She says it was a pleasure to coach the team and that the children made the season a lot of fun. She s looking forward to next year! Thank you, too, Coach Weinstein! In alumni news, graduating Seattle Prep senior Patrick Paulsen was a Finalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program. He scored in the top 1% of the more than one-and-a-half million juniors who took the PSAT in 2014. Patrick also received a Department Award for Academic Excellence in Social Studies. In other School Awards and Recognitions at Prep, Iris Thatcher was noted for Community Ministry and Alex Martin was noted for Publications. We congratulate all of our former OLF School students who were confirmed this past week. This is such an important part of one's faith journey, and we are proud of you all. WELCOME DESK VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Volunteers are needed to help out at the Welcome Desk after the weekend Masses, especially after the Saturday 5pm and Sunday 10:30am Mass. PARISH EVENTS THIS WEEK May 29 June 5 Sun 8:30am Mass, Church 10:30am Mass, Church Mon 9am Daily Mass, Church Parish Office closed for Memorial Day Holiday Tues 9am Communion Service, Church Wed 9am Daily Mass, Church Thurs 9am Daily Mass, Church 7-9pm, Choir Practice, Church Fri 9am Daily Mass, Church 9:30am 12noon, First Friday Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament Sat 9am Daily Mass, Church 4pm, Family Choir Rehearsal 5pm, Sunday Vigil Mass, Church 6pm, BBQ for Susan Burdett, Gymnasium Sun 8:30am Mass, Church 10:30am Mass, Church St. Joseph, St. Mary, and Jesus on the crucifix are being refurbished and will return to our church in several weeks. This might be a good time to remind ourselves why we have these images in our church. The Bishops document, Built of Living Stones, sets out the policy for church art and architecture. Paragraph 91 states: The cross with the image of Christ crucified is a reminder of Christ's paschal mystery. It draws us into the mystery of suffering and makes tangible our belief that our suffering when united with the passion and death of Christ leads to redemption. Regarding other images it says: Reflecting the awareness of the Communion of Saints, the practice of incorporating symbols of the Trinity, images of Christ, the Blessed Mother, the angels, and the saints into the design of a church creates a source of devotion and prayer for a parish community and should be part of the design of the church. Images can be found in stained glass windows, on wall frescos and murals, and as statues and icons. Often these images depict scenes from the bible or from the lives of the saints and can be a source of instruction and catechesis as well as devotion. Since the Eucharist unites the Body of Christ, including those who are not physically present, the use of images in the church reminds us that we are joined to all who have gone before us, as well as to those who now surround us. 135

The Most Holy Body And Blood of Christ Page 4 May 29, 2016 ATTENTION ALL CATHOLIC YOUNG MEN AGES 13-18... Do you know where your life is going? The Lord Jesus has a great plan for you! You are invited to attend Quo Vadis Days camp to spend time with other young men your age looking at the Lord s call in your life while having a great time. QVD is led by priests and seminarians of the Archdiocese. QVD will be held from June 26th June 28th at Camp Don Bosco near Carnation, WA. The cost of the camp is FREE covered by the generosity of the Serra Club, Knights of Columbus, and private donors. Please check us out at www.qvdays.org if you are interested. All registration is online! TENT CITY 5 Our neighbors, Interbay Tent City (TC5), currently need blocks of ice, and propane for cooking - 2 blocks will last for 3 days. They would appreciate QFC gift cards, which should be given to a TC5 onsite supervisor. Additionally, U-Haul has an account for filling TC5 propane tanks. Please stop by Tent City for more information and/ or a tour of the community. I do not believe the promises of the Declaration of Independence are just for the strong, the independent, the healthy. They are for everyone-including unborn children. George W. Bush PALISADES RETREAT CENTER "Habits of a Very Loving Marriage" Married Couples' Enrichment Retreat Fr. Pat Freitag - June 3-5, 2016 Consider this marriage enrichment retreat as an extended date-night, the chance to get away together and talk without the distractions and demands of everyday life. The "Habits of a Very Loving Marriage" seminar is based on Stephen R. Covey's No. 1 bestseller The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and The Five Love Languages by Dr. Gary Chapman. This marriage workshop offers a framework for applying a universal, self-discovery approach that enables couples to communicate successfully.
