! Catholic Christian Community 27231 Aliso Viejo Parkway Aliso Viejo, CA 92656 December 1st, 2015 Dear Corpus Christi Candidate for Confirmation: Congratulations on your journey of preparation to receive the Holy Spirit at Confirmation. The Easter Season is always a special time for people such as you, for it is within the Season of Easter that the Sacrament of Confirmation is offered to those who have been preparing to accept it. This letter will let YOU AND YOUR PARENTS know important information for scheduling purposes. I will also need some documents from you, they are explained below. Please complete the enclosed form and return it, and the other requested information to me no later than March 1st 2016. April 21st 2016: Mandatory Penance Service for Confirmation 2 Youth Only: On Thursday April 21st 2016 from 7pm to 9pm. Fr. Tim will lead the Confirmation youth in a penance service. This Penance Service is to bring the Sacrament of Healing into the life of our Confirmation youth prior to the Confirmation ceremony. Also, it is an opportunity to be open to the Holy Spirit and the Graces received at Confirmation. If you are not able to attend this night you must make an appointment with Fr. Tim prior to this penance service. April 22nd, 2016: Rehearsal Dinner: Our parish-family is very proud of you for receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation. We are hosting a dinner and rehearsal on Friday April 22nd from 7pm to 8pm in the lower hall. The dinner is for you, your sponsor, and your parents. This year parents are invited as they are a very important part of your faith formation and we want to recognize them as well. Please RSVP through the link on the email to let us know how much food to prepare. Immediately following dinner there will be a brief REHEARSAL with Fr. Tim from 8pm to 830pm in the Grand Hall. The Sacrament of Confirmation will be celebrated here in our Grand Hall (Church) on Saturday April 23rd, 2016 at 10am (Special Confirmation Mass). To ensure an orderly process you and your sponsor need to be here no later than 9:30 a.m. on Saturday April 23rd. The bishop will be available to take pictures with confirmation youth after the ceremony. Altar Servers: We will need 5 altar servers for the Ceremony on April 23rd. If you have a sibling that is Middle school age or high school age that would like to be an altar server please notify Vini. Rehearsal for altar serving will be on April 22nd from 830pm to 9pm. Those in the Confirmation ceremony are not to have other roles in the liturgy. Sponsors: You need to select a special person in your life to be your SPONSOR. A sponsor is someone who already has been, and will continue to be, a positive influence on you as you live your Catholic-Christianity. A sponsor is someone that is living the Catholic faith in word and action. They are people that you can confidently ask about their Catholic faith and they can give you a faith filled answer. Select a person (either male or female) who is a practicing Catholic (attending Catholic Mass), received the sacraments of Baptism, Communion, Confirmation and the Sacrament of Marriage in the Catholic Church (if they are married). Confirmation sponsors must be at least 16 years old and Confirmed. The person you choose should NOT BE YOUR MOM OR DAD they already have a special spiritual relationship with you. Ref: Catholic Church Code of Canon Law 874-1. Sponsor should be someone who will be an additional positive, continual influence on your faith life, not just an honorary position for a distant relative or a boyfriend/girlfriend. It is possible to have a proxy for sponsors that are unable to attend on the day of the ceremony due to illness. This means that a Catholic parent can stand in for your sponsor on the day of the ceremony. This is only the exception and not the norm. Please have your sponsor complete the Confirmation Attestation Form, have it signed and stamped by their parish priest. Reminder that Confirmation sponsors should be receiving the Eucharist at the ceremony.
! Saint Name: You are asked to select a new Confirmation name (as many of your parents did), the name of a Saint, thus linking yourself with the larger Body of Christ that spans the centuries. Choose a saint name that will connect with your spiritual journey. You may also choose a patron saint that represents your future career in life. On the day of Confirmation, the Bishop will call you by your Saint name. When selecting your saint make sure you identify the full name of the saint such as Saint Catherine of Sienna instead of St. Catherine. Some websites to visit are www.americancatholic.org/features/saints/patrons.aspx or www.catholic.org/saints/ Bishops Letter: Each Confirmation youth must write a letter addressed to the Bishop in which a few letters will be read or referred to during the Confirmation ceremony. The letter should follow the example enclosed and be a single page with 10-13 font. The letter must be neatly typed and signed by the youth and turned in to the Youth Minister by March1st. Attached is the format. Do Not mail to the Diocese. Sacrament Documents: If you haven t already turned in your documents of Baptism and first Communion please do so by March 1st. These certificates can be obtained by contacting the Baptism parish where you received the sacrament of Baptism. It usually takes a few weeks to a few months for these requests to be processed so RIGHT NOW would be a good time to make contact with these parishes and get the process rolling. If you received these sacraments at Corpus Christi please note them on the form below. During the Homily at Confirmation Mass on April 23rd, you will be asked some questions about the Catholic faith. Be prepared to answer especially if the Bishop calls upon you. After the homily, you will be invited to come forward. The Bishop will anoint your forehead with Chrism, saying, Saint, be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit. You answer: AMEN. The Bishop will then say, Peace be with you. You answer: AND WITH YOUR SPIRIT. Dress for Confirmation is dress-up nice: suit/coat/tie for young men, church dresses (with suitable modesty appropriate for Mass) for the young ladies. Dresses must be knee length or longer. (In case your relatives ask, NO, we don t use Confirmation gowns.) Please save the cute outfits for other social functions as this is a function that shows respect and reverence. Please make sure your sponsors dress with the same appropriate attire. Keep in mind that everyones attention is on you on this special day. To sum up by March 1st I need to receive from you: 1. The completed enclosed Confirmation Registration Form. 2. A copy of your Baptismal Certificate. 3. A copy of your First Communion Certificate unless annotated on your baptism certificate. 4. The full name of your Sponsor. 5.
