Hope for American and Haitian Youth and the Elderly (HOHAYE) 2613 Brnot Ave. Waukegan. IL 60087 www.hohaye.org. Email hohaye@mail.com (224) 772-7379 Haiti Hurricane Matthews Relief Report November 6, 2016 On behalf of HOHAYE I would like to thank each and every one of you who have contributed to the relief effort. As you know, on October 4 th, hurricane Matthews, a category 4 hurricane, made its way through the south, southeast, Nippes and Grand Anse of Haiti. Although the earthquake six years ago caused more deaths, this category 4 earthquake has left the above regions useless and hopeless. Everything is basically destroyed. People have lost their entire houses, crops and livestock. Thank God for Friends like You! I could never do what I did if it were not for friends like you. Your phone calls, prayers and financial support were extremely well received. I am grateful to Faith Bible Church, Jesus Name Apostolic Church, Shiloh Baptist Church, Dr. Roni Mattai, Roslyn Snow, Germanie Chery, Daniel Jean and Olga Djung for their financial support. All together you have pitched in six thousand ($6000.00) dollars. Your donation allowed me to buy an airline ticket for $920.00. I took two bags of clothes given by Lake County Baptist School and Rogers Park Baptist Church. I am Grateful to So Send I You in New York Dr. Joe Bush from So Send I You in New York sent brother James Norman to Haiti to assist us and to take videos and pictures. We arrived in Haiti the same day, October 21 st and returned on the 26 th. Action time Before I left for Haiti, I asked God to guide and protect. I paid particular attention to members of my church and people in the community whose parents have lost their homes. 1. Pastor Laine and his wife are founding members of HOHAYE and they had many friends affected by the hurricane in the southern part of Haiti. HOHAYE donated $300.00 to their effort to collect funds to help. 2. A member of my church had a brother who lost his little house in Petit Goave. We pitched in $300.00 to help out. 3. A sister who lives in Lake County received $100.00 to help her mother in Haiti who also lost her home.
4. When we arrived in Haiti, fafale Douge, an unpaid worker of HOHAYE whose mother was stuck in Jeremie, the area most touched by the hurricane, received $300.00 from us to help her mother. 5. Around our Leadership Center, there were a lot of people who had their parents affected in the remote areas, we helped as we saw fit. 6. On Saturday October 22 nd, we met as a team of six to pray and plan for our journey to the south. I made it clear to the team that there will be no partiality. We will go to Cayes on Sunday morning, weather permitting, but we will help according to needs and not by preferences. The team agreed. We rented my nephew s SUV and left at 5:00 AM on Sunday morning. We drove 87 kilometers south of Port au Prince but a river was in crest and did not allow us to arrive at Cayes. We decided to enter the closest city, which was Cavaillon. The Lord Was Kind to Us 7. We entered Cavaillon not knowing what was going to happen but the Lord came through. I could not believe what I saw: total devastation of a city. The river had left its bank to inundate the entire city. It was the same river we were not able to cross. The Lord miraculously put the mayor of the city in our path. He drove us around as we were bewildered by this natural devastation. We went to two tents and distributed to the people clothes, toiletries and money. We could not take pictures of the money given for fear that other people would see us and we would run out of funds. We had to do it wisely.
There is one lady however that we were able to take her picture because of her situation. Her arm was broken as she tried to run for cover during the hurricane. For 2 weeks she was not able to go to a hospital because of money. We gave her $300.00 and she immediately went to a nearby hospital for care.
We also gave $1000.00 to help a church (Eglise Evangelique Baptiste MEBSH de Valbrune) that has a school in it where the roof of three of the classrooms was taken away by the hurricane. See pictures here.
We have more pictures available. If you want to make a presentation in your church I can always provide you with more. These are the two pastors of this church Because of your generosity we were able to add two more rows of cemented blocks to the guest house rooftop just to protect the facility against future hurricanes. I want to thank all of you who made this trip a success. May God richly bless you! Our Goal
1. To buy a school bus as soon as possible to ship supplies to Haiti. Our goal is to raise $18,000.00 for this project. We have raised $10,000.00 so far through Tabernacle Community Baptist Church of Milwaukee. 2. We would like to raise some money to replace the roof of Eglise Evangelique Baptiste Jean 3:16 of Valbrune, Cavaillon. Since the hurricane they have been meeting in a school on Sundays. In Christ, Reverend Jean F Valdemar
