We recognize our responsibility to give worship to God, reverence to all people, respect to all creation and to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. Acknowledging our own brokenness and our need to hope, we seek to be a forgiving and welcoming community committed to service by the sharing of life and love with all, and working together to make peace and justice a reality in our world. Strengthened by the presence of God in our lives, we undertake all of this through Our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen. Alleluia
Holy Spirit Catholic Church March 4, 2018 From The Pastor s Desk One of the first things that new parents want to have is a picture of their baby. Many parents take this picture and download on facebook, tweeter, e-mail or enclosed it in a card announcing the arrival of their new bundle of joy. Maybe some of you even have such baby pictures your parents took of you. But as we know, the picture taking doesn t stop there. As children grow and change, we want to capture their image over and over again. And as we mature, the picture taking still goes on. We need to see them in their different moods and in different situations. So there is a gallery of photos. All of which brings us to today s Gospel. There we see Jesus in a completely different light. He is no longer just the gentle and compassionate person. He is also the outraged and angry person. When he found people selling cattle, sheep and doves and the money changers sitting at their table, it became too much for him to bear. He made a whip and drove them out of the temple, poured out the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. If our mental gallery of pictures of Jesus does not contain this picture of the outraged Jesus, then our gallery is not complete. Why is it so important for us to have as complete an image of Jesus as possible? Well the reason is simply this: The imitation of Christ is still at the foundation of our spiritual lives. We are asked to model our life on the life of Jesus. Many of us frequently ask ourselves the question: What would Jesus do in this situation? We can t possibly answer that question unless we have a thorough grasp of who Jesus is. And that understanding of Jesus comes mainly through the New Testament. Our image of Jesus must be based on the whole New Testament, not just on one or two word pictures that we consider to be our favorites. Many social critics are saying that we are becoming a passive society. We prefer to leave things to other people. Our moto is becoming: Let Bill do it! As followers of Jesus, we are asked to be active members of this world that God has created. If we always and everywhere leave matters of injustice and poverty to others we will have given up our right to call ourselves Christian. The Jesus that we profess to follow was a person concerned with his brothers and sisters. The Church that he left behind has that same concern. We would do well to take some time and examine our personal picture of Jesus Christ. Let s not be like those parents who only had one small picture of their child. The photo gallery of Jesus that we carry in our hearts should have hundreds of different pictures in it. Let us pray for a fuller and more complete image of the one whom we call Lord and Savior. Holy Spirit Catholic Church March 4, 2018 There are no Children's Faith Formation classes NEXT Sunday, March 11 so we can all enjoy a much needed Spring Break! Classes resume on Sunday, March 18 when we will celebrate the Feast of St. Joseph. Join us in the Community Center lobby to enjoy our annual St. Joseph s Altar, a joint venture with Community Life! Because this feast day event has become so popular, we have moved a portion of it to the gym so there is more space for everyone to be comfortable. We love a big crowd! We ll have yummy baked goods, coffee and juice from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., plus you can pick up prayer cards and/or write down prayer intentions, which will be given to Fr. Joe. If you re in the baking spirit, you can drop off baked good donations at the front desk on March 18 to share! Just be sure to put them on disposable, non-returnable platters...that way, we don t lose your stuff... PreK 3 Mornings with Mom & Dad are this Sunday, March 4 in your child s classroom during their normal Faith Formation time. Parents, plan on joining your child for another fun, faith-filled session but remember these sessions are NOT part of the sacramental preparation process. Mornings with Mom & Dad are taking a spring break and return on Sunday, March 25 with the 6th Grade. The three week Theology of the Body (TOB) Mini-Series for Grades 4-6 concludes this Sunday, March 4. Additionally, the Diocesan mandated Child Safe Environment Training (more commonly referred to as VIRTUS) will take place for Grades K-6 this Sunday, as well. Parents wishing to opt their children out of this required Safety Training MUST complete an Opt Out Form available through the CFF Office by the 4th. Remember, no guests are allowed unless we have written permission from the parents. Please feel free to contact the Faith Formation Office with any questions. Keep those TP rolls a coming! We need to replenish our depleted supply of toilet paper rolls, which we use for Faith Formation craft projects You can drop them off (please remove all the toilet paper ) at the front desk, attention Deborah. Well it s that time again! Faith Formation will be hosting it s annual Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday, April 8. With the egg hunt now part of the Sunday CFF Program, we will have three egg hunts per class session so all children can participate. To help us support all six egg hunts, we are gladly accepting donations of plastic Easter eggs, large or small, and individually wrapped Easter candy. The children will actually stuff the eggs in their Faith Formation class on Palm Sunday so they have something to look forward to (the anticipation!) after Easter. In fact, we ll have an egg stuffing station in the gym on Palm Sunday (March 25) if you want to join the fun! If you would like to help us out with egg/candy donations, just drop them off at the Community Center front desk, attention CFF. Please contact Deborah with any questions. Children s Faith Formation will be working with Youth Ministry on the Kids Against Hunger campaign during Lent!
