It doesn t seem possible that we could be talking about a spring meeting while we are in the middle of winter, but it is just around the corner. Plan to attend our Spring Meeting on Saturday, April 13 at the Windfall UM Church. We will have an overview of Conference UMW guidelines for 2013 Local Organizations and Officer duties. This is your organization s opportunity to learn of new ways we can be in mission and celebrate past endeavors. I received a letter from the Midwest Mission Distribution Center (MMDC) thanking the North Central UMW District s contribution of school bags and school supplies in fall of 2012. These items help provide aid to people who are experiencing poverty or other devastating events in their lives. Thank you to each of the UMW ladies in North Central District for your generosity. Remember whatever you do for the least of these you have done it for our Lord. Yours in Christ, Connie Pearson, NC District President 317-758-5344 or 317-697-8550 Connie_pearson42@yahoo.com Treasurer Notice! The Executive Committee was recently notified that Connie Wood will be unable to serve as our District Treasurer for 2013. In order to avoid delay in filling this important office, Marilyn Chittick will fill this position. Although new to this office, Marilyn brings plenty of experience to the job, having served Frankfort as Clerk Treasurer for 20 years. North Central Connection 2 March 2013 NC Districts Secretaries I hope that 2013 has gotten off to a good start for all of you. Some of you may be like me, and not make a New Year s Resolution or at least keep them for very long if one is made. I usually make the same resolution year after year, and I start out pretty good in keeping with it but usually by summer it is completely derailed. Two that are favorites of mine, I ll create a better schedule for my morning/daily routine and My list of fun home projects that I start I will actually get finished Those of you who ve had children or still do have children at home can relate. Making sure the morning goes smoothly and on time is a big deal. Starting projects, like scrapbooking, many times start with a lot of enthusiasm and a plan, but may not get completely finished because other important things pop up. The morning routine seems to set the tone for how the rest of the day will be managed or how chaotic it may become and still get everything done on the to do list. Just before the holiday season began, I realized that I was behind schedule on a very important to do list item. It was the task of requesting the 2013 officer lists from the local units and getting the information submitted mid-december so that the directory could be updated and printed in January. So I added this task to my daily routine during November and December by making phone calls, sending emails and personal letters to officers I had on file from 2012 and setting out to complete it. And within a few weeks time, just ahead of the deadline, I was able to submit updated 2013 officer lists for the local units in the North Central District. I want to extend a big thank you to all who helped me getting updated lists and contact names submitted for the 2013Indiana UMW directory. My morning routine is still on track with a few revisions, and only a few bumps in the road with winter weather and school delays, but so far, my ability to keep on task and on schedule has been a blessing in maintaining smooth mornings with less chaos. And completing fun projects is still on the to do list.digital photos are still waiting to be printed, cropped and glued Blessings in Christ, Emily Otto-Tice, Secretary 5023 S 900 W, Tipton 46072 etice2003@gmail.com A New Year, A New Job As your vice-president one of my responsibilities is to organize the spring and fall meetings for our district. Please plan on attending the spring leadership meeting April 13, 2013 as I proudly showcase my home church, Windfall United Methodist Church. I am in the hunting a location for our fall meeting on September 28, 2013. We listened to your comments and the fall meeting is moving back to Saturday. If you would like to be the host church please contact me. By the way, as the retiring E & I mission coordinator I am still accepting Mission Today unit reporting forms for 2012. If you sent yours to the new coordinator not to worry, we will handle that. Change, a constant in the life God gives us. Brenda Crawford, Vice-President PO Box 21, Windfall, IN 46076-0021 (765) 437-4576 cell (765) 945-7033 home nbcraw@yahoo.com (subject line please put UMW) Membership, Nurture, and Outreach My greetings to all local UMW units as 2013 begins to look like a more natural number on the calendar. My inaugural message to all women in the United Methodist Church is that regardless of the size or status of your UMW group, you are considered a part of the UMW family. You are welcomed at all District and Conference functions. We wish to include you in all mailings and communications efforts of the District. In other words, we want you in the loop! Large, small, or inactive our family of United Methodist Women performs critical outreach through local and global missions. It is only through our connectivity that we can continue to make a difference in the world. So, please make sure we have all pertinent information for our records, so we can keep in touch with you. Terhune UMC is my home church, where I have served as the Chair of the Administrative Council, taught Sunday School, and have done our church newsletter for many years. You may contact me at nboone17@yahoo.com, phone 317-758-4868, or by mail at 7775 N 900 E, Sheridan, IN 46069. I look forward to new friendships and new experiences with this office. Nancy Boone (See contact information above)

