We arrive in Israel in the late afternoon and are met by an Ayelet Tours representative. We transfer from Ben Gurion Airport to Tel Aviv to check in to our hotel. Overnight in Tel Aviv Day 3: Monday, June 18, 2018: START-UP NATION We begin our tour at the new cutting-edge Taglit Innovation Center for a glimpse into Israel s hi-tech advances in the fields of science, medicine, security and space. We visit the interactive exhibition and continue with a meeting with one of Israel s leading entrepreneurs. Our next stop is at Independence Hall, the site of the signing of Israel s Declaration of Independence in 1948. Lunch on own along Rothschild Blvd. We continue with a co-existence walking tour with a Jewish and Arab guide leading us side by side through Old Jaffa. We ll also see the Jaffa flea market, currently undergoing a major renaissance. After time to relax and refresh, we enjoy a lovely and festive welcome dinner together. Spend the remainder of the evening at leisure discovering Tel Aviv. Overnight in Tel Aviv

Day 4: Tuesday, June 19, 2018: TRAVELING SOUTH Breakfast and check out of our hotel. This morning, we depart Tel Aviv and begin traveling south. Our first stop is at the Eshkol Protected School, where we witness the bravery and hope of the children and teachers, and view the buildings that are used for both learning and shelter. Our next stop is at the Salad Trail, where we will participate in a unique hands-on agricultural tour, and witness how Israeli innovation is literally making the desert bloom with crops grown out of some of the most inhospitable sands imaginable. We will pick and taste fruits and vegetables straight from the kibbutz s self-picking farm, and encounter flying strawberries, tiny orange orchards, racing pigeons and herbal gardens. We have a light lunch at the site. This afternoon, we meet Yaron Bob at his workshop. Struck by the terror of shell attacks, Yaron decided to transform something horrible into something beautiful and so began his artwork, known as Rockets to Roses. We continue to Mitzpe Ramon. As the sun begins to set, we enjoy a sunset rim hike along the Ramon Crater, and take in its amazing beauty. We check in to our hotel and have time for group reflection, followed by dinner together. Overnight in Mitzpe Ramon --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day 5: Wednesday, June 20, 2018: EXPLORING THE LAND We arise early for a sunrise jeep tour inside the Ramon Crater, watching as it basks majestically in the first light of day. Return to our hotel for breakfast and check out. We depart for Sde Boker, former home and resting place of David Ben Gurion. We pay our respects at his gravesite and visit his hut. We enjoy a refreshing hike along Israel s amazing hiking trail network. We travel north to the Galilee to check in to our kibbutz. Time for swimming and relaxing by the kibbutz pool, followed by dinner together this evening. Overnight in the Galilee Day 6: Thursday, June 21, 2018: NORTHERN ADVENTURES Breakfast at our kibbutz. Our morning begins with a hike at Gamla, a steep hill shaped like a camel s hump. Gamla is a symbol of heroism for the modern state of Israel and also an important historical and archaeological site. Later this morning, we visit Capernaum, a small fishing village on the northern shore of the Sea of Galilee, to see the archaeological excavations of two ancient synagogues and the former home of St. Peter. Lunch on own in the charming hillside village of Rosh Pina.

After lunch, we travel to the mystical city of Safed, where we discover the ancient synagogues and stroll along the cobblestone streets admiring the crafts in the artist s colony. We return to our kibbutz for a relaxing evening and dinner together. Overnight in the Galilee Day 7: Friday, June 22, 2018: THE ROAD TO JERUSALEM Breakfast and check out of our kibbutz. We begin our day with a scenic bike ride on the Israel National Bicycles Trail, a national project spanning hundreds of miles across Israel. Along the way, we see important historical sites. We head to Gan Hashlosha (Sachne) to relax in the warm natural spring waters after our invigorating bike ride. We ascend to Jerusalem, stopping at the Haas Promenade upon arrival to say Shehecheyanu, as we look out over the City of Gold for the first time. We check in to our hotel (aiming for 3:30 pm check in) Rabbi Yakar and Rabbi Rabishaw lead us in Kabbalat Shabbat services, followed by Shabbat dinner together this evening. (final location TBD) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Day 8: Saturday, June 23, 2018: SHABBAT SHALOM! Today, we set out on a Shabbat experience led by Rabbi Rabishaw and Rabbi Yakar, including a hike around Jerusalem. We will walk through the Nachlaot neighborhood, considered by many to be Jerusalem s most pluralistic community, mixing the various streams of Orthodox Judaism with secular residents. Spend the remainder of the day at leisure, enjoying Jerusalem during the calmness of Shabbat. Dinner on own this evening. (no guide today)

Day 9: Sunday, June 24, 2018: FROM THE TUNNELS TO THE ROOFTOPS Today we encounter the Old City from a new perspective: The Three Faiths Tour of Jerusalem with Hanna Bendkowsky spend the afternoon seeing the incredible patchwork of religious life in one of the most interesting and complex cities in the world. Along the way visit the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the Stations of the Cross, the Dome of the Rock, and the Kotel (Western Wall). We ll meet with leaders from Jewish, Christian and Muslim communities in the Old City along the way. Our day in the Old City will also include a visit to the Western Wall Tunnels, time for reflection at the Western Wall itself, and a walk along the Old City Ramparts. Optional (Cost included): This evening, we head to Machane Yehuda where we have time for dinner on own, followed by a late night graffiti art tour. Day 10: Monday, June 25, 2018: TIKKUN OLAM, DIALOGUE & BUILDING BRIDGES Our day begins with tikkun olam. We engage in an unforgettable 90-minute hands-on experience of packing food staples included in monthly food baskets, delivered to Israel s neediest families, at Pantry Packers. Next travel to the Gush Etzion region, where we experience home hospitality as we meet next with members of the Gush Etzion community. We meet with Ali Abu Awaad and Shaul Yudelman, founders of the Roots/Shorashim Project, a grassroots project focused on dialogue and reconciliation of Palestinians and settlers. Return to Jerusalem. The remainder of the afternoon is spent at leisure with time to explore and have dinner on our own. Later this evening, we walk to the Tower of David for the spectacular Sound and Light Show. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day 11: Tuesday, June 26, 2018: DESERT ADVENTURES Departure to King Herod's fortress and castle atop Masada, ascending by cable car. Option to hike up the snake path. Visit the remains of the walls, palaces, synagogue, and bathhouses, learning about the Jewish Zealots last stand against the Romans. Enjoy lunch and an unsinkable swim in the healing salty waters of the Dead Sea, followed by time to relax at the beautiful Crowne Plaza Resort. Return to Jerusalem. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Day 12: Wednesday, June 27, 2018: HONORING THE PAST, LOOKING AHEAD We begin today by meeting Anat Hoffman of the Israel Religious Action Center (IRAC). We learn about the struggles for equality, pluralism and social justice in Israel, and take part in their Olim (immigrant) program. We continue with an eye-opening experience at Yad Vashem, Israel s memorial to the Holocaust. Here, we see several moving exhibitions, including the Hall of Names and the Avenue of the Righteous Among the Nations; (Alternate activity/programming with Rabbi Evon for younger kids). This afternoon, we head to Mt. Herzl, Jerusalem s military cemetery, to pay our respects at the gravesites of Theodore Herzl, Golda Meir, Yitzhak Rabin and Shimon Peres. We also have the chance to see the newly unveiled Remembrance Hall that commemorates the lives of more than 23,000 fallen soldiers killed defending the State of Israel. Free time for last minute shopping or exploration. We check out of our hotel and enjoy a festive farewell dinner at Modern, the restaurant at the Israel Museum, as we recall all that we have experienced together on this journey.
