Gospel Of John Treasure Hunt - 7 1. John, the author of the Gospel of John, was one of the 12 Disciples of Jesus. He was one of Jesusʼ three closest friends along with Peter and James. Out of the Inner three he was probably the one with the closest relationship with Jesus. He is also called John the Beloved Disciple and John the Evangelist. 2. John wrote five books in the New Testament, more than anyone else except Paul. He wrote the Gospel Of John, 1 John, 2 John, 3 John, and the Book of Revelation. John wrote the Book of Revelation while banished to the isle of Patmos. The most popular view is that this happened during the reign of the Emperor Domitian. John was the brother of James who was later to be called James the Greater. John was the son of Zebedee and Salome. It is possible that Salome was a sister of Mary the mother of Jesus.