North Central Connection 3 March 2013 Important Notes from Nominating We have had to make a few adjustments in our 2013 officers. Please see the list on page 6 for our current officers. Particularly note our new Treasurer will be Marilyn Chittick, with Beth McDaniels taking over as Nominating Chair for the rest of 2013. We regret that Judy Creviston has informed the Board that she will be resigning her position as Education and Interpretation Coordinator. I would be pleased to hear from anyone interested in this position. Please email or phone me for more information. We are also looking for three UMW members to fill the open positions on the District Nominating Committee. This is an opportunity for your unit to have a voice in filling the slate for officers of your District Board. Our goal is to have representation for all areas of our district. Beth McDaniel Chair, Committee on Nominations 15648 Hawks Way, Carmel 46033 basmcdaniel@gmail.com Education and Interpretation Happy 2013! I hope all is going well for everyone. I am Judy Creviston, current Education and Intepretation Coordinator for the North Central District. We would like to recognize 2012 Mission Today units at our Spring District meeting, April 13, at Windfall UMC. These forms should have been turned in to last year s E&I Coordinator, Brenda Crawford. However, if you have not yet turned yours in, please do so ASAP. Her address is PO Box 21, Windfall 46076. The other information that is directed to the Education and Interpretation Coordinator is scholarship applications for Mission u. Unfortunately, I find it necessary to resign this position. Therefore, any Mission u scholarship applications for Local or District Unit Members can be sent to Janeen Burrows, 600 S. Maish Rd., Frankfort, IN 46041, by April 15. Youth and Children applications are to be sent to the Conference E&I Coordinator, Jan Wilcox. Applications are included in this newsletter. Please contact a district officer if you or someone you know would be interested in filling this position. Judy Creviston Spiritual Growth A new year to be excited about. How do we touch the hearts of women and get them excited about Missions? EVERYTHING starts with Spiritual Growth and moves out from there. Ideas: Have a devotion ready in your pocket so you are ready at anytime if called upon. I find Jesus Calling by Sarah Young to be good. Of course the Upper Room and Our Daily Bread are also favorites. Next promote going to one of the Spiritual Retreats offered by our Conference. They are fantastic. Offer a scholarship to attend; draw a name from a hat. Bring several carloads. Two-fold results: 1. You will grow Spiritually. 2. You can share or lead a Spiritual Retreat at your own church or for your unit from what you learned. I went to the one offered in Tipton, IN at the St. Joseph Conference Center. It was fantastic. I am going again this year. We as United Methodist women do so much to help our nation and the world. Please read a book from the reading program and let it touch your heart. Read the articles in both the Response and New World Outlook magazines. Share, share and share this information with those you see. United Methodist Women's Sunday celebrations are a great way to get women excited about what is happening. Encourage all to join. If you are a small church you can call each woman personally. If you are a large church you may need a few friends to help make the calls. Find out if an evening, morning or afternoon would interest them. You never know, you may start a new circle. Most of all PRAY before you reach out. As our units grow so does the mission power grow. God Bless, Linda K Davies 19604 Wagon Trail Drive, Noblesville 46060 317-770-7098 lkdavies1@gmail.com Social Action The Conference Executive Team has chosen the following as our Social Action priority for 2013: Human Trafficking, Domestic Violence and Immigration We will continue our advocacy work on these issues. North Central Connection 4 March 2013 Program Resources I hope you all have sent in your unit s list of members who have participated in the 2012 UMW Reading Program. I have received several, via post or email. Either is fine. I look forward to announcing the list of names at the Spring Meeting. Of course, nearly two months of 2013 has flown by. I hope you all have begun planning what books to read this year. As always, at the Spring meeting I will have 2 of each book on the 2013 reading program list, but you may read books included on the 2012 to 2008 lists, including youth titles, unless you have listed them before. If you have a specific book you are interested in listed on the 2008-2012 lists, please email your request to me at peggydp@comcast.net and I will order it to be available at Spring meeting. I will also have several 