Holy Spirit Parish HOLY SPIRIT PARISH PASSOVER SEDER Thursday, March 22 at 6 PM in St. Mary s Church Hall FMI: Marla Blackwell, 467-0956 The festival of Passover and the Seder, in particular, celebrate the Jews independence as a people who went from slavery to freedom, and from belonging to redemption. Through the Seder, the story of the people of Israel is passed on from one generation to the next. It is a story not only of slavery and the bitterness of life but, also, a story of the dignity of Israel and its choice by God as His chosen people. Come and hear the story! You will enjoy an evening filled with prayer, song, fun, and food. Sign up in the narthex, and a place with all the traditional foods will be set for you. Please bring a covered main dish (no pork) or a dessert. STATIONS OF THE CROSS Fridays, March 9 & March 16, Stations at St. Mary s in Wells will be at 12 Noon, followed by a Lenten luncheon. Stations at St. Martha s in Kennebunk will be at 6 PM, preceded by a Lenten supper at 5 PM. Friday, March 23, Live Stations of the Cross will take place at St. Mary s at 6:30 PM. Good Friday, March 30, Stations of the Cross will take place at both churches at 3 PM. Good Friday, March 30, is a day of fast and abstinence (from meat) in the universal Church. All Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence (from meat) in the Church in the United States. March 29: Thursday of the Lord s Supper, 7 PM at St. Martha s March 30: Friday of the Passion of the Lord, 7 PM at St. Martha s March 31: The Easter Vigil in the Holy Night, 8 PM at St. Mary s...is a way for Catholics to live Lent. The program provides an opportunity for us to live in solidarity with our poorest and most vulnerable brothers and sisters through the three Lenten pillars of praying, fasting, and almsgiving. When we put money in our rice bowls, we are making a difference. What we give for Lent might change lives! Rice bowls will be available throughout most of the Lenten season. The Law of Abstinence - Binds Catholics aged 14 and older. The Law of Fasting - Binds Catholics aged 18 and over, until the beginning of their 60th year (through age 59). This Sunday 2

GOSPEL MEDITATION March 11, 2018 4th Sunday of Lent "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish, but might have eternal life." But if Christ has come, why is the world so challenging? Why is the world still, to our eyes, being carried off in a proverbial hand basket? Jesus' response is a deeply personal one. "This is the verdict, that the light came into the world, but people preferred darkness to light." Patterns arise, habits are formed, and systems become engrained, but each is the result of an interconnected web of human choices. Where do we stand? Our answers, perhaps, vary from week to week, hour to hour, missed traffic light to spilled coffee to teenage child's rebellion. The world isn't perfect because we aren't perfect. Our parish is flawed because we're flawed. Our families need work because every one of us needs to be converted. Christianity is a process, not a destination! This Sunday, Jesus invites us to consider our own lives. Where in our own lives do we prefer darkness to light? What flaws are we trying to hide? Humbly acknowledge those places today. Ask God for the grace to be transformed. Share with your spouse or a friend where you'd like to improve this week. "Whoever loves truth comes to the light, so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God."
