PURPOSE To help each child set a good example for others by following the example of Jesus.

Let s play a little game. We are going to say the words to the following song, Do as I m Doing As we say these words, I want you to do whatever I do, OK?

Let s try that again, only this time let s sing the song at the same time you do the actions I do.

When you did the same actions I did, you were following my example. When we follow someone s example, we do what they do. Jesus said, Follow me (see Matthew 4:19).

One of the reasons Jesus came to earth was to be an example for us and show us how to live. Jesus was perfect.

That means he did everything the right way. The way he lived when he was on the earth is the way we should try to live.

Listen as we read from the Bible. In John 13:15 it reads: 15 For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.

These are Jesus words. We want to be like Jesus and follow his example. Let s sing about it.

I'M TRYING TO BE LIKE JESUS 1. I'm trying to be like Jesus; I'm following in his ways. I'm trying to love as he did, in all that I do and say. At times I am tempted to make a wrong choice, But I try to listen as the still small voice whispers, Chorus "Love one another as Jesus loves you. Try to show kindness in all that you do. Be gentle and loving in deed and in thought, For these are the things Jesus taught."

Let s listen to the story of how Jesus prayed for the Nephite children.

The Savior s prayer was so marvelous that it could not be written. It filled the Nephites with joy.

The Savior told the people to kneel down. Then he knelt and prayed to Heavenly Father.

Jesus Christ told the Nephites to bring their little children to him. The children sat on the ground near Jesus.

After his prayer Jesus said the Nephites would be blessed because of their faith.

He felt so much love and happiness that he wept.

Then he took the children and blessed each one. He prayed to Heavenly Father for them and wept again.

Jesus told the Nephites to look at their children.

As the people watched, angels came down from heaven and encircled the children. The children and the angels were surrounded by fire.

Jesus showed by his example that we should pray for others.

Just as you follow the example of Jesus, other people watch you and follow your examples.

There are more important ways to be an example than by how we move our bodies. You can be good examples by doing good things, such as telling the truth, obeying their mothers and fathers, sharing your toys, being reverent at church, and helping your families.
