... The Liturgy of the Word The First Lesson Acts 8:26-40 26 Then an angel of the Lord said to Philip, Get up and go towards the south to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza. (This is a wilderness road.) 27 So he got up and went. Now there was an Ethiopian eunuch, a court official of the Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, in charge of her entire treasury. He had come to Jerusalem to worship 28 and was returning home; seated in his chariot, he was reading the prophet Isaiah. 29 Then the Spirit said to Philip, Go over to this chariot and join it. 30 So Philip ran up to it and heard him reading the prophet Isaiah. He asked, Do you understand what you are reading? 31 He replied, How can I, unless someone guides me? And he invited Philip to get in and sit beside him. 32 Now the passage of the scripture that he was reading was this: Like a sheep he was led to the slaughter, and like a lamb silent before its shearer, so he does not open his mouth. 33 In his humiliation justice was denied him. Who can describe his generation? For his life is taken away from the earth. 34 The eunuch asked Philip, About whom, may I ask you, does the prophet say this, about himself or about someone else? 35 Then Philip began to speak, and starting with this scripture, he proclaimed to him the good news about Jesus. 36 As they were going along the road, they came to some water; and the eunuch said, Look, here is water! What is to prevent me from being baptized? 37 And Philip said, If you believe with all your heart, you may. And he replied, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. 38 He commanded the chariot to stop, and both of them, Philip and the eunuch, went down into the water, and Philip baptized him. 39 When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip away; the eunuch saw him no more, and went on his way rejoicing. 40 But Philip found himself at Azotus, and as he was passing through the region, he proclaimed the good news to all the towns until he came to Caesarea. Lector The Word of the Lord. People Thanks be to God. Psalm 66: 1-11 1 11 1 Be joyful in God, all you lands; sing the glory of his Name; sing the glory of his praise. 2 Say to God, How awesome are your deeds! because of your great strength your enemies cringe before you. Communion Music O Praise the Name I cast my mind to Calvary Where Jesus bled and died for me I see His wounds His hands His feet My Saviour on that cursed tree His body bound and drenched in tears They laid Him down in Joseph's tomb The entrance sealed by heavy stone Messiah still and all alone Chorus O praise the Name of the Lord our God O praise His Name forevermore For endless days we will sing Your praise Oh Lord oh Lord our God Then on the third at break of dawn The Son of heaven rose again O trampled death where is your sting The angels roar for Christ the King He shall return in robes of white The blazing sun shall pierce the night And I will rise among the saints My gaze transfixed on Jesus' face Communion Music Cornerstone My hope is built on nothing less Than Jesus' blood and righteousness I dare not trust the sweetest frame But wholly trust in Jesus' Name Chorus Christ alone cornerstone Weak made strong in the Saviour's love Through the storm He is Lord Lord of all When darkness seems to hide His face I rest on His unchanging grace In every high and stormy gale My anchor holds within the veil My anchor holds within the veil When He shall come with trumpet sound Oh may I then in Him be found Dressed in His righteousness alone Faultless stand before the throne 5 3 All the earth bows down before you, sings to you, sings out your Name. 18

Communion Music House of God Forever God is my shepherd I won't be wanting I won't be wanting He makes me rest In fields of green With quiet streams Even though I walk Through the valley Of death and dying I will not fear Cause you are with me You are with me Your shepherd's staff Comforts me You are my feast In the presence of enemies Surely goodness Will follow me Follow me In the house of God forever Communion Music Alleluia, He is Coming I looked up and saw my Lord a coming, I looked up and saw my Lord a coming down the road. Refrain Alleluia, He is coming, alleluia, He is here. Alleluia, He is coming, alleluia, He is here. I looked up and saw my Lord a weeping, I looked up and saw my Lord a weeping for my sins. Refrain I looked up and saw my Lord a dying, I looked up and saw my Lord a dying on the Cross. Refrain I looked up and saw my Lord a rising, I looked up and saw my Lord a rising from the grave. Refrain 4 Come now and see the works of God, how wonderful he is in his doing toward all people. 5 He turned the sea into dry land, so that they went through the water on foot, and there we rejoiced in him. 6 In his might he rules for ever; his eyes keep watch over the nations; let no rebel rise up against him. 7 Bless our God, you peoples; make the voice of his praise to be heard; 8 Who holds our souls in life, and will not allow our feet to slip. 9 For you, O God, have proved us; you have tried us just as silver is tried. 10 You brought us into the snare; you laid heavy burdens upon our backs. 11 You let enemies ride over our heads; we went through fire and water; but you brought us out into a place of refreshment. Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. The Second Lesson 1 John 3:14-24 14 We know that we have passed from death to life because we love one another. Whoever does not love abides in death. 15 All who hate a brother or sister are murderers, and you know that murderers do not have eternal life abiding in them. 16 We know love by this, that he laid down his life for us and we ought to lay down our lives for one another. 17 How does God s love abide in anyone who has the world s goods and sees a brother or sister in need and yet refuses help? 18 Little children, let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action. 19 And by this we will know that we are from the truth and will reassure our hearts before him 20 whenever our hearts condemn us; for God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. 21 Beloved, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have boldness before God; 22 and we receive from him whatever we ask, because we obey his 17 6

