April 15, 2018 West Valley Presbyterian Church This morning s theme: God s Great Patience Called to Worship Call to Worship: Psalm 145:8-9 The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. The Lord is good to all, and his mercy is over all that he has made. For The Beauty Of The Earth For the beauty of the earth, For the glory of the skies, For the love which from our birth Over and around us lies. For the church, that evermore Lifteth holy hands above Offering up on every shore Her pure sacrifice of love. Lord of all to Thee we raise This our hymn of grateful praise. For the wonder of each hour, Of the day and of the night, Hill and vale, and tree and flower, Sun and moon, and stars of light. For Thyself, best Gift Divine To our race so freely given For that great great love of Thine Peace on earth and joy in Heaven For the joy of human love, Brother, sister, parent, child, Friends on earth and friends above, For all gentle thoughts and mild. First Scripture Reading: 2 Peter 3:8-13 (page 1019) Confessing our Sin Prayer of Confession Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have left undone those things which we ought to have done; and we have done those things which we ought not to have done; and there is no health in us. But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us. And grant, O merciful Father, for Jesus sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous and joyful life, to the glory of your holy name. Amen.
Words of Assurance: Psalm 103:10-12 For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. Celebrating the Gospel Blessed Assurance Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! O what a foretaste of glory divine! Heir of salvation, purchase of God, Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood. This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Savior, all the day long; This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Savior, all the day long. Perfect submission, perfect delight, Visions of rapture now burst on my sight; Angels descending bring from above Echoes of mercy, whispers of love. Perfect submission, all is at rest I in my Savior am happy and blest, Watching and waiting, looking above, Filled with His goodness, lost in His love. Declaring the Faith: Westminster Short Catechism 16-17, 20 Q. 16. Did all mankind fall in Adam's first transgression? A. The covenant being made with Adam, not only for himself, but for his posterity; all mankind, descending from him by ordinary generation, sinned in him, and fell with him, in his first transgression. Q. 17. Into what estate did the fall bring mankind? A. The fall brought mankind into an estate of sin and misery. Q. 20. Did God leave all mankind to perish in the estate of sin and misery? A. God having, out of his mere good pleasure, from all eternity, elected some to everlasting life, did enter into a covenant of grace, to deliver them out of the estate of sin and misery, and to bring them into an estate of salvation by a redeemer. 2

Holy Holy Holy Holy, holy, holy Lord God Almighty Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee Holy, holy, holy Merciful and mighty God in three persons blessed Trinity Holy, holy, holy all the saints adore thee Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea Cherubim and seraphim falling down before thee who wert, and art, and evermore shalt be Holy, holy, holy! Though the darkness hide thee Though the eye of sinful man Thy glory may not see Only Thou art holy there is none beside Thee perfect in power in love and purity Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty All thy works shall praise thy name in earth and sky and sea Holy, holy, holy Merciful and mighty God in three persons blessed Trinity Communion in Sacrament Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup. 1 Corinthians 11:28 Prayer of thanksgiving Gracious Lord, we give you thanks for calling us out of the darkness and into your glorious light. When we remember the price you paid, the death of your only Son, we can only wonder and marvel at the greatness of your love. We give our lives to you Lord, and pray that through your Spirit you would teach us how to live according to your will. Send us out now to love and serve you as faithful witnesses of your mercy. We pray this in Jesus name. Amen. Tithes and Offerings Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:7 How Firm A Foundation How firm a foundation ye saints of the Lord Is laid for your faith in His excellent word What more can he say than to you he hath said To you, who for refuge to Jesus have fled 5

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Benediction: Numbers 6:24-26 The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.
