Holy Quran, Chapter 46 Al-Ahqaf, verse 16 I seek refuge with Allah from Satan, The Accursed. And We have enjoined on man to be good to his parents. His mother bears him with pain, and brings him forth with pain. And the bearing of him and his weaning takes thirty months, till, when he attains his full maturity (1) and reaches the age of forty years, he says, My Lord, grant me the power that I may be grateful for Thy favour which Thou hast bestowed upon me and upon my parents, and that I may do such good works as may please Thee. And make my seed righteous for me. I do turn to Thee; and, truly, I am of those who submit to Thee. (1) Commentary on the word (Ashudd): The word Ashudd seems to be used in the sense of spiritual maturity here and in Ch. 12, Vs. 23, and in the sense of intellectual and physical maturity in Ch. 6, Vs. 153 and Ch. 18, Vs 83. * *Source: The Holy Quran Arabic Text with English translation and short commentary, Malik Ghulam Farid 2

Welcome to Majlis Ansarullah The helpers of Allah My Dear Brother, In the Nizam-e-Jama at every male member graduates into Majlis Ansarullah from Majlis Khuddamul Ahmadiyya on the 1 st January after your 40 th birthday. According to our records, this month marks your entry into Majlis Ansarullah. I will take this opportunity to welcome you into the Majlis in my capacity as Sadr Majlis. For your information, Majlis Ansarullah is divided into two age groups: Saf-e-Awwal for members above the age of 55 years and Saf-e-Doem for those members between the ages of 40 and 55 years. Hadhrat Khaliftul Masih III set up the younger group to encourage activity and participation from members coming from Khuddamul Ahmadiyya and to assist integration within Majlis Ansarullah. You should shortly receive a letter containing the contact details of your Zaeem and Regional Nazim-e-Ala or Zaim-e-Aala. However, please feel free to contact me directly at any time if I can be of any assistance to you and can help facilitate your integration and participation in the activities of Majlis Ansarullah UK. The pages ahead are aimed to give you some basic information about Majlis Ansarullah including its early history and its organisational set up. May Allah bless this transition for you and may He ordain it as a glorious new chapter in your life. Ameen. Yours humbly, Dr Chaudhry Ijaz Ur Rehman Sadr Majlis Ansarullah UK sadr@ansar.org.uk 3

Early History Ḥadhrat Mirza Mahmud Ahmad, Khalifatul Masih II (may Allah be pleased with him) (1889-1965) formed a number of auxiliary organizations to promote the spirit of moral excellence of the members of Aḥmadiyya Muslim Community. These organizations were established to provide a specific framework for the ethical and religious education and training of different groups based on age and gender. Majlis Anṣarullah (helpers of Allah) was formed by Ḥadhrat Khalifatul Masih II (may Allah be pleased with him) in 1940; its members comprise all male Aḥmadi Muslims over the age of 40. Ḥaḍhrat Khalifatul Masih II (may Allah be pleased with him) outlined goals for the auxiliaries in these words: We have to reform the whole world. We have to bring the entire world to bow before God Almighty. Bring the entire world under the fold of Ahmadiyyat. Establish the Kingdom of God all over the world. But this grand task cannot be performed until all members of our community children, youth, or elderly organize themselves internally and follow this code of conduct day and night For this internal improvement and completion of organization, I have established the auxiliary organizations of Khuddamul Ahmadiyya, Ansarullah, Atfalul Ahmadiyya, and Nasiratul Ahmadiyya, Lajna Imaillah." (Al-Fazl, October 11, 1944) Aims & Objectives of Majlis Ansarullah To organise all the male Ahmadis above forty years and to inculcate the following: i. The love of Allah. ii. The spirit to promote and propagate the teachings of Islam. iii. The urge to preach Islam and serve mankind. iv. The spiritual and moral training of children. v. Self-sacrifice. vi. The spirit of protecting the institution of Khilafat. vii. The spirit of placing collective interests above individual interests. The Majlis shall purely be a religious organisation having no political interests whatsoever. 4

