All Saints Day November 1, 2015 Sacred Heart, Manchester St. John the Baptist, Essex CORI Month What is CORI? CORI stands for criminal offender record information. Who needs to complete a CORI? All of Sacred Heart and St. John the Baptist clergy, staff and ministry volunteers, including hospital ministry volunteers are required to fill out a yearly CORI form. What is needed for a CORI? CORI s require that all individuals provide their driver s license number and the last 6 digits of their Social Security number. When are CORI s done? A parish representative will be available to verify identifications and assist with completing the form in the rear of our churches during the next few weekends at the Masses. Thank you for your cooperation and for keeping the pledge to protect those among us who are most vulnerable. WHAT COULD BE BETTER AN EXCUSE TO BUY A NEW WINTER COAT WHILE HELPING YOUR NEIGHBORS IN NEED! Warm Coats for a Cold Winter will run from October 24th through November 8 th. The Knights of Columbus ask parishioners of Sacred Heart and St. John, as well as all residents of Cape Ann, to donate new and slightly used coats, jackets, windbreakers and foul weather gear for men, women and children of all ages to be given to those in need through Catholic Charities. Last year, we collected over 70 coats and every one of them went to good use. So take this opportunity to help out those less fortunate by donating what you have, and you ll feel good about refreshing your family s winter wardrobe! Look for the coat rack with hangers in the back of each church labelled K of C Coat Drive. Thanks in advance for your help! Christmas Fair Country Table Christmas Fair morning group. Join us Thursday mornings from 9-12 in the church hall. We will be making items for the Fair. You do not need to be crafty. We are making ornaments, baby fleece blankets, book marks and more. Do you have a craft you d like to share? We are open to new ideas. All are welcome to come help. We will have coffee tea and a snack. All Saints Day November 1, 2015 Sacred Heart, Manchester St. John the Baptist, Essex Memorial Mass for the Deceased of the Parish On Saturday, November 7, the 5:30 Mass at Sacred Heart Church will be celebrated for all those who have died especially those whose funerals were celebrated in the past year at Sacred Heart. On Sunday, November 8, the 10:00 Mass at St. John the Baptist Church will be for those whose funerals were celebrated at St. John s and for all the deceased loved ones of the parish. During these Masses we will call to mind those who we have buried and light a candle as a reminder of how they brought the light of Christ into our lives. In the rear of the churches are picture frames. You are invited to take on home and bring it back with the picture of a loved one or loved ones for whom you mourn. It maybe a recent death or one that occurred a while ago. These pictures will be place on the side altars of the churches during November as a way of calling to mind and praying for our deceased loved ones. Please put your name and contact information on the rear of the frame, so we can see that your picture is returned. St. John the Baptist Christmas Fair Saturday, November 21, 2015 9:00 am to 4:00 pm What a great way to start your Christmas shopping! There will be Bake Goods, Boxwood Trees, Christmas tree decorations, Raffle Choices, and a yummy lunch served as well! Fr. Paul will be drawing the winning ticket for the Cash Prizes after the 10:00 Mass and tickets will be available for $2.00 each the day of the drawing. All Saints Day November 1, 2015 Sacred Heart, Manchester St. John the Baptist, Essex RCIA RCIA Conversations will be on Sunday, November 1 at Sacred Heart Rectory after the 8:30 am Mass. If you know of anyone who would like information about completing their sacraments or becoming a Catholic, please join us at this meeting. Women of the Well - All women from both Sacred Heart and St. John the Baptist are WELCOME! We never tire of encouraging any woman interested in further exploring her spiritual journey to join us at The Well some Saturday morning and do so in the company of others. We meet in St John's rectory from 7:30 - no later than 9:00 AM each Saturday. Come when you can. Bring a friend if you choose. We'd love to have you join us! Weekly After-Mass Social Visitors and Parishioners, please join us for the weekly social each week after the 8:30 am mass. We have great food and great conversation. This is a great way to become part of the community and for the community to flourish. Beginning in May, we will begin to have social on the church lawn for the summer months. (In inclement weather, we will still have social inside the Parish Hall). Join us each week even if only for a few minutes. You are part of the community, so your presence is very important to us! Mary s Circle Mary s Circle has begun! Please consider joining this faith formation community as we explore God, the precepts of our Faith, how our Faith connects to our lives, and other 'questions of the universe'...we share conversation, coffee (or tea), and confections...as our thought provoking conversations revolve around matters of our faith. Please extend an invitation to someone you know who might be interested in a women centered, faith-sharing group. We have read books, had guest speakers, and enjoyed a couple of social gatherings...please consider this a personal invitation to join this group of faith-filled women as we explore the different aspects of our faith and how it connects to us in relevant and familiar ways. Prayer Shawl Ministry Our ministry continues to knit and crochet beautiful shawls and we have given away over 60 shawls. Shawls have been shared with loved ones overseas, across the country, and across town. We love being able to give them away to those who seek comfort. Whether it is a physical illness, a psychological situation, or you know someone who is suffering from a loss of any kind, why not bring him or her a Prayer Shawl? Prayers and blessings for their needs will surround and comfort them. We are continue to knit and crochet these shawls in our homes and together, once a month at the Sacred Heart Rectory. If you know anyone who would like a prayer shawl please let us know. You may contact Chris at the parish office or Gloria Landy, Jane Shaw, Eleanor Hatcher, Sally O Malley, Ann Nadeau, Eileen Hardy, Kathy Anderson, Paige Donohoe, Dorothy Jodice, Ann Henrickson, or Barbara Stasium. The Prayer Shawl ministry meets on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 4PM in the Sacred Heart Rectory. If you cannot join our ministry, please consider donating money, yarn (preferably soft yarn), or gift bags (to distribute them in). All donations are graciously accepted. We are always looking for more knitters and crochet ers! Experience is not required. Please consider being a part of this ministry. Consider joining us, or making one in the privacy of your home. We have easy to follow patterns. Ministry to the Homebound and Sick Ministry to the Homebound and Sick continues to bring Eucharist to those who cannot make it to Mass. We have an awesome, faith-filled team dedicated to this ministry. Please let us know if you are aware of someone ill, homebound, or alone that would like to receive Eucharist, or a short visit from a fellow parishioner, please contact Chris at the Parish Office and we will make arrangements. Baptism Prep Classes Baptism preparation classes are being held in the Chapel at Sacred Heart Church and is currently offered the fourth Thursday of the month at 7:00PM. Please contact the office to make your reservation. These classes are designed for parents and godparents of children about to be baptized. The goal of the class is to help parents become aware of the theological and historical reasons for baptizing your child and the significance of Baptism as a beginning, not an end, to a lifelong commitment. The one hour class explores the purpose of Baptism from both a spiritual and practical standpoint. Ministry of Consolation Our parish has a group of volunteers willing to sit and talk with someone after a loss. Please contact Chris at the parish office to schedule a time to meet. 6
