NCYC 2011 November 16-20 The National Catholic Youth Conference is an exciting, biennial three-day experience of prayer, community, and empowerment for Catholic teenagers and their adult NCYC began in 1983, following in the footsteps of its predecessor conference, the CYO biennial national convention. In its early days, NCYC was held regionally, one session for each coast. Combined attendance at the regional conferences was a few thousand. In 1991, the two conferences merged into one national event. In the mid-1990s, interest in NCYC began to increase. Today, NCYC draws 20,000+ youth and adults for three days of catechesis, prayer, service, and recreation. The next NCYC will be in Indianapolis, Indiana, Nov. 16-20, 2011. The theme is Called to Glory. More than 25,000 attendees are expected to participate. This is your chance to ignite the faith of teens in your parish with a uniquely inspiring event! Sponsored by the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry, the National Catholic Youth Conference is filled with inspirational speakers, musicians and prayer experiences. This three-day (plus travel) celebration is open to Catholic teenagers in grades 9-12, young adults age 19-25 and adult chaperones for youth. chaperones. The schedule includes keynote addresses, prayer, workshops, liturgy, opportunities to participate in reconciliation and exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, recreational activities, concerts, exhibits, and an interactive thematic park. The 2011 NCYC will take place November 17-19 (16-20 with travel) in Indianapolis with the theme Called to Glory. 2
The True Gifts of NCYC... NCYC is about parish and diocesan identity. We are ambassadors for our bishop and our diocese. The Diocese of Helena delegation to NCYC is a giant community of believers set on celebrating our Rocky Mountain Catholic identity. Come join in the fun! Details Details Details Participants and promoters are responsible for knowing the following information. Make note of registration deadlines, final costs and fundraising goals. Late registration will not be accepted under any circumstances. Cost $900 per person* Cost (based on 4-6 people per hotel room/suite) includes the following: Conference Registration Roundtrip Airfare Three nights accommodations at the Embassy Suites Ground transportation in Indianapolis. Few Meals IMPORTANT: Few meals are covered by the $900 fee. See important note below. Diocese of Helena will cover the following: T-Shirt expenses Expenses connected to Regional Liturgy *Additional taxes or fees may apply due to unforeseen circumstances. Additional Expenses? All participants should bring spending money for daily meals. Very few meals will be covered by the OYYAM. We will always make the effort to eat together, but will be separated by parish groups a great deal of the time. Bring at least $25 per day of spending money. 3
Registration & Fundraising A Two Part Process How can we participate? Youth and adults must register through a parish youth ministry coordinator or pastor online before May 1st, 2011. Youth participants must be in grades 9-12 at the time of the trip and one chaperone must be assigned per six people. Personal medical insurance is required for all participants. Your online registration requires a nonrefundable deposit of $200. This deposit is applied to the total cost ($900) of NCYC. Do not register until you have looked at your calendar and are certain that you can participate. Contact your local parish youth ministry leader to discuss group and fundraising possibilities. Don t forget, after registering online you will be sent a paper packet requiring notarization before you are officially registered for NCYC 2011. The sooner your group is registered the sooner you can begin financial preparations for NCYC. Do not delay informing youth and young adults in your faith community of NCYC. Remember, NCYC makes a wonderful event for parents to share in the faith formation of their youth! Get Fundraising! Parishes can have fundraisers. The Diocese of Helena will not organize any fundraisers for NCYC. It is the responsibility of the parish community to fundraise for participants. Getting Ready Heavy bags do not make the pilgrim... One bag and one carry on. Pack accordingly! Your carry on should be a backpack you can carry with you every day. You will be bringing home more than you came with! Be prepared. NCYC Suggested Packing List: Long-sleeved shirts and sweatshirts Ear plugs (they might be your best friend) Light rain coat (just in case) Short-sleeved shirts (no sleeveless shirts or tank tops) Camera Tennis shoes Underwear and socks Shower shoes (flip-flops) Toiletries (extra contact lenses, backup pair of glasses) Spending money (around $25 per day) NOTE: There are lots of items available to purchase, so use your discretion!
