The Creation by God - Definition Creation maybe defined as the work of God in bringing all persons and things comprising the universe into existence (Barackman 74). Since God as Creator is the explanation for the existence of the world and for human existence, it is the activity of creation that establishes our deepest and most essential relation to God: as Creator and thus Lord. The doctrine of God as Creator, then, is perhaps the most basic conception of God that we know (MeKim 281). Everything that is not God draws its existence from God. Various Theories 1. Evolution: Basic to the idea of evolution is change. a) atheistic: the change has a naturalistic explanation within a closed (uniformitarian) system (Ryrie 195-96; Erickson 478-79). b) theistic: the change has the appearance, indeed it is accomplished by natural processes ; however these processes are (more or less) guided by God (Ryrie 196-97; Erickson 480-8 1; Feinberg 543-45; 587-92). (Pun 388-92; Barackman 78-79; Feinberg 546-48). 2. Progressive Creation: This is a version of what has been called the day-age theory. This view suggests that the days of Genesis 1 and 2 are poetic references to long periods of time and that God s creative process took several steps. Man, however, was created directly and completely by God (Erickson 4 82-84). 3. Gap Theory: This theory suggests that a very long period of time intervened between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2; hence, the gap. 4. Literary Framework Theory: This view suggests that the structure of Genesis 1 and 2 is not a chronological account of the sequence of historical events when God created our universe. Rather, it is a literary device the writer uses to tell a story that conveys great theological truth. In other words, the days of creation happen to be the mold in which the author chose to tell the story of God s creation and sovereign rule of the universe (Feinberg 603-04). 5. The Literal Six days of twenty-four hours view, also known as fiat creation. Quite simply, this view takes the days as twenty-four hour days and the events of Genesis 1 and 2 as historical even, if indeed, miraculous! Biblical Teaching 1. Ex Nihilo Creation: Creation out of nothing 2. Direct Immediate Creation: Creation de novo; creation without using pre-existent materials. God s Providence and Preservation Definition God s providence and preservation are directly related to God s creation. Providence concerns God s care for and direction of His creation to the ends for which He created it in the first place. Preservation concerns God s maintenance and sustenance of His creation. Often, providence is understood as God s governance or oversight of history and the actions of people, while preservation is understood as God s protection, conservation, care, and provision of His creation as, for instance, when He is said to provide food for His creation (Ps. 104:10-23, 27; Matt. 6:26). In sum: Providence has traditionally been understood as preservation, concurrence, and government (Berkof 166ff). Biblical Teaching 1. Providence: God controls the destiny of nations (Dan. 4:25; Isa. 10:5-6; 2 Chron. 10:12-16) and of individuals (Isa. 44:28; Jer. 1:5; Prov. 16:9; 20:24; 21:1). God overrules misfortune (Gen. 39:1-2; 21-23; 45:7) and brings the plans of men to naught (Luke 12:20; Dan. 4:19-37). God controls all natural forces (Ps. 104:4, 14; Job 38:8-13), and He controls the angels as well (Ps. 103:20-21; Job 1:12; Heb. 1:14). 2. Preservation: God provides for His inanimate creation (Isa. 40:26), for His creatures (Ps. 104:1 O-28), for all people (Acts 14:17; Ps. 65:9-10), and for the elect (2 Chron. 16:9; Ps. 91). How Important Is CREATION To Science? Creation is the undeniable conclusion drawn from the wealth of evidence left by God in his actions from the beginning and throughout history. The theory of evolution stands in contradiction to the evidence listed below and other facts too numerous to list here. The theory of evolution requires that we reject the truth of God s word and bury the facts which honest science affirms. Science is lost without Creation! Spontaneous generation has never been observed. All observations have shown that life only comes from life. This observation is so consistent that it is called the Law of Biogenesis. The theory of evolution conflicts with this law by claiming that life came from non-living matter. Mutations are the only proposed mechanism by which new genetic material becomes available for evolution. Almost all (perhaps all) observable mutations are harmful; many are lethal. No known mutation has ever produced a form of life having both greater complexity and greater viability. If languages evolved, the earliest languages should be the simplest. On the contrary, language studies reveal that the more ancient the language, the more complex it is with respect to syntax, cases, genders, tenses and verb forms. Tj~e best evidence indicates that languages devolve. Many of the world s fossils were buried before they could decay. This is strong evidence -thai sedimentary material was deposited rapidly not over millions of years. DNA can only be