If you are visiting today, we are delighted that you are here and we hope that you will find a spiritual home among us. Please join us for coffee downstairs after the Liturgy. COMMUNION REQUEST Please state your name as you approach the Chalice for communion. Please note: Since we understand "Communion" to mean that we have all things in common, sharing an identical Faith, the reception of the Holy Eucharist is RESERVED only to those who are baptized and chrismated members of the Orthodox Church and have prepared themselves by prayer, a recent confession, fasted from all food/ drink from midnight and arrived on time for Liturgy. ST GREGORY PALAMAS SERVICE THIS WEEK: There will be a parastas today in memory of Penelope Maria Mammoliti given by her parents, Ann & John. HAPPY BIRTHDAY: Mnohaja i Blahaja L'ita Let us all wish Anna Marie Gajdos, Maryjane Glosik, Monika Kanova Kormanik, Ryan Lamhaouar, Mary Munich, Stephanie Salony and George Sikorjak many happy and blessed years! PLEASE CONTINUE PRAYERS FOR: Mary Zizik, Mike Kormanik, Justine Gidicsin, Mary Fackovec, Peter Tymus, Helen Karpiak, Deacon Michael Kozar, Lorraine Vira, Mary Strenk, Steven Gaydos, Ann Gaydos, Mary Lichvarik, Seman Kovalcik, Olga Petrick, Deacon Joseph Hotrovich, Joyce Rusinak, Victoria Vislocky, Marge Hildebrant and Neil Ingenito. Please contact Kim Busel to add and/or remove names: k.busel@att.net CLEANUP TODAY: Enjoy a cup of coffee and a snack and then we will get started with Chore Day. We have a long list of tasks to be done and would love your help. There will be groups in the Main Hall, kitchen, Altar area and Choir Room. Everyone welcome and appreciated! Stay as long as you can. We especially need men to work in the Choir Room putting larger items away in storage and organizing the room. Thanks to all! Last week, we celebrated the Triumph of Orthodoxy over the Iconoclasts. Today is the Commemoration of the second Triumph of Orthodoxy in the 14 th Century. St Gregory Palamas was a monk of Mount Athos and Archbishop of Thessaloniki. He was also the right defender and preeminent theologian of a type of prayer called hesychia, a practice central to the prayer life of Orthodox monks. This silent prayer seeks a union with God by ceasing to register the senses, thus transfering the prayer from the mind to the heart - to pray without ceasing. St. Gregory was accused of heresy by Barlaam of Seminara, a scholar and theologian from Italy. Six Councils were convened to over ten years with the Council of Blachernae in 1351, upholding St. Gregory's teachings.

The icon has not only been weeping, but it has been gushing fragrant oil for almost two years. This is not from only one area of the icon but from its entirety. During this period of the Great Fast, we have the opportunity to visit and pray before this miracle-working icon; to venerate before Her image and see how our Christian life can be changed and renewed in all of its fullness as we struggle to live in prayer for the Kingdom of God is within. Very Rev. Mark Leasure is the pastor at St.George's and has welcomed our group with enthusiasm. We are looking into the possibility of renting a van or small bus with a driver to provide transportation based on interest. Potentially, we could make pick-up stops at the church, and common areas in Brooklyn and New Jersey. It is very important to contact Stephanie Salony as soon as possible either Sunday after church or via e-mail: stephanie.salony@comcast.net. We are working out a cost for the van and other arrangements but need to know that you want to go! Miracles occur every day to those who have believing eyes. To be anointed with oil from this icon shows us that the Theotokos, the one who bore the Lord of all, reveals the reality of the Heavenly world and its penetration into our fallen world if we will turn our hearts in love and thanksgiving to the Living God. In addition, it shows us how Christ and His Saints, most especially the Holy Virgin, love us, live with us and guide us if we will simply let them. It is as if Heaven is really here all the time. If our heart is blind we will not see. Make this Lent special for yourself. Consider taking this trip and see for yourself, won t you? Seeing is believing! ST NICHOLAS LENTEN MEMORIAL WALL: During the Lenten season, we would like to again remember our St. Nicholas family and friends who have departed with a Memorial picture wall. If you have a photo that you would like for us to include, please give to Debbie Derevjanik any Sunday. EVENT OVERSEERS NEEDED: With our successful outreach to the community, the Main Hall is being used with great frequency during the week and on the weekends. We are looking to see if any parishioners are willing to help be an event overseer. Days and times for these activities vary. A stipend will be paid to those who sign up for an event. Please see Iveta Canjura for details, ivetahc@hotmail.com. LENTEN FOOD DRIVE: Mike and Evelyn Kormanik passed on the great idea to St. Nicholas Church last year that was a big success. It is called the 40 Cans of Lent Food Drive. While many Orthodox and other Christians choose to adopt Lent as a time of fasting and abstinence, for some of our food-insecure neighbors, going without food is not a choice. The goal is to set aside one can (or other non-perishable food item) per day during Lent and bring your food donation with your basket on Pascha. 40 Cans for Lent is an opportunity to take a small sacrifice and turn it into a big difference in the lives of others. CALLING ALL MEN!! We are looking for men to volunteer for a big Saturday cleanup of the Church on Saturday, April 12 th (Lazarus Saturday) - to help do some heavy cleaning in preparation for Holy Week. These are items that require scaffolding, ladders and some high reaching places, like the chandeliers, the tile walls. If you are able to come down that day, please see Dawn Krzyzanowski. There will be a group of others making paska, others preparing for Palm Sunday while the children will be dyeing eggs.

PLEASE SIGN UP ON THE BULLETIN BOARD DOWNSTAIRS IF YOU ARE PLANNING ON ATTENDING THE LENTEN COMMUNION BREAKFAST. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO GET A COUNT OF THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE. THANK YOU!! March 23 rd will be an important day during Lent. Please try to attend. CONFESSIONS Four priests will be available to hear confessions on March 23 rd both in English and Ponašomu. You will need to be patient as there will be many people attending service that day and need to go to confession. The priests will be traveling from their own churches so many confessions will not start until after the Lenten Mission Service at 1:00 pm LENTEN COMMUNION BREAKFAST- The Altar Society will host its annual Lenten Communion Breakfast. +Met. Nicholas wanted us to break bread together, encourage each other and to make sure that each of us was planning to go to confession in order to partake of the Sacrament of Communion (thus the name) during Holy Week. He started a beautiful St. Nicholas Church tradition that has continued for many years. The breakfast will be held after Liturgy. LENTEN MISSION SERVICE The New York Deanery s Mission Service will begin about 1:00 pm. STRICT FAST LUNCHEON After Confessions, there will be a strict fast Lenten luncheon for clergy and visitors in the Main Hall. Annual Lenten Communion Breakfast Adults, 17 and over: $15 Children: Free Sunday, March 23rd Annual Lenten Mission Service: 1 pm Priests will be available before & after the Lenten Mission Service for confessions March 21 st and April 11th Friday Lenten Services at 7:30 pm April 5 th Saturday Potential trip to Taylor, PA to see the miraculous weeping icon of the Blessed Mother, known as the Mother of God - Kardiotissa or The Tender Heart.
