Crestview Baptist Church 6600 Salem Ave. Clayton, Ohio 45315 (937) 854-6300 Issue 221 July 2017 A Few Words from Pastor Cain As we approach July, I wanted to introduce what the Lord has laid on my heart concerning outreach. It s something that each one of us can do in one way or another. G.R.O.W stands for Go Reach our World and is our new Visitation/Outreach Model. Whether we feel like outreach is our Spiritual gift or not, we are commanded to Go into the World. G.R.O.W. is very easy way for each of us to get involved in Outreach through our Local Church. Here is how it will work: Each week we will have a different G.R.O.W. team be responsible for our outreach. We will need a Team Leader or Leaders. Team leaders will encourage the team to make the calls/ visits that the church will have ready to go. You will not have to do any type of Outreach that you are not comfortable doing. We will have several different types of Calls: * First Time Visitors *Absentee *Shut-In *Hospital/Nursing Home *Encouraging: We Care Contacts *New Residents *Canvassing *Some of these can be done through Phone calls, Cards, Email, or Facebook. So, how will it work? We offer the visits in the office that you can pick up. You can take as many as you like, Make the calls, and then write that they have been made with response, and any additional info. You can also add new cards for those you would like contacted or new prospects you might come across. You can be on one team or be on many. All we are looking for are those willing to give at least some time once a month and make a difference. If we are all Going, we will all be Growing. If you would like to be a Grow Leader see the Pastor, Sign- ups for teams will be in the Lobby. Pastor Tim

This Fall Crestview will begin a new Kids Program call Kidszone. We will invite kids ages 3 thru 6 th grade to get into the Zone; Lesson Zone, Verse Zone, Game Zone and even a Homework Zone for our older ones. Kidszone will be from 6:30 8:00 on Wednesday nights. If you are interested in helping with a zone, please see Pastor Tim. *Please note that with an earlier start time even those in choir and Adult Bible study could help with our Homework Zone. With July here, Operation Christmas Child collection week is just 3 1/2 months away. It is Nov. 13-20, 2017. From our Dayton offices, Sandy Gargas had the opportunity to go to Rwanda in May and had the blessing of participating in distributing children's OCC boxes to boys and girls there. In Rwanda alone 117,000 boxes were given to children and she said it was heart breaking to see children outside because there were not enough boxes to go around in the villages. This year shipping has increased from $7 to $9 per shoe box. Collecting the shipping amount is as important as filling the shoe boxes. Samaritan's Purse has to cover the shipping if the money isn't collected up front. This year candy of any kind, even hard candy, will not be permitted as well as no toothpaste will be permitted. The reason for the candy is Customs is very strict and it was very difficult to get the boxes through. Some of the children eat the toothpaste and it takes more than 6+ months to get some of the boxes delivered so the toothpaste is expired then it isn't allowed. Toothbrushes are welcomed. Some items that the children were thrilled to get are: sunglasses, washcloths (in a zip lock bag), hot wheels or other small cars, soccer balls and a pump (we found them at 5 and Under in Huber Heights yesterday, the lady went in back and brought out a few already without air) The soccer ball and the pump were $5.00 each. We picked the smallest pump so it will fit better in the box. Other items are clothes, light up bouncy balls, jump ropes and stuffed animals. The kids were happy with these items as well as others. A hint is to remove all packaging because it takes up space in the boxes and it is hard for the kids to get some of it off. If multi things are in a package put them in a zip lock bag. Even Lego's fit in zip locks. Sandy said she spent quite a bit of time getting the outer packaging of the items for the kids. She said they rarely have a place to throw away the trash too. Another thing Sandy encourages us to write a personal note for each box. It s time to start thinking about volunteering as we draw near to the time to get boxes ready and help with collection boxes. Love in Christ, Jean Hissong 937-231-1830 Your OCC Team Leader

Life Groups Ed Houghton Director There s a sweet sweet spirit in this place and I know it is the spirit of the Lord. In today s world Christians and Christianity are being challenged about our faith in Jesus Christ. How can we become more bold and fearless in proclaiming the gospel? Boldness is a result of prayer. Boldness in sharing our faith is a result of personal prayer and the prayers of others. Paul himself commonly asked for prayer to speak boldly. In Ephesians 6:19-20, he says this: Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should. We must boldly proclaim Christ and the Gospel each and every day. Pray for the people on the Birthday List each day. Workers still needed in Children & Preschool. Also need a volunteer as permanent leader for Journey Life Group. Please pray for God s leadership in these areas. Sunday Morning: 9:00 am coffee, etc and donuts. Life Groups meet at 9:30 Join a Life Group, stop at the Welcome Center and we will assist you in locating a Life Group for you needs. Worship Celebration at 10:45- Great Music and Preaching of God s Word Galactic Starveyors Searching the Visible Discovering the Invisible 2017 Vacation Bible School July 16 th July 20 th for 3 yrs to 6 th Grade Children - 6:30-8:30 pm Attention VBS Parents: Please come join us Sunday, July 16 th, from 5:30 to 6:30 pm to our Meet and Greet with the VBS Team in the Gym, Refreshments will be provided. All children ages 3 years to 6 th grade are encouraged to register early. You can go to our Crestview.org website to pre-register your children for VBS week, or you can pick up a registration form located near the front office at our VBS Events table. Just drop your completed registration in the offering plate during services. VBS Flyers are also available at our VBS Events table. We are giving away each night a full size Milky Way candy bar to any child that brings a friend. Coupon is attached to our VBS flyers. Again this year, our Missions collections will be donated to Operation Christmas Child. This money collected from our VBS program provides shoe boxes at Christmas time to many needy children throughout the world. Last year we were able to give just a little under $200 towards OCC. Parents, grandparents and church members, please remember to save up your change and bring to the church during VBS week so the kids can drop into their donation buckets. This year, Pastor Tim will be involved in our mission s donation contest. Pastor Tim will pick a team, boys or girls and the team that drops the most money into the mission buckets will win the contest. If Pastor Tim picks the wrong team, he will get to enjoy a Pie in the face. Maybe someone will enter in the contest against Pastor Tim, we will have to wait and see! We will also be having a Drawing for all VBS kids to enter. The drawing is something really Galactic and Starveying so come and find out what it will be. Kids will have the opportunity to receive other fun prizes during the week. So bring a friend and attend every night! As always, continue to pray for our VBS program and volunteers. As we have stated many times, this is a very important Missions Outreach for reaching children here at Crestview Baptist Church and our community. Remember to continue to support our drink box donations for VBS week. The container to drop your drink boxes off is located in front of the church office. We appreciate your giving. July 6 th, we will be holding a meeting at 6:30 pm for the Teachers and all their helpers in the coffee shop. Please plan on attending. If you have not yet made a decision on serving VBS this year but have been praying about it, please join us at this meeting so we can help answer any of your questions. The Lord will bless you for serving Him. We love you all and are looking forward to VBS this summer! Your VBS Directors, Sue and Ricky
