3 A Word from your Chapter Directors: We hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year. The Sullivan household certainly did. Although we enjoy the holidays, and the hustle and bustle that the holidays bring, we re glad that things have settled down. We are also looking very forward to 2014. A few upcoming events include the Chapter P Fish Fry on January 25 th and Spring Fling is fast approaching. We also look forward to the Missouri District Rally in Branson, Missouri. We hope you plan on attending both Spring Fling and the Missouri District Rally and have made your reservations. Last month was the Chapter Z Christmas party where we announced our new Couple of the Year and Individual of the Year. We would like to again congratulate Paul & Cheryl Engelman as our New Couple of the Year and Congratulate Jan Bacon as our New Individual of the Year. We know they will be proud to represent Chapter Z. We also announced the High and Low Mileage winners for 2013. Once again, High Mileage went to Rich Payne with 17,354 miles and Low Mileage went to Ken Klouzek with 3,304 miles. We also drew our 50/50 with several winners. Congratulations to all that won. We feel that we are winners just being a part of Chapter Z. Several attended W-2 s Christmas party which was held at Sonny & Carla Heidebur s house. Once again it was a very nice Christmas party and FUN was had by all. W-2 played Dirty Santa where everyone walked away with very nice presents. Chapter Z s Toys-for-Tots drive was held on December 15th. It sure was cold that day but, thanks to KZ and Carla Zigaitis impromptu Wal- Mart fire pit purchase, we kept toasty warm. Cheryl Engelman also let some of her friends know we would be collecting toys and asked them to bring a toy and hot chocolate. In addition to toys, $52.05 was donated to the Chapter to then forward to the Toys-for-Tots drive. The 5 cents come from a little boy who was more than proud to be able to make that donation which was greatly appreciated. Once again, Santa Claus joined us and was more than happy to greet the gift givers and hand out peppermints. We would like to give a BIG THANK YOU to Cheryl and Len Thoma for coordinating the Toys-for -Tots Drive!!! Thanks to all for another very successful Chapter Z toy drive and we are already preparing for 2014 s Toys-for-Tots Drive. 4 THE EDUCATIONAL JOURNEY Happy New Year everyone. I hope this will be a year of plenty for each of us. I hope there will be many safe enjoyable rides, great rallies, new bikes and trikes, riding gear and chrome. Sara and I are looking forward to the Rider Education Classes that will be coming up very soon. GWRRA Level Program For anyone wanting to participate in the levels program and want the patches for your vest, you need to get with Sara or myself and tell us so we can put in the paperwork. There is a charge for the patches, the black and gold will cost more than the red and white. One last word, check your bike to make sure everything is as should be. By that I mean trickle charger is plugged in and working and coolant protection is what it should be. Remember, if we get a warm day and you decide to ride, CHECK YOUR TIRE PRESSURE!! Do not forget, you still need to drink water. Remember, you make the final decision! 5 Our Motto... Share the Road! Our Mission... To Facilitate A Reduction In Motorcycle Crashes With Other Motor Vehicles. Happy New Year to all of our Z family. We hope everyone enjoyed the holidays. Make time this winter to attend some of the great training sessions provided to us from GWRRA. Even if you have done them already, it s a good refresher to do them again. If you are a cold weather rider, as always, do your T-CLOCK. Pay close attention to your tire pressure as it can change overnight in these low temperatures. Please check out the weather along your route before starting out. We all know how Missouri weather can change quickly and be different in other areas. As always, watch out for the other drivers. They aren t expecting to see motorcycles this time of year. See you at the next meeting. As always, our friends, ride smart and be safe Vernon and Pat Watts Chapter Z Motorcycle Awareness Division Chapter Z s Christmas Party 2014
6 Neither snow nor rain nor gloom of night. This can also be said about Goldwingers and their winter activities! In Missouri the Chapter Christmas parties and charity events were well attended despite the heavy snows, freezing rain and unseasonably cold temperatures. As District Director I had the privilege to attend some of these gatherings and all I can say is wow this GWRRA family sure knows how to party! All of the parties I attended, plus the ones I heard about, were well supplied with two very important things. Food and Fun! The Chapter charity events are something to behold. While one Chapter might be standing on a frozen Wal-Mart parking lot collecting Toys-for-Tots, another might be bending over tables in a fire house packing boxes of food to ensure families have a great Christmas dinner. Even though it was well below freezing outside, the smiles of these members warmed your heart. of the Chapters have not yet honored their selectees, so I will wait until next month to name all of the Couples and Individuals. Missouri is blessed with many outstanding Couples and Individuals and it can be a daunting task to select these people when so many deserve this honor. Something new for Missouri this year is a COY/ IOY day long-event that all selected couples and individuals will have an opportunity to attend. By participating in this fun filled event attendees will learn how to get the most out their experience. With all the planned activities and events being held throughout Missouri, 2014 will be a great year for GWRRA members.. Particularly those who live and ride Gold Wings in the fun Show Me State! In addition to the Christmas festivities, many Chapters named their Couple and Individual of the Year. As of this articles deadline, a few It s the Journey not the Destination! Bruce S.
