The First Congregational Church of Greenwich declares itself to be open and affirming; open to all for participation, membership, leadership and employment, and affirming of all who wish to join us as children of God. We continue to give thanks for God s guidance in our journey of faith. W elcome to this Service of Worship at The First Congregational Church of Greenwich on this springtime Sunday morning. With the world coming to life all around us, we hope that your spirit is inspired and renewed by your time in worship today. Please join us after worship for our Fellowship Hour in the Auditorium. PREPARING FOR WORSHIP Please silence all cell phones and other electronic devices. *All who are able please stand. PRELUDE Dr. Craig Scott Symons, organ Mass for the Convents Francois Couperin (1668-1733) Plein Jeu Fugue sur la Trompette CALL TO COMMUNITY Please sign and pass the red book. Rev. Richard S. DenUyl, Jr. PRAISING GOD CALL TO WORSHIP Leader: Deep inside us all young and old there is a place of faith. People: A place of trust and hope and love, without which there can be no peace. Leader: Jesus said, Let the children come to me, People: For to such belongs the kingdom of heaven. Leader: Hear, then, O people of God; approach his hour as children of the Almighty. People: With innocence of heart and unlimited hope, Leader: With a love that is easy and quick. People: With a trust that makes you vulnerable.

CHORAL INTRUIT *HYMN Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound (CC*) New Century (black) Hymnal 547 SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Caroline Oakley, Charles Huard, and Adair Jane Richards, children of Virginia Livesay Richards and Greg Richards BAPTISM PRAYER (in unison) Gracious God, giver of life, you have called us by name, and pledge to each of us your faithful love. We pray today for your blessing on Caroline, Charles and Adair that you will watch over them and guide them as they grow in faith. Remind us of the promises of our own baptism, and renew our trust in you. Make us strong to obey your will and to serve you with joy, through the power of your Holy Spirit. All of this we pray as Jesus taught us saying, LORD'S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen. BAPTISMAL RESPONSE Child of Blessing, Child of Promise New Century (black) Hymnal 325 Child of blessing, child of promise, baptized with the Spirit s sign; With this water God has sealed you unto love and grace divine. (During the Baptismal Response, the children and teachers will go to their Rotation Workshops: Kindergarten/1st Grade go to Red Door in the Preschool; 2 nd Grade go to Room 104; 3rd Grade and older go to the

Daniels Center all on the lower level of the building. Your child can just go with the crowd and we will be sure they find their room.) FIRST LESSON I HEARING GOD'S WORD John 10:11-18 Pat Mendelsohn am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. The hired hand, who is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. The hired hand runs away because a hired hand does not care for the sheep. I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father. And I lay down my life for the sheep. I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd. For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life in order to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it up again. I have received this command from my Father. From New Revised Standard Version ANTHEM The Chancel Choir Kyrie Eleison (from Mass in C) Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) Hanna Golodinskii, soprano Linnea Conley, mezzo soprano Drew Seigla, tenor Tom Woodman, bass SECOND LESSON T Psalm 23 Stuart McCalley he Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters; he restores my soul. He leads me in right paths for his name s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil; for you are with me;

your rod and your staff they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord my whole life long. From New Revised Standard Version *HYMN The King of Love My Shepherd Is Pilgrim (red) Hymnal 79 SERMON The Good Shepherd Rev. Richard S. DenUyl, Jr. RESPONDING TO GOD PASTORAL PRAYER CALL TO OFFERING Rev. Avery C. Manchester Elaine Teeters, Senior Deacon OFFERTORY ANTHEM The Chancel Choir Softly and Tenderly Gilbert Martin (b. 1941) Drew Seigla, tenor (Text with altered words can be found at New Century (black) Hymnal 449) *DOXOLOGY Pilgrim (red) Hymnal 515 Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise him, all creatures here below; Praise him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen. *PRAYER OF DEDICATION GOING FORTH TO SERVE GOD STEPHEN MINISTRY SUNDAY Linnea Stenberg and Rev. Avery Manchester
