March Happenings Good Friday Service Friday, April 14 th @ 6:30 PM Good Friday is on the move from the AMP to the FLC. The last few years we have hosted Good Friday at the AMP, and it has been terrific. We ve had an incredible turnout of volunteers who have worked countless hours to pull off a great service for our city. We will have a Good Friday service (April 14 th ) again this year, however, we want to do something a little different. To begin with, the service this year will be in our Family Life Center. The service will be unplugged, candle light, and will feature family style communion. That is, we will sit around tables for the service, and each table will celebrate communion in a small group. Our theme will be, The Finishing Touch. at Pray for One Starting Sunday, March 19 th @ 9 & 11 AM Pray for One is more than another message series... Beginning Sunday, March 19 th, we will begin a new series examining our recent effort to Pray for One. I hesitate to call Pray for One a message series because it is far more than that. Pray for One is a lifestyle. It is an effort to open our hearts to the heart of God and join in his mission. The prayer is essentially this: God, give me one. Give me one person today who needs your love. Give me one person. Praying for one every day will not only change you, it will change everyone who encounters God through you. We ll see how a simple prayer can position individuals, families, and churches to impact others for eternity. Don t forget to go to www.prayforone.com and download the free daily devotional.

Weekly Preschool Program First Christian Church Preschool Our First Christian Church Weekday Preschool Program is here to offer families in our church and our community a program that combines high standards in early childhood education with a loving Christian environment where children can grow and learn. Both our toddler and preschool classrooms have recently experienced a growth spurt! Our preschool class is at capacity for now. And the toddler class has outgrown their original classroom and has recently moved to a bigger room. Thank you so much for the continued support, prayers and to those who have physically helped to get our new room ready so quickly. We are excited to have begun registration for the 2017-2018 school year. If you have questions or need additional information, please contact diane@1stchristianchurch.com 306 Underground Sunday Evenings from 5:30 7:30 PM 306 Underground is for all middle and high schoolers. Dinner is provided from 5:30-6 PM. This is a great place to play games, make new friends, hang out with awesome adult leaders, and talk about Jesus! I would love to see you there! We will begin a series called, Are you in? It s a question we all answer over and over again. When there s a party, when our coach says it s time for tryouts, when we re offered a summer job, when our friends go to the movies, or when someone invites us to church, we all have the chance to decide if we re in or out for that particular activity. Sometimes the answer is an easy, Count me in! Other times it s tougher. There are good reasons on both sides. Some of Jesus friends were faced with the same decision of whether they were in or out. They had good reasons to join the Jesus movement, but they also had some pretty compelling reasons to step out things like doubt, guilt, pride, and the fear of what they might miss. As we get to know these sometimes famous and devoted followers, we ll talk about the decision they faced, why they could have walked away, and what led them to say, I m in. Crochet and Knitting Classes Wednesday Evenings @ 5:00 PM Crocheting and knitting classes will be held on Wednesdays in March from 5:00 until 7:00 PM. We will meet in the Joyful Giver s Sunday school room. Contact Y vette Johns at 678-782-1477 or email yjjohns@gmail.com

Bags for Cancer Patients Return by Sunday, March 26 th Help us show our love and support to those fighting cancer by picking up a tote to fill for local women and men who are battling cancer. Once filled and collected, the bags are taken to the Oncology Center at Tanner Hospital and given to patients as they receive treatment. The bags are available outside of each sanctuary and in the Family Life Center. Please return filled bags by Sunday, March 26 th. Thank you! Keenagers March to Mary Mac s Thursday, March 16 th @ 9 AM The trip from our 2016 tour most asked for again was our trip to Mary Mac s Tea Room in Atlanta. The food was fantastic, especially the pot likker and cornbread. Plan to join us for this small road trip on Thursday, March 16 th. We will meet at the church at 9 AM. Mark your calendar for a great time together! Keenagers offers fellowship, fun and food to those 55 and over. You re invited to join us the 3 rd Thursday of each month! First Women of Faith: Sharing the Light Retreat A Look Back at Saturday, February 25 th The Omega ministry of FCC sponsored the Women s Retreat which started with a nice breakfast prepared by Omega president Marjorie Aldridge. Planners Mary Alice Hobson, Omega, and her sister Margo Shepherd built this six -hour event around the theme of SHARING YOUR LIGHT. Six women from the FCC congregation spoke about how they have responded to the needs of humanity. Evanda Estes told of the need for food, education, and mentoring she saw when she first visited Haiti and how she is trying to meet those needs through her non-profit called Revelator International Inc. Patti Saylor told women of the need for the amendment of a federal law to assure respectful handling of the bodies of soldiers and the way God led her to get that problem rectified. Kara Bass spoke eloquently via video of the tremendous need for foster care and adoption in our area. Meredith Wynne, a missionary recruit to Prague, Czechoslovakia, explained her plans to work as a children s director for Open Hand, a Christian library. Sandy Vierling shared how she had been inspired as a young woman to take a personal interest in missions. Utilizing Delta buddy privileges, she has spent the last forty plus years bringing supplies and encouragement to missionaries on several continents. Louanne Hutcheson finished up the morning with a delightful tale of her singing career which encouraged the ladies to freely share their God given talents with others as He has freely bestowed those talents on them. After a build-your-own sandwich lunch, Wendy Barnhart and Lindsey Faircloth explained how the group would meet the mission statement of the Omega ministry: to SERVE WOMEN AND CHILDREN IN OUR COMMUNITY AND IN THE WORLD. By the time the activities came to a close, attendees had made seven cute, warm blankets to share at the new family homeless shelter in Carrollton. Several paintings on canvas had been designed for the same shelter. Women made dozens of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for another shelter and wrote many notes of encouragement for people in dire straits. All in all the day was one of blessings to those who attended and to those in need in our community. Praise be to God.
