Pray without Fainting, Ask, Intercede, & Pray Perseveringly Luke 11:1-13: And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples. And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves; For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him? And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee. I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth. And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? Luke 18:1-8: And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man: And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man; Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me. And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith. And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth? We, as the body of Christ, have got to come against the darkness and all that s evil in our world. One way we can do this is through intercession. Isaiah 59:16: And he saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor The angel came to Daniel from God because of the words that Daniel prayed
(Dan. 10:12). If Daniel had not stirred himself up to intercede, God wouldn t have had a man to stand in the gap so He could move on behalf of mankind. We need to put daily time into intercession and prayer for our nation, our leaders, our families and loved ones. The Holy Spirit s Role in Intercession It s the Holy Spirit Who gives you utterance in an unknown tongue to help you make spiritual intercession for the known and the unknown. Satan doesn t know everything, but God does. This is one of the reasons God wants every believer to be baptized in the Holy Spirit and speak in tongues. When you put time praying in the spirit, which means praying in tongues, you re able to pray for things that you re unaware of, and for the unknown. Plus, while you re praying in tongues, you re building yourself up spiritually (Jude 20); you're praying the will of God (Romans 8:27); and you re praying divine secrets (1 Corinthians 14:2). Romans 8:26-28: Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. 1 Corinthians 14:2,4: For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself Jude 20: But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, Ways to Intercede Galatians 4:19: My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you,
We can intercede for others by praying the Word over them, and one way is by using Ephesians 1 & 3. Just say the people s names that you are praying for where it says, ye and you. This is a scriptural way of intercession. Ephesians 1:15-23:... I... Cease not to give thanks for, making mention of in my prayers; That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of understanding being enlightened; that may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all. Ephesians 3:14-21: For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That he would grant, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in hearts by faith; that, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that might be filled with all the fulness of God. Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen. You can also intercede for others by praying in the spirit, which is praying in tongues and allowing the Holy Spirit to pray through you... [Not in your own strength] for it is God Who is all the while effectually at work in you [energizing and creating in you the power and desire], both to will and to work for His good pleasure and satisfaction and delight. Phil. 2:13 AMP
For one who speaks in an [unknown] tongue speaks not to men but to God, for no one understands or catches his meaning, because in the [Holy] Spirit he utters secret truths and hidden things [not obvious to the understanding]. He who speaks in a [strange] tongue edifies and improves himself, but he who prophesies [interpreting the divine will and purpose and teaching with inspiration] edifies and improves the church and promotes growth [in Christian wisdom, piety, holiness, and happiness]. For if I pray in an [unknown] tongue, my spirit [by the Holy Spirit within me] prays, but my mind is unproductive [it bears no fruit and helps nobody]. Then what am I to do? I will pray with my spirit [by the Holy Spirit that is within me], but I will also pray [intelligently] with my mind and understanding; I will sing with my spirit [by the Holy Spirit that is within me], but I will sing [intelligently] with my mind and understanding also. 1 Corinthians 14:2,4,14,15 AMP God has been trying to get today s church spiritually strong because He knew what was going to come, and what is going to come. He wants us to be prepared to meet the challenge. We all need to deny ourselves and become people of intercession so we can turn our nation around to follow after God. Confess to one another therefore your faults (your slips, your false steps, your offenses, your sins) and pray [also] for one another, that you may be healed and restored [to a spiritual tone of mind and heart]. The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working]. James 5:16 AMP We have to stir ourselves up to pray. We live in a world today that has the same attitude as the people described in Job 21:14,15: Therefore they say unto God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways. What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what profit should we have, if we pray unto him? People are spiritually blinded; they don t know God, or His ways - nor do they care to know God or His ways. So, It s our job, as the church, to intercede and pray that the eyes of their understanding be enlightened. If we don t get busy and start praying and interceding, we re going to pay a high price, both individually, and also as a nation. For the time we put into prayer and intercession, God will not only move on our behalf and on behalf of others, He ll actually pay us and reward us, because He said in Romans 8:28: And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
If you and I will do verses 26 & 27 (praying in tongues), He will do verse 28. Plus, as we draw nigh unto God through prayer and praying in the spirit, we get built up spiritually. But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. Jude 20,21 Not only do we get built up spiritually by praying in the Holy Ghost, it also helps us to keep the love commandment (John 13:34), and we ll also see the manifestation power of the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. That is, the salvation of loved ones, friends, neighbors, coworkers, and whomever we ve been praying and interceding for. It s God s will that none perish, but that all people come to know the Lord Jesus Christ. But this won t happen if we don t pray and intercede. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. 1 Timothy 2:5,6 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. Isaiah 53:12 I look forward to sharing more with you tomorrow. Remember that God wishes above all things that you prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers (3 John 2).