produced with the help of certain enzymes. But these enzymes can only be produced at the direction of DNA. Since each requires the other, a satisfactory explanation for the origin of one must simultaneously explain the origin of the other. No evidence exists for any such naturalistic explanation. Detailed studies of various animals reveal certain physical equipment and capabilities that cannot be duplicated by the world s best designers using the most sophisticated technologies. A few examples include: the sonar systems of the dolphins, porpoises and whales; the radar system of the bat; the precise navigational systems of many birds and fish; and the self-repair capabilities of practically all forms of life. Each component of these complex systems could not have evolved without placing a selective disadvantage on the animal. All evidence points to a Designer. The planets should rotate on their axes in the same direction, but Venus and Uranus rotate backwards. All moons of the various planets should revolve in the same direction, but at least six revolve backwards. Furthermore, Jupiter. Saturn, Uranus and Neptune have moons going in both directions. If the entire universe is an isolated system, then according to the Second Law of Thermodynamics, the energy in the universe that is available for useful work has always been Rapids III Class - Week 4 Lesson on Creation Page 2 of 5

decreasing. But as one goes back further in time, the amount of energy available for useful work would eventually exceed the total energy in the universe that, according to the First Law of Thermodynamics. remains constant. This is an impossible condition. It therefore implies that the universe had a beginning. A further consequence of the Second Law is that when the universe began. il was in a more organized state than it is today, not in a highly disorganized state as assumed by evolutionists and proponents of the Big Bang Theory. Geological formations are almost always dated by their fossil content, especially by certain index fossils of extinct animals. The age of the fossil is derived from the assumed evolutionary sequence, but the.evolutiopary sequence is based on the fossil record. This reasoning is circular. Direct measurements of the earth s magnetic field over the past 140 years show a steady and repid decline in its strength. This pattern is consistent with the theoretical view that there is an~ electrical current inside the earth which produces the magnetic field. If this view is correct, then just 25,000 years ago the electrical current would have been so vast that the earth s structure would not have survived the heat produced. The moon experiences moonquakes, has a magnetic field, and is still warm, all of which indicate that the moon is young. Since 1836, over one hundred different observers at the Royal Greenwich Observatory and the U.S. Naval Observatory have made direct visual measurements that indicate that the sun s diameter is shrinking at the rate of about.1 % each century or about 5 feet per hour. Using the most conservative data, one must conclude that had the sun existed a million years ago, it would have been so large that it would have heated the earth so much that life could not have survived. Many of earth s previously unexplained features can be explained only by the Flood of Noah: Glaciers and the ice age, continental drift, coal formations, mountains, extinction of the dinosaurs, ocean trenches, magnetic patterns of the ocean floor, geological strata, continental shelves and slopes, metamorphic rock. -. Every mountain range on the earth contains fossils of sea life. In the face of all creation s argument, men still have worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator... the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse (Romans 1:25, 20). Creation is an inseparable part of the Bible (as this partial listing shows). The theory of evolution stands in contradiction to all these Scriptures (and others, such as those related to the Noahic Flood). How Important Is CREATION To The Bible? Moreover, Jesus Christ, the Redeemer and Savior of the world, died in vain if man is an evolved animal; and His resurrection would be a vicious hoax if the Bible were not true. Friend, Creation is all-important to the Bible! In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth (Genesis 1:1). So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them (Genesis 1:27). Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? (Job 38:4) When I consider the heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; what is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honor (Psalms 8:5-6). The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth His handywork (Psalms 19:1). By the word of the Lord were the heavens made (Psalms 65:6). Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God (Psalms 90:2). My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth (Psalms 139:15). The Lord by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath He established the heavens (Proverbs 3:19). As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all (Ecclesiastes 11:5). And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground (Genesis 2:7). And out of the ground the Lord God formed every.beast of the field, and every fowl of the air... And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made He a woman (Genesis 2:19-22). Thus saith the Lord, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the Lord that maketh all things; and that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself (Isaiah 44:24)... He bath made the earth by His power, He bath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the hea vensby his discretion (Jeremiah 10:12). For, lo, he that formeth the mountains, and createth the wind, and declareth unto man what is his thought... the Lord, the God of Hosts, is His name (Amos 4:13). Have ye not read, that He which made them at the beginning made them male and feth~ale...?.(matthew 19:4). All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made (John 1:3). He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not (John 1:10). Lord, thou art God, which has made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is (Acts 4:24). for in six days the Lord made the heaven and earth (Exodus 3 1:17). Thou, even thou, art Lord alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein (Nehemiah 9:6). For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead (Romans1:20). Oman, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus? (Romans 9:20). For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that, are in earth, visible and invisible (Colossians 1:16)... and have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge affer the image of him that created him (Colossians 3:10). Through faith we understand that the worlds wore framed by the word of God, so that things which are seec were not made of things which do appear (Hebrews 11:3). And swear by him that liveth forever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein (Revelations 10:6). INCOMIPATABILITY 0F THE EVOLUTIONARY TIME TABLE WITH OBSERVABLE FACTS 1) Direct verifiable chronology of history (written records), dates back to only between 2500 and 3500 B.C., the dating of anything earlier than 3500 B.C. must therefore, be done by indirect evidence (Dr. Henry Morris, Scientific Creationism, p.131). 2) Rocks and dating cannot be done scientifically by fossil content, because most fossils are the remains of organisms that still exist in the modern world. Sponges for example, can be found as fossils in rocks of any age ( Scientific Creationism, p. 134). 3) Geologists use index fossils to date a particular age of rocks and to establish a geologic time chart, by making two basic assumptions. The first assumption is that evolution is a fact, while they themselves know it has no basis in fact. The second assumption is that evolution being true, happened in the same direction and time all over the world. H. D. Hedburg president of the Geological Society of America said, Fossils have furnished, through their record of the evolution of life on this planet, an amazingly effective key to the relative positioning of strata. Through circular reasoning the strata fonn the basis for the geologic lime chart. In other words, they deceptively use evolution, which is merely theory and conjecture at best, to create a dating system which they hi turn use to prove evolution. 4) The process of Radiometric Dating is flawed by assumptions which cannot be tested. Three of the most blatant assumptions are: a) The assumption that the world was always a closed system. b) The assumption that the world began with all uranium(parent component) and no lead(by product). c)the assumption that the process rate was always the same as it is today. 5) Most of the worlds fossils were buried before they could decay. This is strong evidence that sedimentary material was deposited rapidly - not over millions of years (Walter Brown, Scientific Case for Creation). 6) According to the Second Law of Thermodynamics, the energy in the universe is always decreasing toward the state of entropy. As you go back further in time, the total amount of unused energy in the universe would eventually exceed the total amount of used and unused energy in the universe. Yet, this violates the First Law of Thermodynamics, which states that the total amount of energy in the universe remains constant. 7) Scientific measurements of the earth s magnetic field over the last 140 years show a steady decline in it s strength. If this is a continuous event as observable science indicates it to be, then just 25,000 years ago the earth would not have survived the effects of the heat produced. 8) Since 1836, observers at the Royal Greenwich Observatory, and the U.S. Naval Observatory, have made scientific measurements that show the sun s diameter shrinking at a constant rate of about. 1% each century, or about 5 feet per hour. Therefore, had the sun existed only one million years ago, it would have been so large that no life could have survived the intense heat on earth. 9) While according to evolution there should be innumerable fossils of mutant forms between every known species, not one has ever been found (Dr. Duane Gish).
