For: Sunday, August 16, 2015 A Call to Repentance Lesson: Ezekiel 18:1-13, 31-32 GOLDEN TEXT: Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel? (Ezekiel 18:31). TODAY S AIM: To see how God sees the individual s responsibility for sin. INTRODUCING THE LESSON: There are always myths and misconceptions floating around in a society. This is probably more prevalent in spiritual things than in any other area of life. You may have taught a spiritual truth only to have someone say, Well, I have always heard that. Then they will give some distortion of truth by which they are judging what you taught from the Scriptures! This week s lesson counters the idea that when a father sins, the consequences are brought onto his children. While some types of sins of fathers do have lasting effects on the children, the truth is that the responsibility for the father's sins are his own to bear. The children have their own responsibility. Each person has his own life about which to be concerned.. PRACTICAL POINTS: 1. We cannot blame anyone else for the suffering we experience due to our sin (Ezekiel 18:1-3). 2. Each one of us is personally answerable to God (Ezekiel 18:4). 3. Following the Lord brings rewards now and forever (Ezekiel 18:5-9). 4. It is the one we trust and follow that counts with God, not the people we know or are related to (Ezekiel 18:10-13). 5. True repentance means abandoning our sins, not just being sorry for them (Ezekiel 18:31). 6. Like God, we should confront people with their sins out of love for them (Ezekiel 18:32). CONCLUDING THE LESSON: Many of our proper conclusions should have been reached in the main part of the lesson. We fall far short ourselves if we do not maintain the attitude of hope for each person s salvation and walk with God. It is tragic and unnecessary for anyone to be lost. Emergency Notices All emergency situations are to be reported immediately to the Associate Pastor Reverend Frank Bell e.g., death, hospital emergency, etc. The Deacon and Deaconess Ministry The following Deacons and Deaconess are available to assist members of our Church with prayer and offering of a helping hand whenever assistance is needed and subsequently requested: During the period of August 10 through September 13 contact the following: Deacon James Jones, 443-762-1097 Deacon Luke Montgomery Sr., 443-629-7297 Deaconess Beverly Wilson, 443-559-0987 Deaconess Janine Withers, 443-994-9581 ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Reverend Irvin Pope, Senior Pastor Reverend Marshall L.
