Through my men s small group I have found a way to help and be helped. Our small group is now expanding to include volunteering in our community. I would encourage everyone to try a small group. I am so much more comfortable with my faith and I think God wants us to get outside ourselves and joining a small group is a great first step. - Marc Soda

More Small Groups In addition to this year s church-wide study we are pleased to offer: Celebrate Recovery led by John Niarhos You ve undoubtedly heard the expression that time heals all wounds. Often people carry hurts from 30 or 40 years ago. The truth is time only extends the pain if the problem isn t dealt with. Celebrate Recovery (CR) is a biblical and balanced program to help people overcome their hurts, habits and hang-ups. Based on Jesus teachings in the Sermon on the Mount, CR program is unique and many lives have been transformed toward Christ-like maturity at New Hanover UMC because of CR. CR meets Thursday evenings at NHUMC sanctuary lower level dining area 7:00-9:00PM. For more information contact John Niarhos at rniarhos@verizon.net or Tiffani Williams at twbullypups@yahoo.com APEX Junior and Senior High Youth Groups The teenagers in the Junior and Senior High Youth Groups will also be participating in the church-wide study. Contact Todd Pearage if your teen would like to join, toddp@newhanoverumc.org. More information on these groups can be found online at www.newhanoverumc.org Why join a Small Group in the New Year? After work I usually try to go to the gym even though I don t feel like it. Sometimes I also feel the same in my spiritual life that I could wave my spiritual wand and poof! I am living the abundant life Jesus has promised. But it doesn t happen that way; it takes time and we have to actively pursue the spiritual life. Being in a small group with people who desire a relationship with God is an invaluable part of our spiritual growth. God uses those in our small groups to encourage us, love us and help us. In Philippians 2:12-13 Apostle Paul encourages us to...work out your own salvation for it is God who works in you. Paul is not saying to earn our salvation, rather to work out our salvation daily (much like going to the gym!). So join a spiritual gym this Lenten season and sign up for a small group. - Heather Wallace
