Series at a Glance for Kid-O-Deo About this Series: At Christmas, the world is filled with light! From sparkling trees to the shining faces of happy carolers, light is everywhere at Christmastime. That s why it s the happiest time of year! When we do good things for God, we can fill the world with more great things like joy, peace, love, and hope. That s our goal this Christmas, to share Jesus with everyone through the things we say and do! Memory Verse: Mark 10:45- Even the Son of Man did not come to be served. Instead, he came to serve others. Weekly Overview: Lesson: Topic: Big Idea: : Nov. 25/26 The Angel Mary and Joseph: Luke 1; 2:1-7 I can share love! Lesson 2: Dec. 2/3 The Star Wise Men: Matthew 2:1-12 I can share peace! Lesson 3: Dec. 9/10 The Song Shepherds: Luke 2:8-20 I can share joy! Lesson 4: Dec. 16/17 The Hope Simeon and Anna: Luke 2:21-40 I can share hope! Lesson 5: Dec. 23/24* The Baby Jesus: Luke 2; John 1; John 18-20. I can share Jesus story! 2

Series at a Glance for Kid-O-Deo (continued) : The Angel Until an angel came to Mary and Joseph, they didn t expect God to do amazing things through them. Many people just don t know how much God loves them, but it often only takes one small act of love or kindness to show them that they matter to him. We can share love with everyone this Christmas, because everyone is loved by God! Lesson 2: The Star To the wise men, God sent a star. They had a lot of knowledge and money, but they traveled around the world looking for something more important, the gift of peace. The star led them to a small child who would bring peace to the whole world. The gift of peace is still one of the greatest things we can share today. Lesson 3: The Song A group of shepherds got a big surprise on the first Christmas! A shining choir of angels came to them, and told them that God s Son, Jesus, had been born. As the light of the angels went away, the shepherds took that news to everyone around them. Their joy shone throughout the city of Bethlehem as they told everyone that something amazing had happened. Jesus was born today! When we share our joy with others, they can learn about Jesus through us. Lesson 4: The Hope The Christmas story is all about a simple message of hope! This story happens eight days after the first Christmas, when two people named Simeon and Anna recognize Jesus. They told everyone that God s promised Savior had come! They knew that Jesus is the greatest hope of all. Lesson 5: The Baby All these Christmas stories point to one thing: God s son, Jesus. He came as a baby, not as a rich king or a powerful champion. He didn t come to take, but to give. He is the greatest light of Christmas, and the one God sent to show every person who He is. Jesus is the greatest gift of all. He is the light of the world. 3

Opening Song 3:00 (Roll when directed) Kid-O-Deo Theme Song Video (Auto advance) Kid-O-Deo Slide Introduction and Rules 2:00 Welcome to Kid-O-Deo! My name is, and I m super excited to be here with all of you! This is such an amazing time of year. We just got done with Thanksgiving, so do you know what the next holiday is? CHRISTMAS! That s right! We are going to be celebrating Christmas here in Kid-O-Deo for the next five weeks. I m so ready for all the fun songs we get to sing, the amazing Christmas stories we ll hear, and the fun Christmas activities we ll do with our groups, but before we start all that, there s something we need to learn. Actually, there are three things, our three rules here in Kid-O-Deo! Rule #1: When I m talking you are listening! Everyone put on your listening ears, and on the count of three, let s practice listening! Rule #2: Keep your hands and feet to yourself! Do a little clap and place your hands in your lap! Rule #3: Stay in your spot! Let s take our special glue sticks and put some glue on our spot to help us stay in the right place! Wonderful! Those rules help us pay attention and keep from distracting others, so we can all have fun. Value 1:00 Christmas is the time we remember why Jesus came to earth. God sent Jesus to show us how much he loves us. God loves us and does so many good things for us, so we 5