Flag of Majlis Ansarullah On the occasion of the [National] Annual Ijtema in 1956, Majlis Shura of Ansarullah made the following decision: Ansar should have their own flag and Alme Inami should be given [to the best performing Majlis] A sub-committee was formed to devise and develop the practical detail of implementing this decision. The following members were selected to serve [on this committee]: Sahibzada Hadhrat Mirza Nasir Ahmad Sahib, Maulana Jalaluddin Shams Sahib, Muhammad Shafeeh Sahib (Gujranwala), Chaudhry Sharif Ahmad Bajwa Sahib (Lyallpur), Mirza Daud Ahmad Sahib, and Maulana Abdul Ata a Sahib. The flag s design is shown below: Significance of Various Elements of the Flag of Ansarullah One quarter of the Ansarullah flag consists of a black section with a white full moon inside it. As described in the Ahadith, the flag of the Holy Prophet (May peace and blessings of Allah be on him) was black. Therefore, it is essential that a sub-ordinate flag of the Promised Messiah (May peace be on him) should be black as well. This is the reasoning behind selection of the black section for the flag of Ansarullah. Aside from the colour, a moon [on the black area] represents the claim of the Promised Messiah (May peace be on him) which manifested itself like the appearance of a full moon in the 14th Century [Hijra]. The remaining area of the white part of the flag represents piety, peace, enlightenment, and light, in much the same way as light and enlightenment are characterized by the white lines in the flag of Majlis Khuddamul Ahmadiyya. 5

Ansar Pledge The Ansar Pledge is a solemn promise to Allah to believe in Him and to follow His commandments and Those of His Prophet Muhammad (saw) and The Promised Messiah (as) and Khalifa-e-Ahmadiyya. It s also a promise to do all good and lead a moral life. On the occasion of the Annual Ijtema of Majlis Ansarullah held in Rabwah in Ocotober 1956, Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih II approved the following pledge for members of Majlis Ansarullah (Said three times) (ashhado al-lāilāha il-lallāho wahdahū laasharīkalahū wa ash hado anna Muhammadan abdohū warasūloh) I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allāh. He is One and has no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallum) is His servant and His messenger. I solemnly pledge that I shall endeavour throughout my life for the propagation and consolidation of Islam Ahmadiyyat, and for upholding the institution of Khilafat. I shall also be prepared to offer the greatest sacrifice for this cause. Moreover, I shall exhort my children to always remain dedicated and devoted to Khilafat. Insha allah. --- [Notice the emphasis that a Nasir now has to pay towards spreading Islam and strengthening Islam and also the additional responsibility of someone else i.e. our children.] 6

The Need for Majlis Ansarullah If people become inactive then officials are there to supervise them, and if the officials slacken, people are there to keep watch over them. Keeping this point in view, I instituted separate organizations of Khuddāmul Aḥmadiyya and Anṣārullāh, because I understand that at a time it may happen that governing officials become passive, and it can also happen that the public slackens. To remove their carelessness and to awaken people, Nāẓirs and others were there but it could also happen that sometime Nāẓirs are slackened and they do not perform their duties as desired. A system was needed in the Jamā at to awaken them which would remove their negligence, and would replace their negligence for the Jamā at. Thus, Khuddāmul-Aḥmadiyya, Anṣārullāh and Lajna Imā illāh are the beams of this system. They have been established to keep the system awake. - Friday Sermon delivered by Hazrat Khalīfatul Masīh II 22 October 1943 No person can remain out of these organizations with his own desire. Except that person who wishes to leave us to go his own way. Every person is ordered to be part of this organization [Majlis Ansārullāh]. - Hadhrat Khalīfatul Masīh II in Sabil-ur Rishaad page 19 Every male Ahmadī above the age of 40 years shall be a member of this Majlis. - Constitution of Majlis Ansārullāh All male members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association automatically join Majlis Ansarullah on 1st January after their 40th birthday. There are two subsections within the Majlis: Saf-e-Awwal comprises of members aged 55 years and above. Saf-e-Doem comprises of members below 55 years of age. Hadhrat Khaliftul Masih III (rm) set up the younger group in 1973 to encourage activity and participation from members coming from Khuddamul Ahmadiyya and to assist integration within Majlis Ansarullah. 7

Organisational Structure Sadr Majlis [National President] is elected by the National Majlis 'Amma [General Body] through Majlis Shura [Executive Body]. The Majlis Muqami shall be invited to propose names for the office of Sadr and this is presented as a list of nominees for approval by Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih. The Majalis shall hold general meetings at their own places to decide by a majority vote, to support one person in the aforementioned list as a nominee for the presidency and direct their representatives in Majlis Shura to vote for him at the time of election. These representatives cannot change their opinion and cannot vote for anyone else other than the person selected by their respective Majalis. Sadr Majlis and Naib Sadr Saf-e-Doem (Vice President looking after the members of Saf-e- Doem on behalf of Sadr Majlis) are elected for a period of two years by the National Majlise-Shura based on the aforementioned procedure. It is necessary that Naib Sadr Saf-e-Doem should not be above 47 years of age at the time of election. The National Amila (Executive) is appointed by Sadr Majlis after formal approval of Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih on a yearly basis. These consist of: Naib Sadr Awwal (Senior Vice President), Naib Sadraan (Vice Presidents), Qaideen (Heads of Departments), Auditor Naib Sadr Saf-e-Doem (elected Vice President), Muavin Sadraan Zaeem-e-Ala Muqami (similar to Mohtamim Muqami in MKA) Qiadats (Departments): Amoomi (General Secretary), Tarbiyyat (Moral Training), Tabligh (Preaching), Taleem (Education), Taleemul Quran (Quranic Education), Isaar (Social Service), Maal (Finance), Waqfe Jadid, Tehrike Jadid, Tajneed (Membership), Ishaat (Publications), Tarbiyyat Nau Muba een (Training for New Converts), Zehanat wa Sehate Jismani (Intellectual and Physical Health 8

