Meditative Gospel Verses Whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst. (John 6:35) I am the living bread come down from heaven, says the Lord; whoever eats this bread will live forever. (John 6:51) All who eat my flesh and drink my blood live in me, and I in them, says the Lord. (John 6:56) Anima Christi Soul of Christ, sanctify me. Body of Christ, save me. Blood of Christ, inebriate me. Water from the side of Christ, wash me. Passion of Christ, strengthen me. O Good Jesus, hear me. Within Thy wounds hide me. Suffer me not to be separated from thee. From the malignant enemy defend me. In the hour of my death call me. And bid me come unto Thee, That with all Thy Saints, I may praise Thee for ever and ever. Amen. Introduction Eucharist is our most precious gift. Jesus gave to us the gift of himself under the form of bread and wine that we might remember and join in his sacrifice. By joining in the sacrifice of Christ we become what we eat, his Body and Blood for the life of the world. The celebration of the Eucharist is the preeminent form of worship and participation in the very life of God, for we are doing what Christ commanded us to do to take and eat and to take and drink in memory of him. The Church has also given us another form of worship: the worship of the Eucharist outside of Mass. The Church invites us to pray in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament either reserved in the tabernacle (adoration) or exposed in the monstrance/ciborium (exposition). This time of prayer is a time when we once again open our hearts to hear God s voice and to gaze upon Christ present in the reserved or exposed Sacrament. We pray not only for ourselves, but for the needs of the world, the needs of the poor, the needs of the Church, and the needs of our local communities. During this Year of Faith and during this time of quiet prayer, let us contemplate the love of Christ who is the center of our lives and carries us beyond the trials of daily life into a world that holds the promise of hope in and through Christ Jesus. Like Pope Francis, let us open our lives to the people of this world, hearts filled with the love and compassion of Christ. As we look upon the Lord in adoration, may we always remember the gift of his sacrifice and unite ourselves to him by becoming his very presence in the world. 10 3
