First Presbyterian Church - Elko, Nevada 1559 Sewell Dr. - Elko, Nevada Desert Pulpit Sunday School for all ages Sunday at 9:00 am Worship Services 10:15 May, 2016 Search for Interim Pastor The first step in the search for an Interim Pastor was to submit the Ministry Information Form (MIF). The MIF has been submitted and approved by the Presbytery Committee on Ministry (COM). The next step is to receive matches based on the information provided in our MIF. We may also receive personal referrals. As of April 18, we have received no matches. We will likely receive our first referrals within the next few days. The Interim Pastor Nominating Committee will meet as soon as we have received referrals to begin reviewing the Personal Information Forms from the matches. Director of Family Ministries Spring is in the air at First Presbyterian! Here's what's happening in Family Ministries: Sunday School: Children 3-years-old through Adult May 22nd is our last day of Sunday School before we break for summer. We will have a church-wide potluck BBQ in the Fellowship Hall following Worship service that day. Please bring your favorite BBQ dish to share. Nursery: Babies 6 weeks to 3 years old The church nursery with Kay Hess is still available to little ones after the Children's Message Sunday mornings. Children's Church: Children 4 years through 2nd grade Children's Church is also available right after the Children's Message on Sunday mornings. In May our teachers are Heather Norero (5-1), Malissa Bisson (5-8), Becky Schaffner (5-15), Bev Klem (5-22), and Heather Norero (5-29). May 29th is our last day of the Animated Stories from the Bible curriculum. Youth Group: Kids 6th grade through college May is full of music for our young people! In May the youth group will be attending some EHS band concerts, and a community concert. Our youth group meets Tuesdays at the church at 6:00 for games and activities, Thursdays at Melissa's house at 4:30 for a movie, and Sundays after worship at the church for lunch and a Bible. College/Young Adults: Kids out of high school through 25 years old Our college kids and young adults meet Wednesdays for lunch at 12:15 at the GBC student center. The cost is just $2.00 for lunch and fellowship. Our college kids and young adults also meet at Charyn's house on Wednesdays at 5:30 for fun, fellowship, and food. Adult Bible : Our Tuesday morning Men's Bible group, Tuesday morning Women's Bible group, and Wednesday morning Women's Bible groups are still meeting and having fun! Our Wednesday morning group will be starting The War Room Bible based on the movie, in early June. Books are $8.50. Please contact Kathy Reyes know if you'd like one. Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University Charlyn Van Slyke is leading a FPU class each Tuesday night at 6:00 at the church. Please contact Charlyn for more information. Have a blessed month of May. Youth Group feeding the homeless on April 10, 2016 Youth Fundraiser Emily Fonder and Anna Thompson will be selling TRIENNIUM STOCK CERTIFICATES in the Fellowship Hall after church. Stock Certificates signify that the buyer is an investor in the girls' trip to Indiana in July to participate in the national Presbyterian youth gathering that happens every three years at Perdue University. Your Stock Certificate is also your ticket to the "Stockholder's Bruch" to be held the Saturday after the girls return. At the brunch the girls will present a "Stock Report" and presentation about their experience. The Youth at FPC participated in the 30 Hour Famine. This program is to raise money to feed children in third world countries through World Vision. Our youth raised over $600 by doing yard work and the purple potty program. Thank you to all who participated. First Presbyterian Church Congregation: Pack 52 Invites One and All To Our Cross Over Event Saturday, June 4, 2016 We want to Thank You for hosting our Cub Scout Pack. Lexi Freitag helped the Elko High School Girls Baseball team win the game against Dayton. Glen Guttry plans his retirement as Elko County Commissioner. Happy 90th Birthday in Heaven to Cathryn Kerth from her family. Mark Chilton was featured in The People Who Helped Make Elko What it is Today. The article included many accomplishments and historic endeavors he brought to Elko. NEW BIBLE STUDY The Wednesday morning Bible group will be starting a new bible study called "War Room Bible ", based on the movie. It is a 6 week study that will begin in early June. If you want to purchase a book please contact Kathy Reyes at 738-6894. Books are $8.50. The Group meets at 9:30 am every Wednesday in the church parlor. Everyone Welcome! A congratulatory floral arrangement was sent to Pastor Pat Mecham on behalf of Elko First Presbyterian Church congregation in recognition of his installation service April 10, 2016 at Spanish Springs Presbyterian Church. Sparks, Nevada. This was approved by Session and purchased through a donation. Lexi Baum was present when Big O Tires Co. presented a donation to the Elko Boy & Girls High School Basketball teams. Jennifer Kidwell helps open a consignment store to help raise money to build the Joshua Tree homeless shelter. Dr. A. Gus Cuthbertson served for 54 years as Elko s Veterinarian. He was an Elder at the First Presbyterian Church, and served on many boards in Elko. Elko senior Dustin Baum was featured during the baseball game against Sparks. Lindsey Litton, daughter of Bertha and Mike Lister was awarded the Rising Star Entrepreneurial Award from the National Association of Women Business Owners in San Antonio, Texas. Session Update April 19, 2016 Session meeting moderated by elected Elder John Daniel. Elder Tim Pike was elected by Session for the May meeting as per protocol set by Presbytery per Reverend Bob Kelley. Also, Jim Byars had been approved by Presbytery to serve communion on Maundy Thursday and communion for April. There will be Communion served the first Sunday in May. Review of finances was positive with recognition of adherence to budget as well as projected yearly budget. Reports from committees were received and building security reviewed with continued priority of securing the building by those who use the facility. Calendar events were cleared and usage approval referred to submitting person(s). All REQUESTS need to be submitted through office and then to Session prior to third Tuesday of monthly Session meeting. Interim Pastor Committee has submitted the forms necessary for Committee on Ministry to review for matching resumes. There will be a Congregational meeting May 22, 2016 following church to elect nominated Elders and Deacons. Session will meet again the third Tuesday in May.

T G I S Spring (Take Groceries In Sunday) Staying Healthy Let s continue to shower those in need with products to stay healthy. The Mission Committee is now collecting personal items to be distributed to local non-profit agencies. Suggested items are shampoo, soap, shaving cream, razors, toothpaste, toothbrushes, floss, deodorant, band aids, combs, brushes, tampons, hair ties, etc. Please place your donations in the box in front of the church office. Thank you for your previous contributions. PW will hold their annual Rummage Sale on Saturday, May 7 from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm. Help is needed in setting up before the rummage sale, and cleaning up after the rummage sale. Please bring in your donated items beginning Monday May 2. We will NOT be accepting any large appliances or TV s. Snack bar will be available. If you need items picked up, call the church office to make arrangements. Mother s Day was created by Anna Jarvis in 1908 and became an official U.S. holiday in 1914. Mother s Day falls on May 8, 2016.
