Page 2 I. COURSE DESCRIPTION: This men-only course covers the practical areas of the local church ministry. These areas include church finances, Sunday school administration, missionary care, and the missions conference. This course also acquaints the student with information and lessons learned regarding the church calendar, planning and implementing activities, procedures in administrative organization, deacon selection and training, the church constitution, and philosophy of ministry. II. INSTRUCTORS Pastor Williams Duttry Administrative Pastor David Williamson III. RATIONALE A. Philosophical: 1. Bible The students will be taught that the Christian faith finds its source in the Word of God, so the administration of the Church must be Bible-based. 2. Church The students will be taught that the Word of God defines the organism of the Church as a body of believers. 3. Function The student will be taught that the work of the church is accomplished locally and independently. B. Practical: 1. Every student will be taught imperatives of the church to include by not be limited to authority, focus, ministries, constitution, articles of faith, and problem resolution. 2. Every student will be experience administering important ordinances of faith. IV. PREREQUISITES: None V. TEXTBOOKS: A. The Bible (King James Version). B. Jackson, Paul R. the Doctrine and Administration: Regular Baptist Press, Schaumburg, Illinois. VI. COURSE REQUIREMENTS: A. Academic regulations: 1. Students will read text from the KJV Bible and any other supporting text as assigned by the instructor. 2. Students will read the Doctrine and Administration of the Church by Paul R. Jackson
Page 3 3. The students will complete practical assignments in accordance with established expectations and to the satisfaction of respective instructors. 4. Students will complete a two thousand (2000) word thesis that expresses imperatives as taught and that confirms understanding. 5. Students will take notes relative to daily class lecture and discussion. B. Attendance Policies 1. A maximum of two (2) hours of classroom absence will be allowed for any reason with the exception of administrative absences. Any student missing more than two (2) hours of instruction may not receive credit for the class. 2. If a student is more than ten (10) minutes late to a class or leaves more than ten (10) minutes early, he/she may be counted absent (unless otherwise administratively approved). VII. COURSE OBJECTIVES: A. Cognitive 1. The student will understand the significance of philosophy and organizational procedure relative to the local church. 2. The student will understand the structure and infrastructure of the local church. 3. The student will know significant events and activities as well as their importance and merit to the local church. B. Affective 1 The student will realize there are specific processes and problems within the local church. C. Experiential 1. Students will be able to perform specific tenets of faith. VIII. ASSESSMENT AND GRADING: A. All assignments (assessments) will be given a point value. The total points possible and the total points earned will be used to determine the numeric average. Grades will be calculated from the following components: 1. Ordinances of faith performance 20% 2. Essay 30% B. The letter grade will be determined based on the following Grading Scale: 90 100 A 80 89 B 70 79 C 60 69 D 0 59 F