can love him and do good things for him, too! Can you repeat this after me? I can do good things for God! I CAN DO GOOD THINGS FOR GOD! Worship 3:00 There are so many good things we can do for God. We can help other people, because God made them. We can share and be kind, and we can tell other people how great God is! One great way to tell others about God is to sing. Let s stand and sing this fun Christmas song together! Song 1: It s Christmastime (Auto advance) Series Title Slide: Bible Adventure 5:00 I love singing with you! You can sit down, but get ready to go on an adventure! Do This: Show kids the Bible Do you know what this book is, Kid-Os? THE BIBLE! Yes! It s the Bible, God s message to us. God tells us so many amazing things through the stories in this book! That s why every week in Kid-O-Deo, we go on a Bible Adventure! Bible Adventure Jingle Kid-Os, I have a super important question for you. Are the stories in the Bible real or pretend? REAL! That s right, these stories actually happened. Today, we get to hear the story of why we celebrate Christmas! Two important people in that story are named Joseph and Mary. Do This: Get the Bible storybook out and sit down in the chair. This story you are going to hear comes from the Bible, but we use this storybook because the pictures help us imagine what it might have looked like back when the Bible was written. The pictures you see in here are the same as the ones on the screen. Let s get started! 6

Do This: Have kids help you turn the pages on the screen with an exaggerated arm wave. Picture 1: Mary and Joseph Mary and Joseph lived about two thousand years ago. They were normal people. Joseph was a carpenter, which means he made things out of wood, like tables or benches. Mary was a young lady who loved God very much. Mary was also engaged to be married to Joseph. Then, something happened that changed Mary and Joseph s lives forever. Picture 2: Mary and the Angel An angel appeared to Mary, and told her some incredible news. The angel said, Don t be afraid, Mary. God is very pleased with you. You will give birth to a son. You must name him Jesus. He will be called the Son of the Most High God. Mary was amazed! She would never have expected to be visited by an angel, or to be the mother of Jesus, God s Son. Picture 3: Joseph and the Angel An angel visited Joseph, too. He explained what was going to happen, and told Joseph that God had a special plan for him, which was to be the father of Jesus. Mary and Joseph weren t expecting God to do these amazing things, but he chose them to be the parents of Jesus. Picture 4: Mary, Joseph, and Jesus Later, Mary wrote a kind of song. She said God has taken note of me, even though I am not important. Mary didn t think she was a super special person, but God still chose her for an amazingly important job, caring for his son, Jesus. God loved Mary and Joseph, and chose them to be a part of his great story. After Jesus was born, Mary and Joseph raised him, fed him, and helped him grow. Series Title Slide: God loved Mary and Joseph. He loves people that have a lot, and people that don t have much. He loves people that are old, and people that are young. God loves everyone on earth! He showed Mary and Joseph that he loves them, and wants you to know that He loves you, too! 7

You listened really well, Kid-Os. It s so amazing that Jesus loves all of us enough to come down from heaven and live with us. That is what our memory verse is about, too! Let s sing our memory verse jingle together! Memory Verse 3:00 Memory Verse Jingle (Auto advance Memory Verse) Mark 10:45- Even the Son of Man did not come to be served. Instead, he came to serve others. This verse is from a book of the Bible called Mark. These words are something that Jesus actually said. Do This: Read the verse from the screen. The Son of Man is a nickname that Jesus had. So, you could say this verse like this: Even Jesus didn t come to be served. Instead He came to serve others. Jesus was God s son, but he came to serve us, and share love with us. That s super amazing! Let s practice saying that verse together! Do This: Practice the verse with the Kid-Os 2-3 times. Begin with your quiet voices, then do it in your normal voices, and finish with your super-duper loud voices! Know This: The verse with actions goes like this: Mark 10:45- Even the Son of Man (baby rocking motion) did not come (arm sweep) to be served (fist in hand). Instead he came (point upward) to serve others (extend hands outward). Great job practicing your Memory Verse, Kid-Os! Worship 3:00 God gives us so many great things, but the best present we could ever have is Jesus himself! That s what this next song is about. Let s sing together! 8

