Mysterium Fidei #56) We witness this miracle at every Mass. Jesus, with His great love for us, remains with us to adore in tabernacles and chapels in all Catholic Churches throughout the world. Burkemper Our Lenten prepara on concludes this week; Easter is one week away! The liturgical period from Palm Sunday (this Sunday) to Easter is known collec vely as Holy Week. It is the most important week in the en re Liturgical Year and receives the designa on of holy in light of the events commemorated and mysteries celebrated during the week. As we enter into this week, let s reflect on exactly what occurs and its importance. Palm Sunday recalls our Lord s triumphant entry into Jerusalem amidst the acclaim of the crowds. We receive blessed palms this day and tradi onally would have a procession preceding Mass to imitate Jesus procession into Jerusalem. Monday through Wednesday the Gospel at Holy Mass puts before us Judas Iscariot as he plots to betray our Lord and hand Him over to the Scribes and Pharisees, who will put Him to death. Holy Thursday recalls some of the most important reali es of our Faith. We recognize that on the first Holy Thursdayat the Last Supper- our Lord gave us the Holy Eucharist and ins tuted the Holy Priesthood, and we celebrate these tremendous gi s at the Mass of the Lord s Supper in the evening. It is also at that Mass that we reenact Jesus washing the feet of His Apostles as a tremendous sign of service for us to imitate. In the tradi on of the Church, there developed the prac ce of all the priests in a diocese coming together with their bishop on Holy Thursday morning for what is called the Chrism Mass. At this Mass the priests renew the promises they made at ordina on in service to God and His Church, which is fi ng since this is the day that Jesus gave the Church the priesthood. Addi onally at this Mass, the Holy Oils to be used for the Sacraments for the next year are made. The Oil of Catechumens (Bap sm) and the Oil of the Sick (Anoin ng of the Sick) are blessed and the Sacred Chrism (Bap sm, Confirma on, Holy Orders) is consecrated. Here in the Archdiocese of St. Louis, the Chrism Mass occurs at the Cathedral Basilica at 10am on Holy Thursday. It is well worth your me to go. Following Mass on Thursday evening we are invited to pray with our Lord in the garden of Gethsemane and then spiritually watch on Good Friday as He is handed over, tortured, and crucified. Recalling our Lord s death fills us with the greatest sorrow, and we especially remember the me from noon un l three when our Lord hung on the Cross. O en the Sta ons of the Cross are prayed on this day, and the liturgical service of Good Friday is a sober ceremony during which we venerate the Cross upon which our Saviour died. We remain doleful throughout Holy Saturday as our Lord rests in the tomb, but this mourning is broken by the joy of the Easter Vigil, the most beau ful service of the Church year. We celebrate our Lord s resurrec on from the dead, the most important event in all of human history and the founda on of our Faith. He conquered death in order to give us new life, and we see this life placed before our eyes as persons are Bap zed, received, and Confirmed in the Faith. The light of Faith shines in the Easter fire, and the beau ful words of the Gloria and Alleluia return to our lips. Our joy then spills over into the season of Easter. We can see that the events and mysteries we celebrate during this week certainly merit the designa on of holy. I strongly encourage you to par cipate as much as possible- in your personal prayer and in the public liturgies of the Church- in the events of this week. The Mass of the Lord s Supper begins Holy Thursday at 7pm. The liturgy of the Lord s Passion begins at 7:30 on Good Friday. The Easter Vigil begins at 8pm on Holy Saturday evening. All will be beau ful, prayerful celebra ons that join us to the events of Jesus life. There is nothing like reliving the events of our Lord s Passion, Death, and Resurrec on. Indeed, these are the very events that make us holy. Have a blessed Holy Week!-Fr. Burkemper

Tri-County Birthright is in need of volunteers to cover our 3 hour shifts. We are located in Eureka, open from 9:30-3:30 M-Th and we currently only need to fill one weekly AM shift. (Although extra volunteers would be great to have for backup!) Duties simply consist of answering phone calls and providing support services to clients that come in. We are looking for a volunteer who can show care and compassion to women who find themselves dealing with an untimely pregnancy. We will train you and fully prepare you to work with these women and their families by sharing resources and just being there for them. If you feel that this is something God may be calling you towards, please email eureka@birthright.org or call our office at 636-938-4221 and ask for Theresa or Holly. You can meet with the Director, get your questions answered and find out if you are a good fit for this work. Who knows the life you change may be your own.

Ministry of the Month: Angel Corps This month the ministry of the month is the Angel Corp for the Sick and Homebound. Do you want to get involved in this ministry? The Angel Corp volunteers minister to parishioners in nursing homes and those who are homebound who are unable to attend Mass because of illness, disability or age. Volunteers bring Holy Communion and pray with sick or elderly parishioners. We would welcome new ministers to join our team. Our Angel Corps volunteers honor the privacy of those they visit and must follow the Safety Training requirements for those that serve children and the vulnerable in the parish. Additionally, the ministers will meet in April for annual training and discussion on the ministry. So how do you get involved? Contact Susan Hatcher at (636) 391-0787 or s-hatcher@sbcglobal.net if you would like to join the Angel Corp ministry. This weekend, Angel Corp members will have a table set up in the vestibule to answer any questions and/ or you can sign up to join the ministry. If you have anyone in your home that is homebound temporarily or longer, you may contact the Parish Office or Susan at any time and a minister will contact you to visit bringing the Blessed Sacrament to you! 3x your impact! Now through March 31, Amazon is tripling the donation rate on your first smile.amazon.com purchase! Go to smile.amazon.com/ch/43-6013943 and Amazon donates a portion of your purchase to Holy Infant Catholic Church. St. Patrick Casserole Program Frozen casseroles are collected in the white coolers in the vestibule on April 4 after 4 p.m. and before April 5 at 9 a.m. Pans and recipes are available in the ushers room during Masses, in the parish office during office hours or in the vestibule on the casserole drop off days. We sent 70 casseroles down in March! Thanks for your support! T Y O P V!