commandments and do what pleases him. 23 And this is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us. 24 All who obey his commandments abide in him, and he abides in them. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit that he has given us. Lector The Word of the Lord. People Thanks be to God. Sequence Hymn 180 Please stand He is Risen, He is Risen! The Breaking of the Bread Celebrant Alleluia! Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us; People Therefore let us keep the feast! Alleluia! The Prayer of Humble Access We do not presume to come to this, your table, O merciful Lord, trusting in our own righteousness, but in your abundant and great mercies. We are not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under your table; but you are the same Lord, whose character is always to have mercy. Grant us, therefore, gracious Lord, so to eat the flesh of your dear Son Jesus Christ, and to drink his blood, that our sinful bodies may be made clean by his body, and our souls washed through his most precious blood, and that we may evermore dwell in him, and he in us. Amen. Invitation to Communion Celebrant The Gifts of God for the People of God. Fraction Anthem Great is Thy Faithfulness The Gospel Please remain standing John 14:15-21 Gospeler The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to St. John. People Glory to you, Lord Christ. 15 Jesus said If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, to be with you for ever, 17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him; you know him, for he dwells with you, and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you desolate; I will come to you. 19 Yet a little while, and the world will see me no more, but you will see me; because I live, you will live also. 20 In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. 21 He who has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me; and he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him. Gospeler The Gospel of the Lord. People Praise to you, Lord Christ. The Sermon Please be seated The Nicene Creed Please stand We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. 15 8

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. The Prayers of the People, Form I (BCP 383) Please kneel The people respond to each bidding with the words Lord, have mercy, and to the final bidding with the words To you, O Lord our God. The Confession of Sin Please remain kneeling Celebrant and People Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. The Absolution 9 14

On the night he was handed over to suffering and death, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, "Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me." After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, "Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me." Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith: Celebrant and People Christ has died. Christ is risen; Christ will come again. The Celebrant continues We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving. Recalling his death, resurrection, and ascension, we offer you these gifts. Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your Son, the holy food and drink of new and unending life in him. Sanctify us also that we may faithfully receive this holy Sacrament, and serve you in unity, constancy, and peace; and at the last day bring us with all your saints into the joy of your eternal kingdom. All this we ask through your Son Jesus Christ: By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and for ever. AMEN. And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to sing, People and Celebrant The Comfortable Words The Celebrant may then say one or more of the following sentences, first saying Hear the Word of God to all who truly turn to him. Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28 God so loved the world, that he gave his only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:16 The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. 1 Timothy 1:15 If anyone sins, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. 1 John 2:1-2 The Peace The ministers and people greet one another in the name of the Lord. Celebrant The Peace of the Lord be always with you. People And with your spirit. Announcements The Holy Communion... Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia! The Great Thanksgiving - Eucharistic Prayer A Please remain standing Celebrant The Lord be with you. People And with your spirit. Celebrant Lift up your hearts. People We lift them to the Lord. Celebrant Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People It is right to give him thanks and praise. Celebrant It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. But chiefly are we bound to praise you for the glorious resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord; for he is the true Paschal Lamb, who was sacrificed for us, and has taken away the sin of the world. By his death he has destroyed death, and by his rising to life again he has won for us everlasting life. Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name: Please kneel Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself, and, when we had fallen into sin and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent Jesus Christ, your only and eternal Son, to share our human nature, to live and die as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the God and Father of all. He stretched out his arms upon the cross, and offered himself, in obedience to your will, a perfect sacrifice for the whole world. 11 12
