F r. S o l a n u s C a s e y C o u n c i l St Margaret's of Scotland Church 21201 13 Mile Road St Clair Shores, Mi 48082 Knights Line A UGUST 2017 Brother Knights - Vivat Jesus! August is fast upon us and as we gather to celebrate the feast day of the Blessed Mother s Assumption into Heaven, we ask the Blessed Mother to help us in our daily struggles to remain faithful by our offerings. We come to gather to share our faith with the surrounding communities, from all different areas to praise and to give glory to our Blessed Mother. In the months ahead we have many challenges to do with our programs in a united way. Pray that our holy Mother gives us the faith and knowledge we need to do her son s work here in the parish of St. Margaret's of Scotland. This year the council picnic will be shared with St. Margaret on September 10th from noon til close of day. We will have our own booth and will distribute popsicles to the parish. Please come and join us. September 21st is the final car show. There will be chicken dinners served and door prizes for the drivers. ALL ARE INVITED. Dinners are $15.00 for those who don't have a car to show. There will be plenty of chicken and lots of music. WE are planning a Blue Mass for our first responders on November the 11th. All are invited. Dinner donations will be expected. November the 18th there will be two busses ordered to take Knights and parishioners to the Beatification of Fr. Solanus Casey at Ford Field. Bus tickets are $14 and do not include getting into Ford Field. The price of those tickets will not be available until August 15th. Please reserve your place on the bus now. Call Gerry Wilczynski 586 294-8173. We will make Ford Field tickets available when they come in. In other news, at the July meeting it was decided to have the minutes of the previous meeting distributed during the social hour (7:00pm) and approved at the meeting. It was also voted upon to pass a budget to work within the upcoming year. The budget was approved by all and will be available at all meetings. Until our next meeting, August 9th 2017, Yours in Christ. Gerald Wilczynski Grand Knight Council 3797

Charlie Gard case highlights faulty quality of life theory The ongoing Charlie Gard case in Britain has garnered great attention and even drawn President Donald Trump and Pope Francis into the fray. Charlie s parents are currently in court fighting to take their son to America for a last-ditch experimental treatment. Despite this attention the issue at the center of Charlie s case futile care theory has not been sufficiently explored. We can explore futile care theory in action through the example of Bob Tank in Michigan. Do you know the record of those who represent you in the U.S. Senate? Senator Debbie Stabenow has a long record of supporting abortion in the Michigan Legislature and the U.S. Congress, and it deserves a closer examination. Where does Senator Stabenow stand on these important issues? J. Smith, Pro-Life Council Chairman. Page 3 August 2017

Knights of Columbus BENEFITS NEWS Update your Beneficiaries Sometimes it is easy to overlook the simplest of things. Take, for example, the beneficiaries on your life insurance policies. If your policy was applied for and issued several years ago, it may very well be that the person you originally selected as the beneficiary is no longer the person you would want to receive the policy proceeds. If you bought the policy when you were single, for example, you may have named your parents as beneficiaries. If you have since married, your policies should be updated to reflect your spouse as beneficiary. Maybe you ve had children since, who are not named on the policies. Most people list a primary beneficiary, who is specifically designated as the first in priority to receive policy proceeds. We also encourage the naming of a contingent beneficiary, an alternate person designated to receive policy proceeds, usually in the event that the original beneficiary pre-deceases the insured. I routinely call all of my policyholders for annual review appointments, usually near the anniversary date of your policy that is, the date it was originally issued. One of the matters that I ll discuss during this review is the status of your beneficiary designations. If they need updating, and they often do, I can complete the paperwork during that appointment.
