E Attitudes In Emmaus, there are some qualities and actions that make our community more Christ-like and loving. I call them E-attitude, Emmaus attitudes. They are the attitudes that many in the Emmaus community demonstrate so well. Here are a few. You can add others. -Live close to Christ. Christ is the true north in the compass of faith. Point your life toward Christ -Be a servant. The true quality of Emmaus is the servant s heart. -Show gratitude. Life and salvation have come from God. Be a grateful Christian. Fred Woolsey FCE Community Spiritual Director As my three years on the board as Kitchen Coordinator comes to an end, I look back on all the friends that I have made. Not in my wildest thoughts would I have gone beyond my comfort zone to make sure food was being prepared for 50 plus people. But, I didn t do it alone. I had the help of many people, as we call them angels. I was scared to tears the first walk I had to prepare for. I was very new to the Emmaus community and didn t really know what I was getting into. The cook teams were in place. The Middleburg United Methodist team headed up by Cameron Trotman was a definite for the men spring walks, but I had difficulty in finding a dining room coordinator. But as faith has it, the angel, Debbie Frendahl from Orange Park United Methodist came forward to help me. Her and her groupies have been right there whenever I was in need. Each and every one of the cook teams did a fabulous job. Middleburg United Methodist women s team headed by Trish Gibson and her family always did a spectacular job. In addition to the spring walks there are the fall men s walk with the cook team headed up by Bob Carter. Let s not forget the fall women s walk with the cook team headed up by Orange Park United Methodist with Connie Eden in charge. As my time on the board grew near to an end, I worked hard at convincing everyone I knew that they were

Professional Musicians Have you ever noticed that professional musicians rarely have any music in front of them? I used to think that they had some kind of prompter that they used to see the music, but if they do, they rarely look at it. Professionals don t look down at music or teleprompters; they look up, at you, the audience. That is what really engages you as a participant in the hearing of the music. How do they do that? Well, it s simple, they practice! Yep it s that simple. If they play the song enough times, they remember both the lyrics and the correct chords, as well as the cadence, or timing, and any special bars where they don t play, or play quieter or louder. It comes as second nature when they practice enough. When we do music for Emmaus, most of the musicians are seeing the music for the very first time at the point we take the stage and begin playing. Although you guys are very gracious, and allow us our faux paus and miscues and total mess ups without too much complaining, we still muddle through and somehow, by the grace of God, play music that somewhat resembles the original manner in which the author intended. Isn t God s Word somewhat the same? As we go through life, if we practice and rehearse His Word through study and discussions in Bible classes, we become more professional at being Christians. Through study we get a chance to not only know the nature of God (his music), but we learn how He intends for us to act and live our lives (how He intends for the piece to be played). I would recommend that we not look at the music for the first time when we get up on the heavenly stage. Let s rehearse God s Word every day, and practice it through our actions on a regular basis. Let s all strive to become professionals in our faith so we can look up to our audience and play the song the way God intended. De Colores, Paul Frendahl FCE Music Coordinator Growth Through Study an easy topic for a teacher with 36 years in the classroom.not. I have struggled with finding the time for Christian Study for the past 20 years. Every now and then I fool myself that I am faithful because I watched the latest documentary on Christianity on The History Channel, PBS or Discovery. I can find time to watch the TV, play games on Facebook and read things on line but I neglect to spend regular time reading for my spirituality. I m so bad about it that the Lord has called me to give the Talk on this theme twice during Emmaus Weekends. Apparently I m as stiff necked as the ol Israelites because it is still an issue for me. I am getting better by baby steps however. I read the Upper Room daily (I had to make the Devotional my homepage at work and home so I didn t forget) and I ve gotten back to listening to Christian radio thanks to Pandora on the cell phone. I just discovered a book I bought over a year ago that I plan on starting this weekend. If you struggle with finding the time for study you re not alone. Joel Douthett FCE Men s Team Selection right for the position. I had given up when I got a phone call when I was in San Antonio, Texas on a buying trip from another angel, Kathy Wray. She said she had been ignoring God talking to her and that she finally gave in to listening to him and came forward to take over the position as the Kitchen Coordinator for the Emmaus walks. We voted on two new positions on the board as, one of course was for Kitchen Coordinator as Kathy was voted in. I am proud and excited to say that it is now time for me to pass the torch. Welcome aboard Kathy Wray!!! DeColores! Anita Simpson FCE Kitchen Coordinator

And blessings to you in your fourth day. My name is Harry Mills and I am your Reunion Group Representative for your Emmaus Community, I attended Florida Crown Emmaus # 35 where I sat at the table of Peter. It is an honor and a pleasure to, serve and fellowship with my Christian brothers and sisters in Christ. I look forward to helping and assisting you in 2013 and your 4 th day. I will never forget the moment at my closing at Southside United Methodist Church when we were asked to respond to the questions that we were asked. Looking into the audience that day, I was able to see the faces of Christ glowing with each individual, working together as the Body of Christ. I have always been a visual learner. The visual picture of that moment of seeing all the people sharing their spiritual gifts was a reminder for me to be humble and share that servant spirit with others. Let me share my personal experience with small reunion groups. The first reunion I was asked to join was with my local church members. We met weekly at Shoney`s and we experienced weekly the joy ad blessings that we once shared together on our walk.. The weekly reunion group meetings help me grow in my spiritual walk and my 4 th day. Several years later I joined another small reunion group which was composed of different faiths and 4 th day Communities. Several of the clergy and men in this fellowship in this group had been sharing for 20-30 years. It was a wonderful experience sharing with clergy and laity from different faiths the accountability within this group helped me grow in spiritual wisdom & knowledge. Today I am involved with two small reunion groups who meet weekly at Starbucks and a local restaurant called Tasty. Another group that has humbled me in my life has been to serve in Kairos at Columbia Correctional Institute in Lake City. For over 12 years I have been part of the monthly interdenominational 4 th day servants who come together from all over North Florida to serve fellowship and establish small reunion groups. I have found that successful groups often form among persons who do not really know one another but who build new friendships based on their common desire to live as accountable Christians. Some persons actually prefer the freedom they experience when meeting with persons they do not relate to in other contexts. Remember; Where two or more are gathered in my name, I am there among them. Matthew 18:20 As we begin to start the year 2013 we want to work together as a team to make Florida Crown Emmaus a vibrant and growing community. This would be a great opportunity for you to serve and be a part of the community. Reunion coordinators from each church or local community are needed to help and establish new groups and help locate groups who have openings and want to add to their group. Would you like to help serve as a church or local reunion coordinator? We are asking you to pray about serving. If you re spiritual gifts are hospitality and connecting with people you will have the right fit. If you should take on the challenge of being a church or local reunion coordinator, you will be blessed and find joy by helping others to find reunion groups. Please feel free to contact me as we work together to build our Emmaus community I look forward to hearing from you. DeColores Harry Mills. FCE Reunion Groups Coordinator e-mail HLMFB@AOL.COM
