Muskogee County Genealogical Society Quarterly Originated 1983 Volume 32 Issue 4 December, 2015 Morgan Ancestry Chart 32 Tracy Bale Flowers Inquiry 33 Remembering Our Own 34 Probate Indexing 37 Obituary Index, Dec 2015 40 100 Years Ago 41 Transcription is from a copy of the article published in the Muskogee Daily Phoenix on Thursday Morning, February 16, 1905 Mr. Benjamin Martin, Jr., is a gifted lawyer, a fine reasoned and a close observer and student. He is particularly careful and conscientious in the preparation of his cases and is a valuable advisor in all legal matters. No safer counsellor can be had than Mr. Martin, and the knowledge of this fact has brought him a large practice. He was appointed first probate commissioner of the Norther district of the Indian Territory by Judge Springer and filled the office satisfactorily to all. He is a Knight Templar, stewart of the M. E. church, south, and is interested in the banking and financial institutions of the city. He is besides a large owner of property and is much interested in the future of the city, in which he had faith and confidence. Mr. Martin was born in Barnwell county, South Carolina in July 1873. He was educated at the public schools and Wofford College in his native state, and afterwards completed a law course in the Columbian University, Washington, D. C., from which he graduated and was admitted to the bar in 1897 and the same year licensed to practice in the Indian Territory. This is the final entry of this series for the MCGS Quarterly For more information About the artist And the Camillus Kessler Collection see the March 2015 and June 2015 Issues. 31

The Society has had an inquiry from Tracy Bale Flowers. She is hoping that someone might recognize some of the men in the photograph below. Tracy's grandfather traveled to Oklahoma from Texas to "make his own way". The photograph says "Oklahoma Boys" on the back and has a date of 1908. Her grandfather, John Elbert Bale is in the center, back row. He would have been about 19 years old at the time. (If you have information to help Ms. Flowers, please contact MCGS) 33

The Muskogee County Genealogical Society is adding more information each day to help both members and non-members with their family research. An index is a list of the basic information for files on microfilm. To access these to go http://www.muskogeecountygenealogicalsociety.org/ (Society Website). The tab Databases has a list of indexes available and for a copy of the original records, the instructions can be found under the tab Research Services. To this end, there are many indexes available which include: Obituaries from the Muskogee Daily Phoenix 1907-2015; Muskogee County Cemeteries; Funeral Home Records; Marriage License Records 1890-1947; Divorce Records and Publications by MCGS. The newest index, Probates and Guardianships 1907-1930 in is the process of being completed by Linda Stout. To date she has posted on our website alphabetically through surnames beginning with P. The next few pages are a sample of the information available on this newest index. 37
