C. The View Of Many About Faithfulness. 1. I Proclaim That I Am Faithful. 2. I Became A Christian. 3. I Worship One Hour A Week On Sunday Morning or Evening. 4. I Don t Attend Worship But I m Faithful! 5. One who gives very little of himself/herself to support the cause of Christ! D. Let s Turn To Scripture And Let God Give Us A Definition Of Faithfulness. I. (Slide #3) Having Your Heart REALLY In The Relationship! A. That Is What God EXPECTS Of Christians! 1. Mk. 12:30 And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.' This is the first commandment. 2. I Jn. 2:5 But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. B. You Truly Love God From Your Heart; He Is Of UTMOST Importance To You! C. David s Charges To Solomon Give Insight: 1. David s charge to Solomon: I Chr. 28:9 As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a loyal heart and with a willing mind; for the LORD searches all hearts and understands all the intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will cast you off forever. 2. I Ki. 8:61 Let your heart therefore be loyal to the LORD our God, to walk in His statutes and keep His commandments, as at this day. D. Hezekiah Exhibited A Faithful Heart. Hezekiah II Ki 20:3 Remember now, O LORD, I pray, how I have walked before You in truth and with a loyal heart, and have done what was good in Your sight. And Hezekiah wept bitterly. E. God s Charges To Slaves Gives Insight: 2

1. Eph. 6:6 not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, 2. Col. 3:22-24 Bondservants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh, not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but in sincerity of heart, fearing God. 23 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ. 3. A Christian s service to God must be done daily; it must be rooted in a genuine heart! F. God Describes The Heart Of The Unfaithful. 1. Ps. 78:37 For their heart was not steadfast with Him, Nor were they faithful in His covenant. 2. It is not steadfast; it is not loyal; it does not keep the covenant it has made! G. Solomon s Decisions In Life Exhibit Unfaithfulness! 1. I Ki. 11:1-11 But King Solomon loved many foreign women, as well as the daughter of Pharaoh: women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians, and Hittites-- 2 from the nations of whom the LORD had said to the children of Israel, You shall not intermarry with them, nor they with you. Surely they will turn away your hearts after their gods. Solomon clung to these in love. 3 And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines; and his wives turned away his heart. 4 For it was so, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned his heart after other gods; and his heart was not loyal to the LORD his God, as was the heart of his father David. 5 For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites. 6 Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and did not fully follow the LORD, as did his father David. 7 Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, on the hill that is east of Jerusalem, and for Molech the abomination of the people of Ammon. 8 And he did likewise for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and sacrificed to their gods. 9 So the LORD became angry with Solomon, because his heart had turned from the LORD God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice, 10 and had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods; but he did not keep what the LORD had commanded. 11 Therefore the LORD said to Solomon, Because you have done this, and have not kept My covenant and My statutes, which I have commanded you, I will surely tear the kingdom away from you and give it to your servant. 2. Solomon s heart left God; he became a spiritual adulterer! 3

H. Others Also Exhibited Unfaithful Hearts. 1. Amaziah. 2 Chr.25:2 And he did what was right in the sight of the LORD, but not with a loyal heart. 2. Abijam. I Ki. 15:3 And he walked in all the sins of his father, which he had done before him; his heart was not loyal to the LORD his God, as was the heart of his father David. II. (Slide #4) Being Submissive! A. God Gives Insight About Faithfulness When He Discusses The Children Of Elders. 1. Tit. 1:6 if a man is blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of dissipation or insubordination. 2. Likewise Christians who are faithful must not be accused of: a. Dissipation -- indulgence, sensuality b. Insubordination -- rebellious, lawless, not willing to submit B. As Eli Was Chastised For Not Controlling His Son As Priests, God Says He Will Raise Up A Faithful Priest. 1. I Sa. 2:35 Then I will raise up for Myself a faithful priest who shall do according to what is in My heart and in My mind. I will build him a sure house, and he shall walk before My anointed forever. 2. This was a promise about Samuel -- one who was submissive and truly obedient! III. (Slide #5) Refusing To LIVE IN Sin! A. God DOES NOT DEMAND COMPLETE PERFECTION In Christian s Lives. B. He Tells Us That We Will Sin, But We Can Be Forgiven. 1. I Jn. 1:8,9 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 2. This makes Christianity feel achievable and doable! 4

