DAY 6 Jerusalem of gold Friday, February 12, 2016 Our morning in the capital begins by either venturing into the old city of Jerusalem itself, to understand its importance to all three monotheistic faiths, or getting a taste of modern Jerusalem through film. This afternoon will be spent in the busy Jerusalem spots seeing how Jerusalem prepares for Shabbat. 9:00 am Option 1: Jerusalem as the center of three religions Explore the city that is holy to Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, with a guided tour in its ancient quarters. Option 2: Digging up the past - take a closer look at sites in the old city through the eyes of the archaeologist, at an active digs that continues to unravel the stories of Jerusalem. -OR- Israeli Society through the lens of film: Visit the Ma ale film school, view selected short films, followed by meeting with students and conversation about the relationship between Jerusalem, religious identity, and film making. DAY 8 collective memory and community building Sunday, February 14, 2016 Today we explore collective memory as we touch upon the chapter of the Holocaust and see how Israel commemorates this event. Our afternoon will be spent getting to know our counterparts in the partnership region. 8:30 am The changing place of the Holocaust in Israeli Society with Rachel Korazim at JCC Israel Center 9:45 am Depart for Yad V Shem, Israel s Holocaust Memorial and Museum for a guided tour of the museum an campus 1:00 pm Lunch on own in Ein Kerem village outside of Jerusalem, with an optional tour of the historic Church of St. John the Baptist. 3:00 pm Drive to Partnership region 4:00 pm Welcome to region- activities to be planned with colleagues from Partnership2Gether, options include: Meeting with local Council and counterparts People to People encountersshadowing Cooking workshop in Kiryat Malachi Observation into Gaza from Netiv Haasara Meeting with local students in the area Dinner with local residents and home hospitality Overnight Home Hospitality israeltourism DAY 9 journey s end Monday, February 15, 2016 Our final day in Israel is spent with the partnership community as we start to summarize our journey in Israel and the bridges built in the last week.