Song 2: Best Present Ever (Auto advance) Series Title Slide: Application 5:00 Singing with you is a lot of fun! You can sit down. I have a big question to think about today. Could you think about it with me? Ok, here it is. What s Christmas all about? I know we celebrate Jesus birthday on Christmas, but why did God send Jesus in the first place? Hmm. I wonder if there is something on stage that could answer that question for us. If only there were some letters or something up here that could tell us why God sent Jesus at Christmas. Do you see a word up here? Do This: With the kids guidance, find the word Love. Make sure it is set up (but not lit) ahead of the service. Oh, there it is! These letters spell Love. Do you think God sent Jesus to earth because he loves us? Let s see what the Bible says about that. John 3:16- God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son. In the book of John in the Bible, we can read some words that Jesus said. He was talking about why he came to earth! God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son. God sent Jesus to live here on earth because he loves us. Wow! So that s part of what Christmas is all about! So, if Jesus loves us, do you think we should share that love with others? YES! Yes, we should! That s the best thing about God s love, it will never run out. Remember our Bible story? God showed Mary and Joseph that he loves them, and He also loves everyone on earth. That means we can share his love with everyone! When we say that God loves us, it means that he wants to always be our friend. He is always ready to listen to us, and He will help us whenever we ask Him to. If we can love others, who should we show love to? Could we share God s love with our grown-ups? YES! Yes, we could love our grown-ups by giving them a hug, or telling them that we love them. 9

Do This: Hit the switch to light up the letter L. Could we love our neighbors, the people that live next door to us? YES! We could love them by making them a snack, or inviting them to be our friends. Do This: Light up the letter O. Could we share God s love with our friends? YES! Yes, we can! We can love our friends by sharing our things with them, saying nice things to them, and inviting them to church to learn about Jesus! Do This: Light up the letter V. Could we share God s love with someone who lives far away? YES! We can. No matter where someone is, we can pray for them, or send them a letter to encourage them. Do This: Light up the letter E. Jesus came to show us how much God loves us. That s what Christmas is all about. God loves you so much, and he is so happy when you share that love with others! I bet our Big Idea today has something to do with love, too. Let s find out! Big Idea 2:00 Big Idea Jingle To learn our Big Idea, let s check with Ranger Ron! Know This: The Big Idea is, I can share love. Big Idea Video (Auto advance) Series Title Slide: Thanks Ranger Ron! That is so true. We can share love with other people every day! Kid-O-Whampus 2:00 10

Now that we know the Big Idea, there s only one thing left to do! It s time to dance and sing as we go Kid-O-Whampus! Kid-O-Whampus: Balloon Blow-Up (Winter) (Auto-Advance) Take Homes. Prayer 2:00 That was a lot of fun! You can all sit down. Do This: Show kids the family connection card and the memory verse card. There are two things you should get as you leave today. The first one is our family connection card! This helps your grown-ups learn what we were talking about today. You might even be able to teach them something about showing other people love. The second thing is our memory verse card. This card helps you remember and practice the memory verse at home, so when you come back next week, you ll have it ready! Let s Pray Before we go to group time, we re going to talk to God. Do you know what we call it when we talk to God? PRAYER. That s right, we call talking to God praying. God loves it when we talk to him. He will always listen when you pray because He loves you. You can pray anytime and anywhere, but here in Kid-O-Deo we fold our hands in our laps and close our eyes, to help us only think about the words we are saying to God. If you want, you can repeat the words of this prayer after me. Dear God, we love you. Thank you for loving us. Help us to share love with others. Amen. Kid-O-Deo Slide 11

I have loved spending time with you, Kid-Os. Now it s time for you to go back to your classrooms where you will get into groups with your leader and other Kid-Os, have a snack, and do a fun activity. See you later! 12
