*SING GOD S PRAISE Hymn #117 Crown Him with Many Crowns Text : M. Bridges Tune: DIADEMATA Stanza 1 Crown Him with many crowns, the Lamb upon His throne; Hark! How the heav nly anthem drowns all music but its own. Awake, my soul, and sing of Him who died for thee, And hail Him as thy matchless King through all eternity. Stanza 2 Crown Him the Lord of love; behold His hands and side, Those wounds yet visible above in beauty glorified. No angel in the sky can fully bear that sight, But downward bends his burning eye at mysteries so bright. Stanza 3 Crown Him the Lord of peace, whose power a scepter sways From pole to pole, that wars may cease, and all be prayer and praise. His reign shall know no end and round His pierced feet Fair flowers of Paradise extend their fragrance ever sweet. Stanza 4 Crown Him the Lord of years, the Potentate of time, Creator of the rolling spheres, ineffably sublime. All hail! Redeemer, hail! For Thou hast died for me; Thy praise shall never, never fail throughout eternity.
SCRIPTURE LESSON Peggy Zimmerman (Turban) LEADER: For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. (1 Peter 1:18-19) ALL: Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. (Isaiah 53:4-5) LEADER: The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! This is the one I meant when I said, A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me. I myself did not know him, but the reason I came baptizing with water was that he might be revealed to Israel. ALL: Then John gave this testimony: I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him. And I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit. I have seen and I testify that this is God s Chosen One.
(John 1:29-34) LEADER: Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. In a loud voice they were saying: ALL: Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise! For Your Information THIS SUNDAY Pastor Hawkins will return to the "Signs of Life" series on the Gospel of John. The message, entitled "Behold," will explore the ways John the Baptist's ministry helps us understand how to be effective witnesses for Jesus. In the evening service Scott Eding, Employee Chaplain at Shell Point, will share from 1 Corinthians 12 regarding how spiritual gifts are established and energized by the Holy Spirit. NEXT SUNDAY Pastor Hawkins will continue the communion series entitled "The More Excellent Way" based on 1st Corinthians 13. The message is entitled "The Corrupting Power of Envy." In the evening service we will have a special service celebrating the glory of God as He has moved in The Village Church and in Shell Point over the past 30 years.
