week of September 5, 2010 Bible Passage Exodus 3:1 4:17 Level of Biblical Learning (God) God is unique no one and nothing can be compared to Him. Bible Truth God is, has always been, and always will be. Life Application I can praise the one true God. Yahweh Personal Bible Study Study before you teach. Let God prepare you to teach His Word. Exodus 2 describes a young Moses, rescued and adopted by Pharaoh s daughter, tended to by his own mother for about three years, and then sent to the kap, or royal nursery. Exodus 2:11-15 describes Moses removal from the excesses of Egyptian life so that God could have Moses full attention when He delivered His message. God s personal name in Hebrew is Yahweh and was eventually considered too holy to pronounce aloud! Why do you think I AM is a fitting description of God s character? What message would it convey to the Israelites? God continued with a detailed description of Moses mission. Instead of bolstering his courage, Moses offered a few objections. Memory Verse Yahweh, the God of your fathers... has sent me to you. This is My name forever. Exodus 3:15 Horeb, elsewhere called Mount Sinai, was indeed a place for phenomenal happenings. Read Exodus 19:11; Deuteronomy 5:2; and 1 Kings 8:9 to see why the mountain was so special. Regarding objection #1: God gave Moses the ability to perform three signs that would substantiate Moses announcement that God had sent him. See Exodus 4:3-9 and name them. 8 Bible Teaching for 3rd and 4th Graders God certainly gained Moses full attention with a burning bush. In Exodus 3:6, what was Moses response to God? Once Moses was aware that this was no simple desert bonfire, God cut straight to the point: Moses was to return to Egypt and rescue the Israelites. Based on what you know about Moses early life, why do you think God handpicked him for this treacherous task? Naturally, Moses felt unqualified for the job, but God graciously guaranteed Moses success (Exodus 3:12). Moses expressed concern by inquiring what he should say when the Israelites asked, What is His name? How did God identify Himself to Moses in Exodus 3:14? Regarding objection #2: Moses claim to be tongue-tied was not only an excuse, it was probably untrue if you consider Acts 7:22. Still, God promised that He would strengthen Moses voice and vocabulary. Regarding objection #3: Addressing God as Lord, then announcing that he didn t plan to obey his Lord s orders though very typical of God s children was a move that provoked God s anger. God still gave Moses even further assurance that assistance would be nearby. More lessons were ahead, but Moses had already learned an important one: God is the one true God and He deserves to be listened to at all times.

Pack Item 2, September Title Banner Pack Item 3, September Session Titles 3 PLUG IN to Bible Study a time to study, memorize, and relate to the Bible 1 The Bible says Direct attention to the title banner and attach today s session title. Invite the kids to remove their shoes. EThere E are many names for God that describe who He is and what He is like. God Called Moses Moses was working as a shepherd, keeping the sheep of his father-in-law, Jethro. He led the sheep to Mt. Horeb where he saw a strange sight. A bush was burning, but it was not burning up. Moses thought, I must go nearer to see this. When Moses went near the bush, God called to him from the bush, Moses, Moses. Here I am, Moses replied. Do not come any closer, God instructed, and take off your sandals because you are standing on holy ground. Moses obeyed and hid his face because he was afraid to look at God. God continued speaking, I have seen how unhappy and mistreated My people, the Israelites, are as slaves in Egypt. I have heard them crying out to Me. I know how they suffer. I want to rescue them from Egyptian slavery and lead them to a good land that I will give to them. I am sending you to Pharaoh, the Egyptian king, to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. Moses made excuses and each time, God had a reply. Moses said, Who am I to do this job? God said, I will be with you. Moses said, If I go and tell them God has sent me and they ask for Your name, how shall I answer? God replied, I AM WHO I AM. Tell the people I AM has sent you. Tell them I am the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Tell them I am Yahweh, and this is My name forever. God instructed Moses to tell the Israelites and their leaders that He was ready to bring them from their trouble and misery in Egypt to a good land. God told Moses that Pharaoh would have to be forced to let the people go. God promised to work miracles to change Pharaoh s mind. Moses made another excuse. Suppose they won t believe and obey me? he asked. God replied with the question, What do you have in your hand, Moses? A staff, Moses replied. God told Moses to throw the staff on the ground. When he did, it became a snake and Moses ran away from it. Pick up the snake by the tail, God said. Moses did so and the snake turned back into a staff. God performed two other miracles to prove to Moses His power. Moses still was not convinced. He said, God, You know I have never been a good speaker. God replied, Who made your mouth? I made your mouth, and I will help you speak. Moses pleaded, God, please send someone else. God was angry. He replied, Aaron, your brother, is a good speaker. I will send him with you, but you will do the signs. God promised to be with Moses and Aaron and teach them what to say and do. Exodus 3:1 4:17 10 Bible Teaching for 3rd and 4th Graders
