 9am Masses on Wednesday, March 7th for Coffee & Conversation. Come visit with long time friends or reach out and make new friends. THE WEEKLY UPDATE Milton Quincy We will be offering an additional way for interested parishioners to give alms during this holy season of Lent. One of our Outreach partners for many years has been My Brother s Keeper. Most of you know them through our Christmas Giving Tree project which has been very popular for over 25 years. But the work of MBK goes far beyond Christmas. Each year they help hundreds of families in crisis throughout the year with furniture, home furnishings and food, fulfilling their Mission To bring the love and hope of Jesus Christ to those we serve. This Lent they have asked for our assistance in collecting housewares to be distributed to families in need. They are especially in need of bathroom towels, sheets (all sizes including cribs, comforters, pots, pans, flatware and serving utensils such as spatulas and ladles. (There are flyers at the Church entrances with more information.) Although there is a preference for new items, if you have gently used items they will be gratefully accepted as well. Beginning this weekend and continuing through Holy Week, you can drop off any items you would like to contribute on the table in the Gathering Space near the Holy Family statue under the sign that says My Brother s Keeper. On behalf of My Brother s Keeper and the families they serve, thanks so much for your generosity. Last weekend in addition to the Weekly Offertory below, $856 was donated towards our Easter flowers in memory of loved ones. If you contribute using Offertory envelopes, there is an envelope in your packet for this purpose. If you do not use the envelope system and would like to contribute simply include your contribution in a plain envelop and note the individual(s) in whose memory the donation is made. The names of all of those whose memories are honored in this way will be published in the Bulletin. Thank you for your generosity.
