Questions About Baptism Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. Ephesians 5:17 ESV

If baptism is essential... Why isn't baptism mentioned every place the gospel is?

(17) "And now, brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did also your rulers. (18) But what God foretold by the mouth of all the prophets, that his Christ would suffer, he thus fulfilled. (19) Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, Acts 3:17-21 ESV

(20) that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus, (21) whom heaven must receive until the time for restoring all the things about which God spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets long ago. Acts 3:17-21 ESV

(1) Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 5:1 ESV

(1) And as they were speaking to the people, the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees came upon them, (2) greatly annoyed because they were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection from the dead. Acts 4:1-4 ESV

(3) And they arrested them and put them in custody until the next day, for it was already evening. (4) But many of those who had heard the word believed, and the number of the men came to about five thousand. Acts 4:1-4 ESV

(41) So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls. Acts 2:41 ESV

If baptism is essential... Why isn't baptism mentioned every place the gospel is? Why is only lack of belief condemned in Mark 16.16?

(16) Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. Mark 16:16 ESV

(16) Whoever 1 believes and is 2 baptized will be saved, but whoever does not 1 believe will be condemned. Mark 16:16 ESV

If baptism is essential... Why isn't baptism mentioned every place the gospel is? Why is only lack of belief condemned in Mark 16.16? Why did Paul say he was not sent to baptize?

(17) For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with words of eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power. 1 Corinthians 1:17 ESV

(10) I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment. (11) For it has been reported to me by Chloe's people that there is quarreling among you, my brothers. 1 Corinthians 1:10-17 ESV

(12) What I mean is that each one of you says, "I follow Paul," or "I follow Apollos," or "I follow Cephas," or "I follow Christ." (13) Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul? (14) I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius, (15) so that no one may say that you were baptized in my name. 1 Corinthians 1:10-17 ESV

(16) (I did baptize also the household of Stephanas. Beyond that, I do not know whether I baptized anyone else.) (17) For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with words of eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power. 1 Corinthians 1:10-17 ESV

If baptism is essential... Why isn't baptism mentioned every place the gospel is? Why is only lack of belief condemned in Mark 16.16? Why did Paul say he was not sent to baptize? What about Cornelius and his household?

(44) While Peter was still saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the word. (45) And the believers from among the circumcised who had come with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out even on the Gentiles. (46) For they were hearing them speaking in tongues and extolling God. Then Peter declared, Acts 10:44-48 ESV

(47) "Can anyone withhold water for baptizing these people, who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?" (48) And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to remain for some days. Acts 10:44-48 ESV

(45) Many of the Jews therefore, who had come with Mary and had seen what he did, believed in him, (46) but some of them went to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done. (47) So the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered the council and said, "What are we to do? For this man performs many signs. John 11:45-53 ESV

(48) If we let him go on like this, everyone will believe in him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation." (49) But one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said to them, "You know nothing at all. (50) Nor do you understand that it is better for you that one man should die for the people, not that the whole nation should perish." John 11:45-53 ESV

(51) He did not say this of his own accord, but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation, (52) and not for the nation only, but also to gather into one the children of God who are scattered abroad. (53) So from that day on they made plans to put him to death. John 11:45-53 ESV

(1) If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. (2) And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 1 Corinthians 13:1-2 ESV

If baptism is essential... Why isn't baptism mentioned every place the gospel is? Why is only lack of belief condemned in Mark 16.16? Why did Paul say he was not sent to baptize? What about Cornelius and his household? What about those who were saved apart from baptism?

(3) Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? Romans 6:3 ESV

If baptism is essential... Why isn't baptism mentioned every place the gospel is? Why is only lack of belief condemned in Mark 16.16? Why did Paul say he was not sent to baptize? What about Cornelius and his household? What about those who were saved apart from baptism? Why would God require a ritual for salvation?

(4) Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness. (5) You know that he appeared in order to take away sins, and in him there is no sin. (6) No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him. 1 John 3:4-8 ESV

(7) Little children, let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous. (8) Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. 1 John 3:4-8 ESV

(27) Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty concerning the body and blood of the Lord. (28) Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. (29) For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself. 1 Corinthians 11:27-29 ESV

(21) Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 1 Peter 3:21 ESV
