BOOK OF THE MONTH Catholicism and Citizenship: Political Cultures of the Church in the Twenty-First Century By: Massimo Faggioli The beginning of the twentyfirst century has provided abundant evidence of the necessity to re-examine the relationship between Catholicism and the modern, global world. This book tries to proceed on this path with a focus on the meaning, legacy, and reception in today s world of the ecclesiology of Vatican II, starting with Gaudium et Spes: This council exhorts Christians, as citizens of two cities, to strive to discharge their earthly duties conscientiously and in response to the Gospel spirit. Catholicism and Citizenship is a call for a rediscovery of the moral and political imagination of Vatican II for the Church and the world of our time. Available in our bookstore. Pg. 4 June 30th, 2017 at 7:15pm Screening: THE VISITOR What does it take to build islands of communion and reconciliation rather than walls and barriers of division and exclusion? These are the questions we invite you to explore through the La Salette 2017 Movie Festival, with 8 screenings, the last Friday of every month, the next of which will be on June 30th, 2017 from 7:15-9:00pm. When professor Walter Vale (Richard Jenkins) travels to New York for a lecture, he s stunned to find illegal immigrants Tarek (Haaz Sleiman) and Zainab (Danai Gurira) living in his apartment. It comes out that it was rented to them by a swindler, and Vale feels sufficiently sorry for them that he invites them to stay. They get on well until Tarek is accused of jumping a subway turnstile and lands in a detention center. He risks being deported, and Vale does everything he can to prevent it.