C. However, NO ONE IS FAITHFUL TO GOD Who Continues To Live In Sin! 1. I Jn. 3:6 ESV No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him. 2. I Jn. 3:9 ESV No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God s seed abides in him, and he cannot keep on sinning because he has been born of God. 3. I Jn. 5:18 ESV We know that everyone who has been born of God does not keep on sinning, but he who was born of God protects him, and the evil one does not touch him. D. In Fact, One Who Loves God Is TOTALLY REPULSED By The Idea Of Living In Sin! IV. (Slide #6) Keeping Your Vows And Your Promises! A. God Expects People To Make Promises And To Keep Them! B. That Should Not Surprise Us; He Is Faithful; That Means He Keeps His Word! 1. Dt. 7:9 Therefore know that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments; 2. I Jn. 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 3. His whole nature revolves around truth! a. Rev. 19:11 Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. b. Rev. 21:5 Then He who sat on the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And He said to me, Write, for these words are true and faithful. c. Rev. 22:6 Then he said to me, These words are faithful and true. And the Lord God of the holy prophets sent His angel to show His servants the things which must shortly take place. 5

C. So When We Confess I Believe That Jesus Is The Christ, The Son Of The Living God! God Expects Us To Be Loyal To That Profession! 1. Heb. 4:14 let us hold fast our confession. 2. Heb. 10:23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. D. We Know That Faithfulness Involves Telling The Truth! 1. Pr. 14:5 A faithful witness does not lie, But a false witness will utter lies. 2. And God expects that from us! V. (Slide #7) Being Wise Stewards! A. A Steward Of God s Blessings! I Cor. 4:2 Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful. B. Stewards Of God s Precious Word! 1. Handle the Word of God with deep respect. 2. Determine to be loyal to It! 3. Preachers, Elders, and Bible Class Teachers -- Preach the Word! II Tim. 4:2 4. II Tim. 2:15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. C. I Pet. 4:10 NIV Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms. D. Stewards Of Our Talents. 1. Massage them. 2. Grow them. 3. Use them! 4. Expand them! 6

VI. (Slide #8) Being Active In Communication. A. EAGER To Hear From God -- Anxious To Open His Word And To Know His Will And To Live It! B. Eager To Communicate With Him In Prayer! VII. (Slide #9) Worshiping As He Commanded! A. Worship Is A Command That God Has Given His People! B. Worship When He Authorized -- On The First Day Of The Week. C. Find NO Excuses; Make NOTHING A Higher Priority -- Faithfulness Requires Worship! VIII. (Slide #10) Telling Others About Him! A. Faithful Christians Love To Talk About Their Father, About Their Savior, And About The Word the Holy Spirit Revealed! B. Loyal To The Truth -- And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. II Tim. 2:2 IX. (Slide #11) Caring About And Serving Others. A. That Is What Jesus Did As A Faithful Son, Messiah, And Savior. B. Caring About Others Is Obeying God! 1. In the depiction of the Judgment Scene, He said to the faithful, the sheep on His right, Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me. Mt. 25:41 2. In the depiction of the Judgment Scene, He said to the unfaithful, the goats on His left, Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me. Mt. 25:45 7

X. (Slide #12) Laboring For The Lord s Cause! A. No Sacrifice Is Too Much! B. Eph. 2:10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. C. I Cor. 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. XI. (Slide #13) Staying Faithful! A. Rev. 2:10 Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life. B. Faithfulness Is A Decision; It Is A Commitment; It Is A Life; It Is Lifelong!!! C. You Can Choose To Be Faithful! D. The Church Is God s Spiritual Family To Support You. E. You Can Choose To Be Faithful If People Around You Are NOT Faithful! 1. Look at Samuel -- He was around Eli and Eli s sons. 2. They did not influence him to be unfaithful; he was still faithful.
