Page Three A TASTE OF LEBANON FESTIVAL SEPTEMBER 5TH - 6TH - 7TH, 2014 PLANS & GOAL Plans for our Festival - A Taste of Lebanon - are well underway! Committees have begun to work together to bring their ideas and experience to help make this year s festival unique and successful! Our ultimate goal this year is to provide an environment that will bring our community together, to reach out to non-lebanese people, and to introduce our culture to our neighbors throughout the community, through our cuisine and entertainment, with hospitality and fun for all ages! SPONSORSHIP Of critical importance, your help is needed NOW to promote A Taste of Lebanon by getting businesses or individuals to become a SPONSOR. There are a variety of sponsorships that allow for donations both large and small. In addition to helping us fund our endeavor, sponsorship provides businesses and individuals in the community an opportunity to become better known, while enjoying the benefits offered with each sponsorship level. We would like to cover our festival expenses which we expect to be around $35,000, and we will keep you updated on how we are doing toward our goal. Please do your part in supporting our Church by reaching out to people you know and do your business with: your bank, dentist, doctor, insurance agents, hair salons, stores, etc. and those who provide services for you. This is a great opportunity for our Young Adults to become involved...your help is needed! Please see Sponsorship Packets in the Lobby of the Church or in the Church Office. VOLUNTEERS There are many opportunities for everyone to become involved by VOLUNTEERING before and during the Festival. Please contact George Helou or Abdou Deban, our Festival Co-Chairmen, about helping out. It is a great time to work together for the betterment of our Church while having a great time! You can also call the Church Office and leave your name and phone number and a committee member will get back with you to discuss your volunteering opportunity! CHARITABLE DONATION One of the reasons we feel our Festivals have been so successful in recent years is our Paying It Forward! This year St. Sharbel will once again be donating a portion of the Festival proceeds to a most worthy charitable institution, St. Jude Children s Research Hospital. PRAYER AND ACTION Please keep the success of the Festival, the Committee, all the volunteers and their efforts, and our entire St. Sharbel Maronite Church Community in your prayers. Thank you and God bless you!

Grant this, we pray, through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. PASTOR S CORNER Dear Parishioners and Friends of Saint Sharbel, Grace, peace, and love to you from your home of St. Sharbel Church. My hope is that you are enjoying the beautiful weather that we are having after the long winter! I hope that you will take many opportunities this summer to enjoy your life and your time with your loved ones. Wherever you go and whatever you do, may the Lord God fortify your steps and shelter you from harm and danger. Life is short, handle it with care and take the opportunities that God sends to you and fill them with joy and happy times spent well with family and friends. Although you might be traveling far and near this summer, please keep a strong connection with your family as well as with your home of St. Sharbel. Wherever you are and as you travel, seek the Catholic Church to go and celebrate the Holy Eucharist every Sunday. Also, your continued support of your home of St. Sharbel is always needed and appreciated. If you are planning to attend the Maronite Convention in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, please make your arrangements soon for this special event that gathers together Maronites throughout the whole United States coming together to pray, socialize, and learn more about their faith. I take this opportunity to congratulate all the graduates of our parish and ask the Lord to bless their future and grant them success. We are very proud of you! Please call upon me if I can be of any help to you at any time. With prayers and best wishes, Devotedly yours, Chorbishop Alfred Badawi DRESS APPROPRIATELY FOR CHURCH APPROPRIATE CLOTHING FOR SUMMER TIME With the warm weather of summer, I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that we should always be concerned with the way we dress at Church. It is easy to become relaxed about the way we dress for Church during the summer, but we must always remember WHOSE presence it is that we are coming into when we attend Mass. Even though we come to Mass every week, our appearance should make a statement about the importance of what we are doing. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is NOT a show, it is NOT the beach, it is NOT the backyard, it is NOT a fashion show, and it is NOT a spectacle. Our dress should not be distracting to others or such that it draws attention to one s self instead of to what is taking place on the Altar. As a Catholic we must always dress for Church in a way that gives glory to God. After all, we are not actually dressing FOR Church, we are dressing FOR God. We must always dress according to what He wills for us, and it is always God's will that we dress with dignity and modesty! PLEASE SAVE THE DATE The National Apostolate of Maronites will be holding the 51st Annual Maronite Convention in Pittsburgh, PA, from Wednesday, July, 2-Sunday, July 6, 2014. There will be wonderful workshops, talks, and exhibits to enjoy as well as great entertainment. Brochures are available in the back of the Church. I hope many of you will be able to attend.
