Friday, June 20, 2014 1:30 to 3:00pm 1-01 History of the Catholic Church in Hawaii Patrick Downes What was it like for those who came before us, setting the foundation and establishing the Church as we know it today? E komo mai. Come, and learn about our history and traditions of OUR Church in Hawai i. 1-02 The Jesuit Approach to Most Anything Kristina DeNeve, PhD. The Society of Jesus is the largest religious order in the world, including Pope Francis among its members. Join us for a primer on the spirituality of the Jesuits, a spirituality that has influenced countless saints, our current pope, and thousands of Catholics today. 1-03 Getting More Out of Mass Deacon Modesto Cordero Get more meaning out of our Sacred Liturgy by walking through the Mass from beginning to end. Facing angry people, delivering bad news, critiquing or being criticized--these are all challenging ministry situations. This session will teach you how to prepare for these difficult conversations, stay focused during the conflict, and avoid five potential conflict traps. 1-06 Misunderstandings and Truths: Ministering on the Topic of Homosexuality Fr. Gary Secor This workshop provides participants with an introduction and overview of the Church s teaching on homosexuality and brings clarity to misconceptions on the topic. Participants will also be presented with some practical, pastoral approaches to this topic in their ministry.

Catechists earn credit for CC111 2-02 Following in the Footsteps of St. Damien: A 90-Minute Retreat Sr. Helene Wood Join us in the midst of your daily life, in the middle of this conference, for a 90-minute retreat inspired by the life and ministry of St. Damien of Molokai. 2-03 Facebook Faith: Doing Ministry from Your iphone Sr. CC Cabral, Merelyn Lubong and Lisa Gomes This hands-on workshop will help you begin using your Facebook account for evangelization and faith formation. Participants should be familiar with common Facebook features like tagging, sharing, commenting and liking posts/pages. Make sure to bring your favorite mobile device! 2-04 Many Faces in God s House Malu Kamanu and Kathy Lee How can we minister effectively with all of the cultural groups represented within our parish communities? Participants will explore the importance of creating room for all the cultural differences while maintaining unity within diversity. 2-05 At the Crossroads: Balancing Faith and Politics Eva Andrade What is church teaching on when and how our faith should intersect with politics? How are we to deal with separation of church and state? This session will offer specific guidelines that will inspire rather than guilt you! Friday, June 20, 2014 6:00pm to 7:30pm 3-01 Meeting Jesus @ the Movies! Sr. Fay Josephine Pele Cinema provides marvelous opportunities to help ourselves and others meet Jesus in daily life. This very visual and practical presentation will look at a variety of film clips from major motion pictures through the lens of the Gospels, offering suggestions and authentic experiences of cinema divena. 3-02 Challenging Men to the Radical Adventure of God s Will Bear Woznick It s time for us men to abandon ourselves to the wild adventure of God's will. Learn the 20/20/20 rule for big wave surfing and use it as a means to challenge ourselves to a pattern of prayer with God. This session is offered for men 18 and older. 3-03 Go Ask Your Father. Talking with Teens about Tough Topics Diocesan Seminarian EJ Resinto How do we talk to teens about moral issues? This class is designed for an adult audience to help you become more comfortable sharing a powerful and liberating understanding of living as a child of God, following the moral teachings of Scripture, Tradition, and Holy Church and seeking incessantly to build virtue in our lives.

See what the diocese has planned to support stewardship and learn more about the patron saints of this way of life. 5-06 Catechizing Special Needs Students Panel led by Leolinda Parlin This expert panel will provide catechists access to leaders in their respective fields to answer questions about intellectual/developmental disabilities, positive behavior supports, strategies appealing to different types of learners and sharing by a self-advocate with disabilities. Catechists earn credit for track II course.

Fay Pabo Bring your musical instrument(s) and/or singing voices to PLAY & SING with us in praise and worship. We will PRAY together and share our Paschal Mystery experiences of Liturgy. Learn (review for some!) the importance of music in Liturgy as well as the liturgical, musical, and pastoral considerations when selecting the most appropriate songs for Liturgies. 6-03 Challenging Conversations: Working Through Ministerial Conflicts Kaala Souza Challenging conversations are not only difficult, they're often scary! This course will provide a brief history and definition of servant leadership, share characteristics of a servant leader, and provide examples of saints who modeled this leadership style through their words and actions. 6-05 The Seven Sacraments of the Church Malu Kamanu and Kathy Lee This session is an introductory overview of the seven sacraments. Studying the sacraments is an essential part of understanding the relationship of Christ and the Church. Encounter Christ today in a full and real way in and through the Sacraments!
