message A FROM OUR CEO Thank you for helping the hungry, hurting, and homeless! I hope you are as moved as I am by the stories included in this Annual Report. Jonathan, Elijah, Jennifer, Casheena and her son each of them have been greatly impacted by your compassion and generosity. The fact is, The Scott Mission can only meet the needs of families and individuals who are hungry and hurting through the prayers and partnership of friends like you. Thanks to your gifts, 2017 was a year of great hope for many people. Yet our world is broken, and the need continues to grow. Your continued support is crucial, so that we can better serve all who come through our doors and walk with them to better paths. Thank you again for your heart of compassion for those among us who are suffering and frightened. Every meal and bag of groceries you provide, every bed, and every trip to summer camp is an investment in help and hope that will pay huge dividends throughout our community. May every blessing be yours for standing with The Scott Mission as we share the mercy and love of Christ with people who are in need. Peter Duraisami Chief Executive Officer The Scott Mission And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19 NIV 03

I was lost... now I have hope. Jonathan

MEN S Ministry When Jonathan came through the doors of The Scott Mission, he had lost all hope. The death of his parents, a failing marriage, and other pressures had mounted to the point that he was convinced life was not worth living. Thanks to support from caring friends and donors, we gave Jonathan a hot meal and a safe place to sleep. We prayed for him, and included him in a special retreat held at our Collingwood property. There, Jonathan trusted God and The Scott Mission staff, finally opening up about his pain. YOUR Gifts IN ACTION Lives were saved and changed in 2017 through our Men s Ministry. Your support helped with Over 4,500 visits for clothing I came to The Scott Mission for a bed, but I got so much more, Jonathan says. A year ago, I was lost. But thanks to The Scott Mission, and the people here, now I have hope. I am grateful for all they ve done for me, for all of us. I also want to thank the donors for what they re doing, because it is needed. People come here to get help, to get on with their lives. The staff here help them do that. Thanks to your compassion and generosity, Jonathan found life-changing help and hope at The Scott Mission and opened his heart to Christ. He is one example of how your partnership is providing meals, clothing, spiritual healing, counselling, and more for men in need. 95,000 hot meals Over 21,000 personal hygiene items laundry and showers Over 7,000 visits for 05

CAMP AND YOUTH Ministry Elijah glows when he describes the many summers he has attended Scott Mission Camp. But one of his most memorable experiences was the summer he didn t get to go. That s because he was little more than a toddler. Still, he was inconsolable when his older brother got to go and he had to stay behind. Once of age, Elijah immersed himself in The Scott Mission s after-school programs and everything Scott Mission Camp has to offer each summer canoeing, biking, swimming, and hiking. He s also made lasting friendships and credits the camp and counsellors with his spiritual growth. Camp has changed my life, Elijah says. I ve made genuine friends. Camp is where I really devoted my life to God. He put me in a leadership role with the other kids and showed me that I could potentially work in their lives. Elijah is now seizing every opportunity in front of him. He is working regularly and is determined to pursue his post-secondary education as soon as he can. He has completed our Foundations program, honing his leadership skills, and will apply to serve as a counsellor at Scott Mission Camp this summer. Deeply thankful for the caring donors who make Scott Mission Camp happen each year, Elijah says, Thank you for making camp a possibility. What you re doing is good and I honestly appreciate it. The Scott Mission has been a great thing for me. Thank you YOUR Gifts IN ACTION Your support in 2017 enriched the lives of children and teens through our Camp and Youth Ministry for making camp a possibility. Elijah 611 children and youth attended summer camp 29 teens participated in our Foundations leadership program 150 children and teens attended after-school programs 12 families attended our family camp Sent youth on weekly small group and mentoring outings

CHILDCARE Ministry Casheena s son, Jaden, is the light of her life and she wants the very best for him. But like many families in the Toronto area, rent and the high cost of living make every day a tough task. Casheena knew she had to return to work soon after his birth to make ends meet, but with their already strained budget, childcare presented a challenge. I can honestly say that my son is truly loved here YOUR Gifts IN ACTION Through your kind support, our O Connor Family Centre ministry continues to care for children and families in our community... 300+ families in need receive regular help at our O Connor location Casheena So she was thrilled the day she walked into The Scott Mission s O Connor Family Centre and found exactly the kind of daycare she had hoped for it was clean, the children had plenty of space and stimulation, and the caregivers were kind and loving. I can honestly say that my son is truly loved here, because every day when we leave he stops and stares at the staff picture board and says, Wait, Mommy. Then, we don t leave until he names every single person. The fact that he acknowledges everyone is because they ve blessed him in a certain way. Through your support of The Scott Mission and the O Connor Family Centre, you re helping families in need and enriching their lives in so many ways! Casheena says, Thank you to the donors for being so giving, and so caring to people in need. 07

help and hope They gave me for the future. Jennifer

WOMEN AND FAMILY Ministries After her husband passed away, Jennifer s whole world collapsed. First, she was stricken with serious health issues. Then, as her money ran out, she was faced with hunger and homelessness. I was really down, Jennifer says. I couldn t afford food or a place of my own. It was really bad. Thankfully, someone recommended she visit The Scott Mission and that was a day Jennifer will never forget. She needed groceries and received them including fresh produce. She needed clothes and received them including a warm winter coat. She needed encouragement and received prayer, hugs, and the acceptance that allowed her to rebuild her broken spirit and life. I knew that I had finally found a safe place in my life, Jennifer says. They gave me help and hope for the future and that was the start of my healing process. I m very grateful. Thank you for your support of The Scott Mission that is providing food and clothing, spiritual support, special help at Christmas, retreats, counselling, education, and more to women and families in Toronto.