The UK is divided into 130 Majalis, each headed by a Zaeem (Local Ansar President) who is elected by members of the local Majlis every two years. The UK has 15 Regions for administrative purposes. Each Region is headed by a Regional Nazim-e-Ala (Regional Ansar President) appointed by Sadr Majlis yearly. Finance Take note of the fact that there is not a single Movement in the world which can run without subscription. The subscription was collected during the periods of the Holy Prophet (saw), Hadhrat Musa(as) and Hazrat Isa (as) and all other Messengers. Therefore, it essential for members of my Jama at to be watchful of this obligation - Promised Messiah (as) Any member who is free from any financial constraints must pay this (ansar) chanda. - Hazrat Khalīfatul Masīh V Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih V (may Allah be his helper) has instructed that any member who does not pay Ansar Chanda cannot hold an office in Majlis Ansarullah. In addition, Hadhur (may Allah be his helper) advised that "It is mandatory for the office bearers of the Jamaat to pay their contribution both towards the relevant organization [Majlis Ansarullah or Khuddamul Ahmadiyya] and also give the obligatory Jamaati Chandas". The Financial Year of Majlis Ansarullah begins on January 1st and ends on December 31st. Those who are unable to pay at prescribed rate can request a rate-reduction from Sadr Majlis through the local Zaeem. To participate in elections, members must not be in arrears of a) Chanda Aam or Wasiyyat for more than six months b) Ansar Chanda for more than six months and c) Jalsa Salana Chanda and Ijtema Chanda for more than one year. 10

Prescribed rates of Chanda for members: Ansar Chanda: 1% of one month s net (take home) income Ijtema Chanda: 12.5% of Ansar Chanda (2.5% of one month s take home income to be paid once a year or 15 per year, whichever is higher) Publication Chanda: 5 per year Examples: Net Pay Ansar Chanda Ijtema Chanda Total 1,000/month 10/month 1.25/month 11.25/month 2,000/month 20/month 2.50/month 20.50/month 3,000/month 30/month 3.75/month 33.75/month 4,000/month 40/month 5.00/month 45.00/month Chanda should be paid to Muntazim Finance (or Zaeem) on a regular basis, or by Standing Order, or in a lump sum during first half of the year. Key Extract from Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih V (May Allah be his Helper) Friday Sermon in regards to The National Ansarullah Ijtema 2017 (29 th September 2017) Today, by the Grace of Allah, the Annual Ijtema of Majlis Ansarullah UK is commencing. In this respect, I wish to draw the attention of the ansar to an extremely important but fundamental matter. And that is salaat [prayer]. Salaat is obligatory upon every believer. However, after the age of 40, one should have developed an increased sense of awareness [of the fact] that with the passing of each day, one's life is decreasing. Thus, every believer; everyone, who believes in the life after death and the Last Day, should be fully focussed on fulfilling the rights of Allah the Almighty as well as the rights of His servants. Allah the Almighty has emphasised on regularity in salaat, timely observance of all the prayers in congregation. The commandment is of qiyam-us salaat [observing the prayer] and 'qiyamus salaat literally means to observe salaat on time and in congregation. Thus, Ansarullah should pay the most attention towards this, that each member is regular in congregational prayers. Rather, every nasir should himself analyse his state and endeavour to become regular in congregational prayers. One should undertake the utmost effort to observe prayers in congregation mainly in the mosque, salaat centre or if this is not possible, then with the members of the household. This will also develop an awareness regarding congregational prayers amongst the children and the youth. The Promised Messiah (as) has stated that the weapon, which shall lead us to victory is prayer. Thus, in order to become Ansarullah, it is necessary to use this weapon of prayer. The Promised Messiah (as) says: 'If you fail to heed to my words and do not infuse a pious reformation in you, it is worthless entering into my Bai'at (oath of allegiance).
