Overnight: Flight DAY TWO THURSDAY, DECEMBER 22, 2016 ARRIVAL Arrive at Ben Gurion International Airport. Welcome by our representative and assistance with arrival formalities. Drive along the main highway to the country's capital. Welcome to Jerusalem - Enter the vibrant and colorful ancient city of Jerusalem, and experience the convergence of the old and the new. Stop at the Haas Promenade for an overlook of the Old and New City of Jerusalem and to recite the traditional shehechiyanu blessing. Check into the hotel. Welcome Dinner and trip orientation with Rabbi Miller and your tour educator at a local restaurant. Overnight: Jerusalem DAY THREE FRIDAY, DECEMBER 23, 2016 THE LAYERS OF JERUSALEM Proceed to the Old City. Explore the Jerusalem Archaeological Park, including the Davidson Center, Robinson's Arch and the Southern Wall steps where Jewish pilgrims entered the Temple Mount 2,000 years ago. Stop at the Kotel (Western Wall) and experience the special atmosphere of this holy site and then walk through the Western Wall Tunnel, the underground continuation of the Western Wall alongside the Temple Mount. Lunch on own in the Jewish Quarter and continue with a walking tour to archaeological treasures and other highlights, among them: The Cardo, the main street of Jerusalem in the 6th century King Hezekiah's First Temple-period Broad Wall Hurva Square, the central square of the Jewish Quarter Return to hotel with time to prepare for Shabbat. Depart Jerusalem to join in Kabbalat Shabbat services at Kehilat Tzur Hadassah, led by Rabbi Stacey Blank. Overnight: Jerusalem DAY FOUR SATURDAY, DECEMBER 24, 2016 INTO THE DESERT, MASADA & THE DEAD SEA Descend to the Dead Sea Basin, stopping first for a photo op on a camel. Ascend by cable-car or walk up the Snake Path to Masada, Herod's mountain palace and the site of the Jewish Zealots' last stand against the Roman Legionnaires; discuss Masada's role as a symbol of Jewish defence and its current significance in modern Israel. Lunch on own at Masada. Experience an astonishing sense of weightlessness as you float in the super-saline Dead Sea. Drive back to Jerusalem. Ben Kodesh Lechol: Havdallah overlooking the Old City. Children: Special children/youth program at the Yad Vashem complex the Jewish National Memorial to the six million Jews who perished in the Holocaust, including guided visits to the Holocaust Toy Exhibit, the Children's Memorial and the Sculpture Garden, using interactive programming, arts & crafts and children's stories and diaries from the time of the Holocaust; OR Visit the Biblical Zoo, a beautifully landscaped habitat with a special focus on preserving Biblical fauna, geared to children of all ages (2-80). All: Experience the sights, smells, and tastes of Jerusalem while walking through the Machaneh Yehuda open-air market, with lunch on own. Adults: The Power of Healing - visit the local Magen David Adom for a blood drive. Children Special programming with a youth counselor (options could be a visit to the Bloomfield Science Museum or the Youth Wing at the Israel Museum). All: Return to hotel. Overnight: Jerusalem DAY SIX MONDAY, DECEMBER 26, 2016 I'M DIGGIN' ISRAEL The Labyrinth of Israeli Politics: Dialogue with Prof. Reuven Hazan of the Political Science Department at Hebrew University. Depart Jerusalem and drive past the Ella Valley to take part in an archaeological dig at the Beit Guvrin Caves; prepare to get your hands dirty uncovering pottery from the Hellenistic period, 2,300 years ago, followed by a crawl through the Maresha Cave Labyrinth (crawling is optional). Beit Guvrin-Maresha National Park was recently recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Lunch on own en route. Visit the Ayalon Institute near Rehovot for an eye-opening tour of a clandestine munitions factory used during the British Mandate. Return to Jerusalem. Dinner on own, perhaps on the vibrant Emek Refaim Street, in Jerusalem's German Colony. Overnight: Jerusalem DAY SEVEN TUESDAY, DECEMBER 27, 2016 NATURE AND DREAMERS ON THE ROAD NORTH Check out from the hotel, depart Jerusalem and drive north, along the Jordan Valley. Visit Bio-Bee Biological Systems on Kibbutz Sde Eliyahu, leading experts in the mass production of beneficial insects and mites for agricultural purposes. There is regional cooperation in this field with Palestinians and Jordanians. Enjoy the culinary delights of a chocolate workshop at the Galita Factory on Kibbutz Degania Bet. Lunch on own en route. Drive through Tiberias on the shores of the Sea of Galilee and continue to the Upper Galilee to explore Tsfat, a center of Jewish mysticism for hundreds of years and a contemporary artists' colony, including: Guided visits to the Ari, Caro or Abuhav Synagogues with their great stories and mystical messages A stroll through the quaint Artists' Colony and shop in the galleries and crafts shops A visit to the Tsfat Candle Factory Return to the shores of Lake Kinneret and check into the kibbutz hotel. road in the southern Golan Heights in the footsteps of Israeli soldiers and their battles in the Six-Day War. Enjoy the beautiful natural scenery and gain an insight into the strategic complexity of the Golan. Depart the Upper Galilee and Golan Heights and drive west, stopping for lunch on own en route. Tikkun Olam at Nahalal - hands-on experience with Leket, a volunteer organization that provides food for the needy by collecting excess produce from farms and food distribution companies. Time and weather permitting stop at the Ancient Roman Aqueduct, located on the pristine beaches of Caesarea.
