A CHRISTMAS MESSAGE FROM JEAN HUBY (Church Warden) AND THE PCC The Angels sang, and thus sang we, To God on high all glory be, Let him on earth his peace bestow, And unto men his favour show. - The Song of Angels (G Wither)... when the kindness and generosity of God our Saviour dawned upon the world, then, not for any good deeds of our own, but because he was merciful, he saved us through the water of rebirth and the renewing power of the Holy Spirit. For he sent down the Spirit upon us plentifully through Jesus Christ our saviour so that, by his grace, we might in hope become heirs to eternal life. - The New English Bible, Titus 3 (4-7). O sweet Child of Bethlehem, grant that we may share with all our hearts in this profound mystery of Christmas. Put into the hearts of men this peace for which they sometimes seek so desperately and which you alone can give them. Help them to know one another better, and to live as brothers, children of the same father. Reveal to them also your beauty, holiness and purity. Awaken in their hearts love, gratitude for your infinite goodness. Join them all together in your love. And give us your heavenly peace.... Pope John XX111. 1881 1963 (The Oxford Book of Prayer) The Spirit of Christmas greetings to one and all... (The Benefice)

Services are held on the second and fourth Sunday of the month, unless otherwise stated, starting at 11.30am. Everyone is very welcome. Please note we are holding a Christingle Service on Sunday 18th December at 6.30pm. Christmas Day service will be a Holy Communion Service at 10.00am on 25 th December. PARISH NOTICE BOARD Women s Institute is on Thursday 8 December and Thursday 12 January at 7.30pm in the Old Boys School Craft Sunday at the Old Boys School will be on Sunday 18 December and Sunday 15 January, from 10.00 am to 3.00 pm. Women s Fellowship Christmas luncheon is on Friday 9 December, 12.00 for 12.30pm, at Mrs B s Lakeside Kitchen, Cawood Caravan Park. Please contact Dorothy Bowers if you wish to attend, telephone number 268387. The January meeting will be at number 16 Water Row on 16 January, at 2.00 pm. Excerpt from Report from Cawood Parish Council The Parish Council received 3 applications from villagers to be part of the Bridge Committee. The 3 volunteers along with Councillors Chris Luker, Jeremy Noott, David Robinson and Ron Wharmby will hold their first meeting shortly. NYCC is still in negotiation with engineers and contractors regarding the strengthening and maintenance work required on Cawood Bridge. It is intended that another public meeting to update villagers on progress and proposals will be held shortly. The Parish Council has received a letter from Utopia Bus Service they will have to register the Sunday timetable with the Traffic Commissioner and there is a statutory 56-day period from when an application is accepted before the timetable can be introduced. The same 56 day wait period would apply to the withdrawal of the Sunday timetable. To make it more awkward transport authorities, such as City of York Council, have set dates for the introduction of changes to bus services. Failure to match up with these dates incurs charges to cover the costs of up-dating roadside publicity and electronic information systems. The proposed Sunday bus service will not now be introduced until after the works to Cawood Bridge. Mr George Wright, planning consultant, two representatives from Orion Home and Messrs D and J Gibson were present to discuss the proposed housing development on Ryther Road, Cawood.

We remember with love Elizabeth Molyneux who died peacefully in York District Hospital in November. Her funeral service will be held in Cawood Church on Monday 28 th November 2016.