4-year quadrennial calendars, 2013 program books, and 2013 prayer calendars available. The 2013-2016 handbook will not be available in print until June, 2013. The Mission Resource Center indicated an e-book, without the standing rules will be available for download after February 28. If you are interested in a copy of all the books eligible for the Reading Program by category and by year, I d be happy to email you one. I compiled it for my local unit, and we find a total list in one location is helpful. It is just the names of the books, no authors. If you are interested, again, drop me a line at peggydp@comcast.net. I started reading my list for this year with a goal of achieving Plan II 10 books, 2 from each category, and reviewing Response or New Outlook Magazine each month. I am currently reading the book Touch Pressing Against the Wounds of a Broken World by Pastor Rudy Rasmus. It is the story of the re-emergence of St. John s Church a United Methodist congregation in downtown Houston, TX. Through his and his wife, Juanita s, ministry the church has moved from a church ready to close its doors to one of the largest, most effective downtown churches in Houston. I had the opportunity to meet Juanita Rasmus at a conference a few years ago, and am anxious to read their story. I m looking forward to seeing what you are reading. Thanks for participating in the Reading Program. Peg Peter, Secretary, Program Resources 3411 E. 8 th Street, Anderson, IN 46012 peggydp@comcast.net Mission U Scholarship Program Changes Jan Wilcox, Conference Coordinator for Education and Interpretation has announced changes to the scholarship program for Mission U (formerly School of Christian Mission) for 2013. The program has been expanded to include persons who have attended this educational event in the past; prior opportunities were only for first time attendees. United Methodist Women of Indiana offers scholarships to young women (ages 18 thru 40), women over 40, children (3 years grade 5) and youth (grade 6 12) who are interested in attending Mission u. The women must be members of United Methodist Women or affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Children and youth must be attending with a parent or responsible adult. Children and youth will room with this adult and share meals and other non-class time. As funds are available, the scholarship covers 100% of the cost of registration, housing, textbooks and meals for those attending Mission u for the first time, and 50% of those costs for those who has previously attended Mission u (formerly School of Christian Mission). Housing is dormitory style. The Mission u daily schedule includes early morning worship, large group worship and study, choice of study in a classroom setting, and evening gatherings. This event begins on Tuesday, July 23 rd and ends on Friday, July 26 th and is held on the campus of DePauw University in Greencastle, IN. The deadline for applications is April 15; you are encouraged to submit applications soon. Applications for each category are available on the IN UMW website http://www.gbgm-umc.org/indumw/#about. Forms are also available in this newsletter, pages 11-14. Youth and Children forms are sent to the Conference and the others are sent to the District. Information is at the bottom of each form. 2013 Mission u Studies: Spiritual Growth: Living Sacramentally, Walking Justly Geographic: The Roma (gypsies) of Europe Social Issue: Poverty

Non-sewers can provide materials to make them or cut-out materials. We ll even be working on these during our week at Mission u. If you do not have access to the internet, be sure to come to our District Spring meeting on April 13. We will have patterns and instructions available. Emily Otto-Tice did some research and found the following site to be easy to understand: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=18462.0 Communications As editor of this newsletter, I always write my article last so I can adapt it to the space I have left after including all other pertinent information. Hence I address you from this awkward long, narrow column! There is so much information in this first newsletter of the year, I hope it is not overwhelming! But then, this is a very busy organization! Did you know that United Methodist Women National Organization is the largest women s organization in the world?! Please take time to look through everything and share with other women in your church and community. Are there youth in your church who are planning a mission trip this year? Give them the Youth and Young Adult Scholarship form. Are there young women, with or without children, who might enjoy a week together in fellowship and learning at Mission u? Nominate them for a scholarship with the enclosed applications. Are you looking for a hands-on project? Check out the information on this page to provide reusable sanitary pads for girls in Sierra Leone. Do you feel like you could use a spiritual uplift? Invite a fellow sister-in- Christ to one of the Conference retreats (registrations are in this newsletter). Then there s the Reading Program (see page 4)! If you are a United Methodist Woman, you should never be bored! Janeen Burrows 765-659-4227 600 S Maish Rd, Frankfort burrowsjj@comcast.net
