We would meet on a regular basis to pray and reflect on the weekly scriptures at the Newman Center or another convenient location. It would be a relaxed and welcoming environment where young children could play, parents and caregivers could nurture the children while they shared their thoughts on Scripture and support each other in a healthy environment. If you are interested in participating please contact Patrick Havel at patricklhavel@gmail.com or 510-220-8638. We look forward to hearing from you! Dance, then, wherever you may be! We all know this song well and enjoy singing it whenever we have the opportunity at Mass. I regularly attend the 10:00 am Mass on Sundays and find myself secretly dancing to some of the hymns. Dancing has been a big part of my life since I was a child. I am now actively dancing and teaching with Berkeley Folk Dancers. International Folk Dancing brings so much joy to my life. It opens my eyes and heart as I learn about other people, their culture, and dance, knowing that all people are unique and beautiful children of God. Berkeley Folk Dancers has given to me a gift of community like Newman-Holy Spirit. There is a common thread of love and respect. I have had the opportunity to dance around the world learning to do-si-do, swing to the music, leap to a drum, and grapevine. What better way to build self-confidence, pleasure in cooperative fun and work, socialization skills, physical strength, and mental stimulation? Men and women have always used dance to express their emotions and beliefs about the world, society, and life in general. There are special dances for almost every important occasion: birth, acceptance into adulthood, marriage, and death. There are dances for courage, victory, and power. The time is now to start dancing. If you would like to learn more about International Folk Dancing with Berkeley Folk Dancers, visit our website (www.berkeleyfolkdancers.org/ or contact me (kindermar54@sbcglobal.net). My contact information is on the homepage. We have a Beginner's Class on Tuesday evenings. Like at Newman-Holy Spirit, All are welcome in this place. Marian Snyder By the way, Mary McManus, Zyg Deutschman (both sing in the choir), and Deborah Tatto (wears many hats at Newman) dance with Berkeley Folk Dancers just about every week!
