Religious and Cultural Observances for the 2017-2018 Academic Year The Office of Access and Equal Opportunity produces this calendar with several goals in mind. Chief among them is our goal of supporting and honoring the diverse practices of importance to members of our UIS community. We also want to inform all members of the community, to build intercultural awareness and to accommodate the need for potential dietary or work restrictions associated with these observances. And we want to enable informed awareness for scheduling of campus events, to take into account and be sensitive to the possibility that some members of the community are observant of faith traditions on particular days. This supports our goal of purposeful inclusion, to enable all members of our community to have the opportunity to fully participate in major campus events. Please contact Access and Equal Opportunity at aeo@uis.edu for more information. Also, please note that the Islamic calendar is lunar; thus, dates noted are subject to change based on the movement of the moon in a given month. Please let us know of additional observances for inclusion!
